On board spending money or cards.

Hi.

We are looking to cruise on the QE next year.

Does anyone know if you can use the on board spending cards to buy satellite Internet please?

Apart from Spa treatments, this is probably the biggest spend for us, but a necessary spend while we're away.

Equally, does anyone know if there's a list or link of things you can and can't use this card on an equivalent.

Thanks.

You can use onboard credit to buy an internet package when onboard, but you can sometimes get a deal on the internet packages if booking in advance through MyCunard. I was able to get a 20% discount on Valentines Day. If you book through MyCunard, you cannot use onboard credit, it has to be paid for at time of booking.

Hi.

Do you know what else the on board credit is useful for?

I don't think it can be used for casino/bingo games,  if it's the same principle as P&0.

Can it pay for extras at shows or dining restaurants on the ship?

I think it can be used for most things except the casino and medical expenses. Bars, restaurants, Wi-Fi, tours, shops are all allowed.

You may use on board spending money for most purchases made on board. Here is the list of areas were you cannot use on board spending money as listed in the Money Matters section of My Cunard.

> Medical charges (including services, prescriptions and supplies)

> Cash back

> Purchase of foreign currency

> International visas

> Charity donations

> On board gaming (including the Casino)

> As full or part payment against a future voyage.

You can use it for dining when onboard - but not if you make reservations on MyCunard before setting sail (same as the internet, you need to pay for that at time of booking). You can also use it toward the daily "hotel charge". To be honest, @bluemarble and @exlondoner have covered everything off rather well!

Thanks very much! My husband was getting very nervous regarding the daily "hotel charge" if it would quickly tally up on a 21 day cruise.

Great news and thanks !!

We've a cruise next year where we're planning on letting the onboard credit cover the "hotel charge" too! I would keep an eye out on things like internet, spa packages and some excursions around Black Friday and Valentines Day, you may well get some good deals on them! Even if you have to pay at the time of booking, the discounts can be helpful.

There is a standard 10% discount on shore excursions, drinks packages and dining reservations when booked ahead of time. There is not a standard discount on the wifi packages to purchase them ahead of time, although as mentioned, there was a Valentine's Day promotion earlier this year which did offer discounts on wifi packages. Sorry, I do not know if they offer any standard discounts for booking spa items ahead of time. The prices I'm seeing in My Cunard for spa services don't look like they are discounted, but I can't say for sure.

You may want to try to balance the discounts for booking some items prior to your voyage versus waiting to purchase those items on board so you can use your on board spending money.

From the UK there is a 5% discount

Good to know.

They do offer discounts on wifi packages for voyages of 16 nights or more, but I'm not aware of any discounts for purchasing wifi ahead of time here in the US. The prices for wifi packages on a 26-night voyage we have booked represent a 5% discount off the regular prices for a voyage of less than 16 nights. But that price should be the same whether booked in advance or on board for a voyage of that length.

So, just to confirm, on a voyage of less than 16 nights, are you being quoted prices of $17.10 per day (instead of $18) for the Essential Plan and $22.80 per day (instead of $24) for the Premium Plan in the UK version of My Cunard?

Sorry, I didn't see this reply before I posted my latest reply. I'd just like to confirm the length of your voyage to see if that 5% discount you are seeing might be based on the length of your voyage rather than a standard 5% discount being applied to shorter voyages in the UK as well.

I'm not seeing that. I already purchased in Valentine's Day sale. But if I select for my wife it's $252, which is 14 nights at $18.

Perhaps bluemarble has hit on something with voyage duration?
