I only read through the first page, so forgive me if this has been aswered. Buy why does the entire sea around it seem so calm? And who took this photo?

No idea who did the photo, but the ship has been in this position for almost a month.

 

No where in the story was this caused by rough seas. As with any day, the sea can be glass or 30 foot waves.
