princess is telling her that they are not selling any single occupancy cabins on this cruise.  any thoughts?

I sail single, just tried that cruise, E405 is available and I would have been able to book it.  I wouldn't call Princess, do an online booking or contact a travel agent (which is what I always do).

I usually sail solo and have always been able to book for just myself usually it's double so I don't know why your friend could not book.

There have been some sailings that have been exempt from solo bookings. A friend ran into this for a cruise last December. The TA escalated it and they would not allow it.

when you try to pay the deposit it wont accept it. my  CVP tried and i tried by phoning princess but was told this ship and this sailing wont take solo cruisers.  this doesnt even sound legal to me.

It is legal.  Unfortunately "solo" is not a federally protected status when it comes to discrimination.  I also sail solo and am tired of the shenanigans but we have little recourse as families and couples who are willing to pay greatly out number us.

Wow!  Didn't realize this and it sounds so wrong.  I've been sailing alone, most of my cruises, since 1982.

This is mind boggling to me and single traveling is something I've been talking about forever.  Years ago I had a few letters published in travel magazines, didn't help the overall picture just gave me a chance to vent!

I've had the same thing happen to me more than once - they either limit the number of cabins they will sell as solo or have none at all - all about the revenue they claim 2 actual people in a cabin have higher spend onboard, excursions etc.  But on more than one cruise from anywhere from a couple of weeks to over a month later they were suddenly selling solo 200% as usual and was able to book a cabin.  Keep checking if it's an itinerary you want to do it worked for me. This was booking several months out as well.  I work with a TA it doesn't matter your booking method as to availability of solo cabins.  Fortunately doesn't happen a lot. I don't agree with their reasoning many of us solo travellers have way more spend.

I have always booked a single room (8 times on Princess) and have never had this problem. I do book very early. I have never heard of this happening. It is very unfortunate. We just booked 8 single rooms for a cruise in April and had 6 this past April. I guess we have been very lucky and are very thankful we have never had this problem.

I am on that sailing and there are many people on our roll call who are solo travelers.  Is she wanting to not pay the single supplement (if they ever do that).

It is simply that they will not let a single book at any percentage. Not that she/he doesn't want to pay.

The way around it is to book a friend and then have them be a no show.

This is exactly what I would do.

I’ve done that. The drawback is that the solo cruiser does not get 2x cruise credits.

Cruise credits don't mean anything anymore IMO. I could care less about them.
