MadameButterfly Posted August 1, 2010 #451 Share Posted August 1, 2010 I too love that cruise ship smell and breathing it in deep as soon as you step on board, the drone of the captain's voice over the PA system, he's in control of where we're going today, the itinerary channel on TV with the map, our route, cruising speed, etc (I'm a little big of a map and statistics junkie) the food and the ability to try new foods and enjoy classics like creme brulee or the obligatory molten chocolate cake the staff, they're 99% of the time real, warm and friendly people, I love to find reasons to show and tell them that I really appreciate their efforts to make my vacation special, not to mention learn about their families and homes waking up really early and watching the sunrise, the process of the ship pulling into port and greeting a new world day after day the ability to do nothing or pack my day full, whatever I want to do getting dressed up for dinner, somehow it makes the food taste better fruity cocktails, dirty martinis, and the ability to say "surprise me" and enjoy something new and delicious to sip by the pool people-watching on board sitting on deck and watching the ocean go by the promenade deck - I didn't like the Enchantment of the Seas because it lacked a proper one getting a little bit sunburned, I'm very fair-skinned, so it's almost inevitable, but it means I'm on vacation, just a little bit - so calm down oh, the list could go on and on... Nallekarhu Posted August 3, 2010 #452 Share Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) Two things: 1. French Onion soup one night at dinner. Last cruise, we asked the waiter what night it would be offerered and were disappointed to hear it would not be on the menu for that voyage. Not 5 minutes later, the French head waiter arrives at the table and asks if we enjoyed the French Onion soup. When we told him it was our favorite and how much we always looked forward to having it, he promised that we would each have one waiting for us the next day. Sure enough, soon after being seated, four big bowls of the best soup ever arrived. Our waiter got a very nice tip from our table that trip!! 2. Sitting in the Wheelhouse bar at night and having a cocktail. Only 3 months to go... Edited August 3, 2010 by Nallekarhu
leaski Posted August 6, 2010 #453 Share Posted August 6, 2010 Starring at the wake of the ship! I have tons of pictures of it, it never gets old! And, hearing the ship's horn. I recorded it once while in some fog on or Mexico trip, so I gan hear it whenever I want.:)
fortheloveofcruise Posted August 8, 2010 #454 Share Posted August 8, 2010 I use that chime for text messages. I love that chime! AnyTime Cruiser Posted August 24, 2010 #455 Share Posted August 24, 2010 Two things - First, walking onto the ship (gives me a little thrill every time) and second, sleeping with the balcony doors open for the whole cruise and listening to the waves as they lull me to sleep. Salsa Dancer Posted September 23, 2010 #461 Share Posted September 23, 2010 I use that chime for text messages. I love that chime! I've been google-searching that chime sound. Can you share where you found yours? I didn't find anything like it on iTunes. I found one on a website, too.

texaridian Posted September 25, 2010 #463 Share Posted September 25, 2010 I have to jump on the bandwagon and agree with so much of what everyone has said: Planning and Anticipation Catching the first glimpse of "our" ship Choosing who gets which bed and dividing up the drawers Watching and meeting people The casino The food etc... In addition, I love to play! I like being chosen to participate in the magician's or hypnotist show. I don't mind being a little silly because I can laugh at myself too. I guess I'm a participator. I like the trivia contests, watching the Newlywed Game, entering the putting contest...all of that stuff. I love being able to stay up really late if I want without having to worry about the next day. And I also love being able to nap in the middle of the day to prepare for another late night. I love seeing the clear blue, turquoise, or aqua waters and wanting to dive right off the ship into them. I love being away from work. What's not to love about cruising? I love watching the countdown clock as I head to the next cruise. Most of all, I am grateful to be so blessed to get to cruise. I love spending time alone on the balcony thanking the Creator for this wonderful world. Carol
Liquid Shiva Posted September 30, 2010 #464 Share Posted September 30, 2010 I love to hear you Americans talk, the accent gives me the feeling walking around in a movie, or a sitcom . The easy going attitude, people asking heeee how you're doing??? Asking were we're from, always in the mood for a little chitchat. Can't wait to hear it again...... ohwell.... 7 weeks to go :D
piemom9397 Posted October 2, 2010 #465 Share Posted October 2, 2010 I love the corned beef hash that they have at the breakfast buffets and the roasted garlic soup they have for the first course in the MDR. I love the elevator lady with the British accent stating the Deck # when you arrive at it ("Deck 4"). I am not an outgoing person or prone to small talk, but I feel comfortable doing it on a cruise. And I agree with texaridian about being blessed to get to cruise--looking out on the beautiful sea thinking, "wow, You made all of this for me! Thank you, God!" Princess422 Posted October 6, 2010 #466 Share Posted October 6, 2010 OMG, I loved reading this thread, and agree with a lot of what was posted (minus the muster drill and the toilets). Time to chime in! Pre-cruise: - There is a lot I love - looking forward to the cruise is almost as fun as the cruise itself - but what I most get into is shopping for clothes for it, especially formal night dresses! - Reading through this thread is so enjoyable and reminds me of all the things I love about cruising, so I might just make it a tradition before every cruise ;) Then... On the way to the cruise terminal, when I get my first glimpse of the ship... it is the same feeling I used to get as a kid when we got close to an amusement park and you could see the top of the roller coaster(s) above the trees! I can't think of anything else in the world that gives me that feeling anymore. On the ship: - Going to my cabin for the first time & getting my first patter (and then getting every patter thereafter... love them!) - That first drink up on the deck before sailaway - Sitting at a bar alone - AT the bar - and chatting up the bartender. They're all so friendly, most are from interesting places and have great stories (not only from home, also from working on the ships) - Writing in my travel journal every night - Being rocked to sleep by the movement of the ship (yes, I know it's been said a million times here, but it might be my very favorite thing) After the cruise: Looking at all the photos & scrapbooking, and... Wearing my cruise perfume. For every vacation I go on, I buy a new perfume. I won't wear it (after having tested it to make sure I love it!) until the first day so I don't have other memories to associate with it. Then, after vacation, every time I put it on, I am overwhelmed with memories and for a minute I feel like I'm back there again. I love it! (I still get this feeling from the perfume I wore in May, and now I'll have a new one soon!)

cbsorenson Posted October 19, 2010 #470 Share Posted October 19, 2010 WOW what an awesome thread! Thank you all for bringing back such wonderful memories! Hockeylovinmom Posted October 23, 2010 #471 Share Posted October 23, 2010 This thread is awesome. I like looking at the wind speed, direction, and that little map that shows the ship's progress. Only problem is, I don't like it when the ship has to turn around and head back home. That means the cruise is mostly over :o. I also like the cozy-ness of our cabin -- just DH, me and no worries! Celandine Posted January 16, 2011 #474 Share Posted January 16, 2011 Sorry but I have to ask what is wrong with your water? If you have any more problems, may I suggest hibernation?;) john It doesn't get hot enough in the shower (think - swimming pool temperature) I am living in China, and lets just say heat and China aren't exactly friends..... (although, we do have heaters in our apartment - many buildings don't have heat - there's actually a law against it) I'm sure that affects the hot water somehow.... that or the sheer amount of people needing it right now... beachluvr65 Posted January 17, 2011 #475 Share Posted January 17, 2011 Well, I forgot to mention...it's only at night time when everyone has turned in for the night. I'm not that brave to try it during the day...LOL! Besides, I here the ships have cameras all over the place. I guess nobody else what to fess up....lol. Regina Finflapper Im with you. its just a nude body after all. And if someone wants to watch my middle age spread while im drinking my coffee and reading my paper, then have at it.
