the dreaded liquor BILL

that we could pay for our shore excursions before the cruise and not after...then our bill wouldn't be high at all...Royal Caribbean does it...just wish Princess would allow you to make the choice at least.

I do know with Princess you can call and put a shipboard credit on your account. I did that to cover the cost of my shore excursions and the tip so that my bill would be less at the end. In May our bill ran about $1200 for 4 people, with $280 for tip, and $250 for shore excursions, the specialty dining, a few pictures, drinks, soda cards, bingo, bought a few comedy cd's - however no spa or casino and didn't really buy much of anything in any of the shops. However wasn't shocked as I kept every receipt to check the bill which I know many think I am crazy for checking everything.

In our house we have a running "joke". It always costs us almost as much to get "off" the ship as it was to get "on". So, I try to get the best deal I can when I make the original booking. (Hope to get off cheaper that way!)

Next trip: 27 days! Don't even want to think what that bill may be like. The ship's excursion in St Petersburg, Russia is $369.00 per person! (Of course, that is for a two day tour.)

And, it always seems we are celebrating "something" during our cruises.

If nothing else, just that we are on a "cruise"!

Bon Voyage to all!

I'm wondering the same thing. He must mean the shipboard account.

If it bothers you, why drink so much? I don't understand why people feel the need to get schloshed on a cruise. Sorry, but I'd rather remember my cruise! ;)

Did not hear him say he was "sloshed" the whole trip. A bit judgemental!:(

We sort of deal with this. We know what excursions we've booked and take Travelers Cheques to pay for them right away. Our cruise in two weeks, the shore excursions are $700 for the two of us, I threw in tips and I have $1,000 in Travellers Cheques to pay off the Shipboard account right away, that way I won't go into Heart Failure on the last day :)

How funny to see this a day after my husband asked me about our last cruise card bill...! We tend to run on the high side. Kids order Virgin drinks like they will save them from scurvy! We don't run to the cabin for a drink or beer if there is a bartender. Our bill was one I should frame to keep us from cruising again, but I filed it...(can't find it without actually looking) - So we are headed out for the next round - this will be a great Christmas to remember!:D

I think we should thank all your friends and other folks that run up those $4500 onboard bills. They are enhancing the cruise line's profit margin so they do not have to raise the cruise fares to the rest of us. :D

My sentiments exactly, and you are welcome!:D

On my last cruise we went with 2 other couples and 1 couple had a $4500. shipboard bill and the other has $3500. Ours was only $800 and we did a few excursions. The other couples each only did 1, most of their bill was the bar. needless to say they like to drink

We thought our bill was high at $200/day...and I felt like we drank all day everyday (must've paced well...never sloshed). But as I considered it, I realized there were tips, bingo cards, 3 individual excursions and a tad of shopping on there. Not so bad!

I'm gonna show this to DH--see, honey, it could be MUCH worse!

One of the best parts about cruising in my opinion is the fact that everyone is on this amazing vacation for their own personal reasons. Therefore, everyones bills reflect their own interests. I know little to nothing about art, and was fairly shocked how many ppl were buyng lg peices of art on vacation. However, I do know a thing or two about drinking. You might not have found me gazing @ any art peices, but I was never too far away from a bar. I'm 24, it was our first cruise, and we were there to party. You can't do too much every night or you'll be dragging during the day, but my motto in life is "to each is own". Unless anybody is asking you to chip in for their onboard acct. then don't worry about it
