yellownovawife Posted June 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2004 Are we on Vancouver time for the whole trip, or do we switch to Alaska time at some point? If they say we arrive at a port at 7am, is that 7am ship's time or Alaska time? I am booking excursions on my own and I do not want to mess up! We will have a tough time getting our kids onto Vancouver time and I am hoping that will be it.
gazingm42 Posted June 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2004 There is one hr difference. Vancouver is on Pacific and Alaska inside passage is on Alaska time. It switch time at the SE tail of Alaska at the Canada line.
yellownovawife Posted June 24, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 24, 2004 So does that mean that the ship changes to that Alaska time?
gazingm42 Posted June 24, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2004 I would assume so....But I have not been on it yet. We go next week :)
Rare Coral Posted June 24, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2004 On my Princess Alaskan cruises, we do switch time zones. The local time in port is the same as the ship's time.
Rare geoherb Posted June 24, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2004 When we were on the Star Princess last summer, the ship changed time to be the same as local time for our Alaskan ports. When we went on the Grand Princess in December, the ship stayed on Eastern Standard Time although we went to some ports that were on Central Standard Time. From what I've read, though, it's unusual for a Princess ship not to change its clocks to be the same as local time. Just don't believe anyone who says that they always change. The best thing to do is to find someone who's been on the same ship and itinerary this season just to make sure.
Ruslh Posted June 24, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2004 Our ship, Ryndam with Holland Lines, changed ship's time to correspond to the land/port times. Time changes in Ketchican, I believe. All of Alaska is on Alaska time, whereas Vancouver is on Pacific time.
merela Posted July 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 22, 2004 Is Alaska time one hour ahead or behind Vancouver/Seattle/LA time? Let say if it is 5pm in Seattle, what time is it in Alaska? TIA.
Poohb Posted July 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 22, 2004 Last week we were in Alaska.. 4 hours behind East Coast. The night we were to cruise to the Inside Passage and then dock in Vancouver we were told to reset our clocks back 1 hour.
Budget Queen Posted July 22, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2004 The ship and local time will be the SAME in Alaska. It is one hour behind Pacific time 5pm in Vancouver, 4pm in Juneau ( and most of the rest of the state :) )
Maggoo Posted July 23, 2004 #11 Share Posted July 23, 2004 On the Coral Princess first week in July ship time and port time were the same. One hour earlier than Vancouver and four hours earlier than the east coast.
Plut0 Posted July 23, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2004 As we traveled Southbound on the Veendam through the inner passage, the ship's clocks moved forward an hour from Alaska time to Pacific time to match the local time. There was a reminder in the daily program and also they put a little reminder card on our bed (with the chocolate).
