habari Posted April 20, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted April 20, 2006 WE did check out the BEst WEstern that you suggested but they take a shuttle to the Liberty pier and not the Red Hook. So we are still looking for a hotel. thanks
johnjen Posted April 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2006 What is the Red Hook? Curious, is it better than their shuttle?
BlueHerons Posted April 20, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Red Hook is the port not a hotel and it is in New York City not New Jersey.
madelinerose Posted April 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Although I don't know your definition of reasonable, but here is some info. http://www.hotelsbythepier.com/ http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60827-Brooklyn_New_York-Hotels.html We're using Amtrak when we cruise from Red Hook in September. If we decide to arrive a day early, we're staying here and simply taking a taxi to Red Hook (approximately 3 miles). I wanted to book the Millenium Hilton, however, they would not accept a one-night stay on September 2. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60763-d208452-r4964981-Embassy_Suites_Hotel_New_York_City-New_York_City_New_York.html http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml?moreDesc=true&ctyhocn=NYCNYES Here are the hotels from the Princess site: http://www.princess.com/destination/canada/extend_stay_NYC.html I really have no idea about leaving a car for that many days. I'm sure it will cost a small fortune. I believe there are some threads on the Princess Board regarding parking at hotels. You may want to search there. ;) We are booked on a Princess cruise in July (out of Brooklyn) and are looking for a hotel for the night before the cruise and a few nights after the cruise. thereuare Posted April 20, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2006 Newark is pretty far from Red Hook so expect a taxi to cost you quite a bit (i'd guess $75-$100) and the traffic is very unpredictable. There's also not very much to do in the immediate Newark Airport area (except walk the local mall) and if you would like to see NYC this is a good time to do it (and a much better, albeit more expensive, choice). Depending upon where you're coming from, you could leave your car at a Park N Ride (nominal fee for parking at some) and then take the train into NYC for your pre/post stays, then take the car back to the car when you are finished. madelinerose Posted April 20, 2006 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2006 I believe the op is coming from Ontario. habari, I forgot to mention that the charge to park at the Red Hook Terminal will be $180, which is extremely reasonable for NYC. Most of the hotels I'm familiar with in Manhattan charge anywhere from $30-$45/day,with no in/out privileges. Rare Got2Cruise Posted April 23, 2006 #10 Share Posted April 23, 2006 I would not recommend staying in Newark. If you want to stay near an airport JFK International Airport is the closest to Brooklyn (where the Red Hook terminal is)
