rene194215 Posted June 12, 2011 #1226 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Hi All, just recently bid for a 3 and 1/2 star in Long Beach area 1 for $65 and got it! We are staying 2 nights at the Westin.... Not sure if this will help anyone!!! Normal price on Westin's website is 154.00. So our total for 2 nights is with taxes and all 157.38 while 2 night normal would be 354.42. Savings of almost $200.00:eek:

maryh307 Posted June 16, 2011 #1228 Share Posted June 16, 2011 I have been watching Hotwire for Vancouver and just seen a price drop for the beginning of September. We are looking at catg. 5*. The area map shows from Hornby to Denman and Canada Place to Barnaby. Would anyone know which hotels would have a 5* rating in this area? Thanks Mary

hello Posted June 19, 2011 #1234 Share Posted June 19, 2011 Priceline -- San Pedro -- Crowne Plaza -- 2 nights -- Fri/Sat -- (4/27/12 - 4/29/12) -- pre-cruise -- $65 a night.
Adventures ahead Posted June 28, 2011 #1235 Share Posted June 28, 2011 Just won this 4* hotel for $132/night for two nights, Aug 20-21. Selected Downtown - Pike Place, 4*. I bid over the last three nights, adding up to nine areas and $2 each bid, up to $128. Tonight started at $130. Immediately received a counter bid to add $35. Said, no thanks. Added one more area (with no 4* hotels) and only $2 more. Total $312.20, including taxes/fees. Regular Priceline price (without bidding) was $469.68. Rated #5/134 hotels in Seattle by Priceline. I'm sure this will be the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in. Excited:D!

KCcruisin07 Posted July 2, 2011 #1239 Share Posted July 2, 2011 I was thinking of bidding for Pike Place, but since it is so crowded I am thinking of something nice near there with easy access: car, shuttle, monorail or public transportation. rosebud74 Posted July 13, 2011 #1242 Share Posted July 13, 2011 I am thinking of trying Priceline to book my hotel for November 18th. I have never booked with them before, is there anything I should know upfront? Also should I be looking for something closer to the airport or to the port? We are cruising on the Pride of America on the 19th of November so we will have a day to sightsee before we board the boat. We will also be staying over in Honolulu when we finish our cruise. Any help regarding hotels would be great!

Any help regarding hotels would be great! Hi Rosebud, There is actually A LOT to know before you start bidding (you do mean Priceline Name-Your-Own-Price and not their regular purchase option, don't you?), but once you've done your homework, it can be very easy to get a great hotel at a great price. Do some serious reading at betterbidding and/or biddingfortravel to see what has been won and at what price. Also be sure and check here on CC to find out what your fellow cruisers have won and recommend. Don't overbid (since you have plenty of time to keep trying, and even if you don't want to change your choice of stars* or city areas, you can keep repeating bidding every 24 hours), and don't think that you can necessarily win a "better" hotel by bidding higher. Once you've won your first hotel, you'll probably never want to book lodging any other way. :) I've used Priceline for hotels throughout the U.S., Europe, Australia and most recently, Santiago, Chile! (4* hotels at 2* prices) BTW - For Honolulu, my opinion would be that, if you only have 1 night to enjoy the city (pre and post cruise), don't stay out at the airport - there's not much out there. You'll waste too much of your precious time travelling into and out of the city (even though the trip is not very long -- there is a lot of traffic). Any help regarding hotels would be great! Check your library for a book called Priceline for Dummies. It is a good place to start. As already mentioned, www.betterbidding.com has some valuable information. I suggest you get yourself well educated before you begin the bidding process on the "Name Your Own Price" feature of Priceline. You can also sign up on betterbidding.com for email alerts for whatever cities you want. I suggest you do this for Honolulu. Whenever anyone posts their win, you will see the hotel they won, the star level of the hotel, the price and the dates. It will start to give you an idea of what to expect. Remember, Priceline "Name Your Own Price" wins are non-refundable. I suggest you book a cancellable hotel in Honolulu now. If you win something on Priceline great, if not, you have someplace to stay. I have had the best luck bidding closer to my date of travel. However, you never know what will happen. Also know that although many deals work out great with Priceline, there are often unhappy customers. Some didn't read that Priceline Name Your Own Price only guarentees one bed. Then they get upset if a hotel won't give them two beds. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. Often you get the undesireable rooms: the unrenovated ones, the ones next to the elevator or ice machine, etc. However, often you get very nice rooms. Just get educated on what to expect so there are no surprises.

CAC104 Posted July 20, 2011 #1249 Share Posted July 20, 2011 The Priceline bidding is only good if you do not have any needs that have to be met. As stated before they only guarrantee one room. If you are traveling with a friend or a child that you do not want to sleep with, then you could be disappointed. The other thing is they will not guarrantee a non smoking room. We didn't know this and my husband has a lung condition and he cannot bear any smoke or odors. I got a hotel room and then dialed the hotel directly to request the non smoking room and was denied. They were adamant that the only rooms they had open were smoking rooms. I called Priceline and talked to a manager and he agreed to refund the room price, which is rarely done, and since then we just book a room that we know will meet the health demands.
