Room assignments and upgrades

The guarantee means you did not select a cabin, but you are guaranteed a cabin of a given category.

When a guarantee is booked it can be for a certain category for example, you book a category C guarantee. This means you are guaranteed to be assigned a C cabin or possibly a cabin in a higher category, but not any lower.

Another example is an outside guarantee. This means you will be assigned an outside cabin. You may be assigned the lowest outside category.

Generally a guarantee cabin is assigned at the 1-2 week from sailing mark. Sometimes it's a lot further out than that; sometimes it's not until you're at the pier!

If your cabin assignment is made before you leave your TA should notify you. In any case you can check the HAL website Immigration form. When your cabin is assigned the number will appear there. IF you get an upgrade you can figure that out by comparing the cabin category you booked against the category you were assigned to.

Judging by the variations in opinion in the thread about what constitutes an "upgrade" I wouldn't venture about how you'll consider your cabin assignment!;)
