musicgal Posted August 24 #1 Share Posted August 24 Does anyone recall when Christmas decorations start to be put up? Is it right after Thanksgiving or does it happen mid-December? We are on the Joy after Thanksgiving thru the first 2 weeks of December, and we have never been on a decorated ship before.

Rare www3traveler Posted August 24 #3 Share Posted August 24 Christmas decorations usually start going up shortly after midnight Thanksgiving night. Takes a while to get it all done. Gingerbread Villages go up usually in early December depends on the Executive Chef and his Team.
ChiefMateJRK Posted August 24 #4 Share Posted August 24 We were on the Pearl last Nov 28 and we had decorations. I believe that some were still showing up the first few days of the cruise.

First week in December. Never Thanksgiving night. You will get some Christmas decorations during your cruise.

First cruise after Thanksgiving, but you have to look long and hard to find them. There aren’t many.

My experience on the Pearl last November was opposite. They were all over the place, and very nicely done. I LIKED that!
Rare www3traveler Posted August 25 #9 Share Posted August 25 (edited) I have been on The Getaway for Thanksgiving-- Christmas decorations were up in the lobby the next morning. This year with Thanksgiving being late (November 28th), I would not be surprised to see decorations beginning to up late Thanksgiving evening. I have been fortunate to watch the construction of the Gingerbread Villages a couple of times. I have wondered how many hours of planning and preparing the various pieces it takes to construct the villages. Once they begin to construct, just that process takes several hours. Kuddos to everyone involved in the planning, making the pieces and the actual construct. AMAZING. I would not be surprised if the planning for this year's villages is already taking place. sailingships Posted August 25 #10 Share Posted August 25 Last year on the Gem they had them up the day after Thanksgiving. Some of the Christmas Trees were up that morning (The crew must have worked all night) and some a few days later. Christmas carols were played for the piped music..
