room switch

My husband and I both have offers for a cruise. I am wanting to book two different rooms under each of our names and take two different people with us. Does anyone know once on board if I can go to customer service and possibly get a different key card or switch a name on a room? Wondering about the Carnival Celebration? Thanks have never done this before so just curious?

You can't officially switch rooms.

However, you can get extra key cards for each room, and Carnival doesn't care who actually sleeps where.

The key cards can only be used to open the room door.  They can't be used for charging. Also, each person's card can only open the door to which the passenger is officially assigned.  So, your friend who is assigned to your cabin, but sleeping elsewhere, will have access to your cabin.

We did exactly this last year.

You may not officially switch, because you and your spouse are pretending to be in separate cabins to claim two different promotions.  You will need to maintain this fiction throughout the cruise.  Some might call your plan fraudulent.  You will need to switch room keys with your confederates and remain on the ship’s rolls as being in different cabins.

Thank you. I thought I had heard of people doing this. It doesn't sound like it is worth the trouble. Thanks again.

I don’t think it is as complicated as the explainations make it sound. Some of the statements leave a lot to interpretation, which can vary between individuals.

For the two who wish to move, the card you are issued is used for everything except cabin entry. You all go to guest services at some point and tell them you agree to give two people an extra card to be used only for cabin entry to the cabin they want to use.

Done.

We‘ve done this with our adult kids. It’s no big deal. Go to guest services. Must have people from both rooms. Ask for an extra room key for each room. The two people who switch will have their original sail and sign card and an additional card that only opens the cabin door.

We do this often - it is as easy as the Guest Services line is short (depending on when you go). We don't do it for casino offer reasons, but when we book 2 cabins for our family of 5, we book my wife and I each in separate cabins with a subset of our minor children (and we actually do sleep there). But once onboard, we get a second key for everyone at GS so all of us can enter either cabin (often one balcony and one interior). Not a big deal, and we've done it often on multiple ships. Pro tip: Take little key rings or lanyards to keep your two cards together.

DH and I just got off the Elation today. We both had great offers, so I booked 1 room in my name and 1 in his, side by side with a connecting door. My BFF was booked with me, and my 70 y/o mom was booked with DH. We both went to guest services and just ask for an extra room key for both rooms. No questions ask, and because the line was so long, there was a Guest Services worker going down the line asking what you were needing assistance with, to expedite, what I guess was "simple" requests, because he took both our cards, and came back with a copy of each and off we went. I also told our amazing room steward that my DH was going to be in my room, and my BFF with my mom. We also ask him to unlock the door between our rooms at that time too. This was my BFF's 1st cruise, and she blew up the casino, got her free drinks on day 2, was gifted a $60 bottle of wine at dinner and got a pretty good casino bounce back offer the last day. Good luck and happy cruising!! 🙂

We have done this 3 times now so another couple traveling with us can get a good rate.  We switch rooms once on board at guest services and have never lost our offers or free play. It was easy peasy.  We are doing it again when we sail in March 2025.

We did this last month. All went along to guest services and requested a spare key for both rooms. Excluding the shortish wait in the guest services line, obtaining the spare cards took less than 5 mins. No questions asked. I did tell our room steward we had switched as a courtesy.
