stuNYC Posted September 22, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I know that I am in the minority; but what is the smoking policy on HAL Are there designated areas for smoking Can you smoke on your verandah/cabin Where can you smoke cigars The most enjoyable experience I have had was on Celebrity WHEN they used to have Michaels Pub for cigar smokers. It was a place to relax and not bother anybody else and meet the nicest people. Michael's pub is gone; is there anyplace left. What about the casino; bars
jhannah Posted September 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2006 From HAL's website: Smoking For the comfort of all of our guests, designated smoking and nonsmoking areas are available in most lounges. Smoking is not permitted at any time in dining areas. Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests. All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances. The Oak Room is available for cigar smoking. The Lido pool area is usually designated as smoking on one side (port or starboard) and non-smoking on the other. Look for the ashtrays.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 22, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I see that you are going to be on the Noordam. There is also a smoking area, closed in, just off the Explorer's Lounge -- no cigars there though.

cool change Posted September 23, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 23, 2006 There are plenty of places for smokers, not to worry. I almost just responded by saying "rut row". Hopefully you will have your answer. Nuff said.
Vic The Parrot Posted September 23, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2006 In public rooms, look for the ashtrays and small table signs that are marked "Designated smoking area" There'll be an ashtray in your cabin ... if not ask the steward. Outdoors you'll see blue plastic ashtrays on the tables. Easy to find. Enjoy your trip!
Sea King Posted September 23, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 23, 2006 So far smoking is allowed in all bars (in designated areas except for the Casino bar on the S class ships), the casino, designated parts of Explorer's lounge, outside on Promenade, @Navigation Pool area (usually on just 1 side), Lido Pool (again on one side), in your rooms and on your balconies (so far). There is also cigar smoking in the Oak Room on Vista and usually "under the stars" at the Lido pool bar for the most part, the number of smokers has significantly decreased over the past 5-6 years .. depending on the itinerary, the number of smokers might be 10-20% of all pax suspect smoking areas in the bars will decrease in size and smoke free nights or hours might begin in casino .. also believe smoking might be eliminated from balconies in the not too distant future
jagmanss1 Posted September 23, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 23, 2006 sea king, You have now just opened up this thread for A debate for the Smoker vs Non-Smokers, Please folks the OP got the answer let it go.... There was no need to put so far and underline it and was uncalled for.... Sea King, This is your opinion and you have nothing to back up your statistics and percentages..... smokers on the whole in the real world not just on cruises may be declining, but you have no basis for your figures and suspicions on A cruise ship...... BumperII Posted September 23, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 23, 2006 sea king, You have now just opened up this thread for A debate for the Smoker vs Non-Smokers...... Probably not. We have taken three HAL Cruises and will be on our fourth next month. It is true that there really are very few smokers on board HAL ships, and smoking vs non smoking is a non issue. We are Non Smokers of the worst kind, (former smokers) and during the last fourteen day cruise, you could count the time we were aware of presense of tobacco smoke in seconds. It just isn't in a problem. What I love most about HAL ships is their uncanny ability to accomodate the needs of just about everyone. Not to worry, enjoy your cruise.:)

A guy on 1460am here in Jax.......I know y'all get it in Palm Coast, too, complained about the name teal, not the color. said it's a girly name, and should be called blue-green. I have about 20 teal tshirts, my DH has 2, and has worn them to every game since 96. Go Jags
