Rare mr walker Posted July 22 #26 Share Posted July 22 As we slowly make our way towards Princess Elite & the opportunity to partake in the mini-bar, still happy with the Royal Caribbean C&A perk of 4 drinks per day from any bar on the ship - but no takeaways with them of course 🙂

We are a handful of days away from that perk with Royal, so the value flips the other way for us. We would already be Diamond, except for the imbalance with Princess, where we can book a cruise with a Plus package (15 drinks per day, coffee, water, internet) and still get a cheaper fare on an equivalent itinerary.
Rare Sparky74 Posted July 22 #29 Share Posted July 22 We are teetotallers so the RCI Diamond drinks perk is of limited benefit to us but it’s still nice to have. I’ve never been a big soft drink consumer and now that I'm sugar-free, even more so. DW enjoys the occasional soft drink. Last time we were on RCI we discovered that you CAN use the vouchers at Starbucks in spite of the T&Cs on the website. DW doesn’t drink coffee but is quite partial to a chocolate frappe! This thread (below) suggests you can get complimentary Starbucks drinks at venues that aren’t standalone Starbucks branded cafes. 🤷♂️ It’s worth a try. YMMV

We didn’t even use our mini bar setup on our last Princess cruise, but will next time! We certainly are not Loyal to Royal atm unfortunately. Hi Cheryle yes Royal is getting out of my price range even with the loyalty benefits of D+ and the itineraries are not appealing to me with p&o and Carnival merging it might be different and I still get some benefits with Carnival

Unfortunately for Royal it is the ships and the itineraries. Even Princess have stopped giving out extra OBC. They all want you to take a package, which doesn’t suit us. We have booked Cunard and a few Princess cruises. We don’t want to travel too far overseas to embark. I haven’t done Carnival, but still get those Casino offers that I spoke to you about sometime ago about.

Agree with the comments that all cruise prices have increased, but so has everything else in life. Also agree that RC's itineraries are restricted in where they sail here & hence an increase in our Princess cruises. Of course, the onboard charges on RC are US$ which is problematical these days, but we don't tend to spend much these days, as our drinks are basically free, and we have a USD kitty on a travel card from when our $ was much better. As the sayings go, "we are a long time dead", and "it's only money & you can't spend it when your dead", so we will continue to cruise while we can. Good news for us is that we are retired, and started drawing down on super in January & the balance is higher today than then - hope it continues 🙂
