They WILL confiscate your smuggled booze......

FYI everyone you don't have to put your boose in water bottles to smuggle it on the ship. I smuggled numberous litres of Barcardi Limon in my checked bags. All I do is wrap them up in towels and pack them in between my clothes to protect them. Once in my room my cabin steward has never ratted me out.

I would imagine that people are going so overboard with this booze smuggling business that the cruise line is paying a little more attention after all you are cutting into they're profits. Just go with the flow. You'll live longer.

The cruise lines are making millions every week on boose. Yes they could make more if people didn't smuggle boose on board, but it's not like they have set up a boose task force to combat the smuggling. If they find it they will confiscate it, but they are not going out of their way to search for it.

I didn't think they would confiscate "water bottles" in your carry on. So it's best to pack them in your checked luggage? Has anyone got away with brining 4 bottles of wine in their carry on? Is it okay to lock your luggage before you give it to the porters?

Just back from my second Legend Cruise...

Carried on six of these (same bottles, different "toiletries" dispersed throughout our group) again this year...

No problems whatsoever...

That is an awesome idea!!!! I will hit target today. What did you have in that bottle that was blue???

I'm buying the plastic Captain Morgan pints and stashing them across 4 bags.

I spend PLENTY at the bar/casino...I just like to have a drink while we relax on our balcony and considering CARNIVAL already got 3000 grand for the PH Suite, I'm not shedding any tears.

My wife likes that Carlo Rossi rhine wine...it is sold in the big jug...does Carnival allow that in the carry-ons?

I figure we'll pack a bunch of cokes/diet cokes and the wine in a collapsible cooler and bring that with us, and keep the booze in the checked bags.

Note to self...

Carry wine on board, check smuggled booze in baggage ( not that I am bringing a lot, I am a cheep date )

I am curious if I bring wine on board for the formal dinners, will there be a problem sharing it with our tablemates if we have those? I plan to bring a bottle for each formal night, and one for the dinner at David's supper club.

You can bring wine on board for all dinners (I have heard a couple rumors that the 2 bottle limit is no more). If you would like to share with your table mates, just please ask the Maitre'D to escort you to my table - we'll save you a seat. (Don't let my handle fool you - I like wine too!) Seriously - no problem sharing. Very nice gesture.

Not been on a Carnival ship, so was wondering what it would cost to buy a bottle of, say, rum from the Duty Free shop onboard as opposed to buying a bottle at home and smuggling it on.

I just wondered if you were actually saving money, or is it jut the thrill of getting one up on the cruise Line? ;)

It is pretty cheap, but they won't let you have it until the last day. They used to deliver it to your cabin on the last night, but someone recently posted that they had to go to the library to pick up theirs.

The bottle in the picture is from the Container Store...very inexpensive. They're "leak-proof" (had no accidents in two years) and they sell little labels that you can put on them. We had "mouthwash"..."astringent"...etc. That specific bottle had vodka in it with a teeeeeeeeeeeeny drop of food coloring.

I know that you're allowed to bring wine and that they charge a "corkage fee" to bring your wine into the dining room. Do they allow you to bring your own corkscrew and have the wine in your cabin without paying the fee? Would they confiscate a corkscrew if I brought one? (Do they consider it a weapon?)

OIC! That's pretty sneaky of Carnival!

I'm pretty sure on my last cruise (on a British Ship) we could buy Duty Free from the onboard shop and if you wanted to take it to your cabin and drink you simply paid an extra UK£5.00, a sort of corkage.

You'd obviously still need to buy mixers off the ship, or carry on large bottles from onshore.

We brought a corkscrew this year - no problems. Last year...we brought the wine, but had no corkscrew. We made friends with our drink waiter and got a nifty Carnival one...free. :D

Good to hear that Carnival is finally getting serious about this.

I'm curious to know why you care. Do your shipmates that drink "smuggled" liquor act differently than those that drink Carnival's liquor? How can you tell? Hmmm...maybe Carnival puts something in their liquor...maybe we should investigate further.

I thought they just run carry on through x ray scanner. Do they open it up & actually inspect water bottles? If they let you bring wine on, can it be in water bottles or other containers? I don't see how they can confiscate a bottle containing water. It says nothing anywhere about not bringing water aboard.

They can charge a corkage fee, but don't always. In fact, we've never been charged.

I would suggest that the corkscrew go into your checked baggage. Maybe one of those two pronged types that simply push the cork into the bottle would be OK in your carry-on. (I've had one of those types that worked great, the others always push it in, and usually don't stay in the house for more than a day - straight to the circular file)

I think the rule is unopened OK seal broken not OK.

It was the broken seal that gave the OP away. If policy is strictly adhered to, you are not supposed to be able to pass through security with an open container of any sort; including water. However, like cotton, I too have seen it go either way. For our Legend cruise we flew into Ft. Lauderdale on the same day as the cruise, so the transfer took us directly to the ship. I still had about 1/3 left in a water bottle from the flight and was asked to throw it away. On the other hand, for our Valor cruise last February I again had an open water bottle that I brought from the hotel, but this time I walked right through without question. Probably a good thing that they didn’t look closer, because I also had 4 bottles of Propel, all with broken seals and all filled with C-Mom’s Blue Hawaiian.

**NOTE TO SELF**

Broken seals, liquor, and beer to CHECKED LUGGAGE. Got it. :D
