Majestic-NJ Posted May 4, 2006 #151 Share Posted May 4, 2006 I am wondering what time the carnival tour to Peggy's cove leaves and what time it comes back? We'd like to also see at least one of the cemeteries where the people from Titanic are buried. Does anyone know if we will have enough time to do both? Our cruise comes into Halifax on Thursday June 15th at around 8am or so and leaves again at 6pm. Thanks!
bigmjh Posted May 6, 2006 #152 Share Posted May 6, 2006 We're considering renting a car in Halifax and driving to Peggy's Cove ... and wherever else our fancy takes us. Question - will there be a problem parking? Expensive lots? Lack of parking spaces? Etc.? Also ... which side of the road do they drive on? Thanks
Mask Posted May 6, 2006 #153 Share Posted May 6, 2006 bigmjh, First, we drive on the right, same as you. Parking at Peggy's Cove is free (as is Peggy's Cove itself) and there's lots of parking available. I would recommend check out the gift store and trying the chowder or fish & chips in the restaurant. While you are there, check out the Swiss Air Memorial - it's a touching site. Another wonderful spot is Mahone Bay. It's a beautiful place with some interesting stores, and free parking. Pacific Sandy Posted May 7, 2006 #154 Share Posted May 7, 2006 I'm sorry - but did someone from from CA actually ask what side of the road we drive on? Holy crap.
bigmjh Posted May 8, 2006 #155 Share Posted May 8, 2006 :o - Yep ... that was me. After spending a couple weeks in the Med ... where we sometimes drove on the right and sometimes on the left. Then hitting several islands in the Caribbean where ... again ... sometimes on the right ... sometimes on the left. I guess I just asked the question without thinking it through!
maurick Posted May 24, 2006 #156 Share Posted May 24, 2006 Hi Rick, what a great post you have here. Thanks for giving out info on your great city. We will be there June 15th for the day. At least 5th trip and more for us in our group. We have done all the great ideas you have here. I was wondering what is on the other side of the harbor from Halifax? Is there a boat ride or could take a taxi to tour? We always go to O"Carrolls pub for snack/drink every visit before finishing our day in Halifax. Sure hope its still there. Last tiime we were there was last July. Thanks again. Mauree from NJ

tedjazz Posted June 17, 2006 #162 Share Posted June 17, 2006 Hi Rick, DW and I will be traveling to Halifax on Oct. 9, 2006, which I have been told is Canada's Thanksgiving Day. We found that out when attempting to reserve a Renal Car from Enterprise and all of their offices except for the one at the airport will be closed. Do you know if this will likely be the case all over Halifax? Do you have any ideas what touristy things might be open on this holiday? Thanks for your help. Rick1965 Posted June 24, 2006 Author #163 Share Posted June 24, 2006 You've asked a bit of a hard question, yes most major businesses will be closed. But the board walk will most likely be open with a cruise ship in town. The best help I can give you is to contact the tourist board for more information, I'll provide a link which may also help. http://visitors.halifax.ca/request-information.shtml I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Cruisin' Ya Ya Posted June 24, 2006 #164 Share Posted June 24, 2006 Hi Rick, My friends and I will be coming up to Halifax on the Carnival Victory July 10-15th cruise. I was wondering how far a walk to boardwalk in from the cruise terminal. One of my friends has bad legs and can't walk more than a mile round trip. :)

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the Citadel will be open. Canadians are a little flexible on when they cook their turkey and do the big Thanksgiving do... some people will do it Sunday, some Monday, and the town doesn't shut down tight for this holiday. I'm guessing you'll find some shops open, too (cruise ship in town and all).
Rick1965 Posted June 24, 2006 Author #166 Share Posted June 24, 2006 The boardwalk begins at the cruise pier. It would be about a mile oneway to the end of it (Casino Nova Scotia), and about 1/2 a mile oneway to the busy area of the boardwalk. Here's a link that may help... http://visitors.halifax.ca/request-information.shtml http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=32 Hope you enjoy your stay here in Halifax Rick1965
