Platinum and Diamond recognition by staff

Recommended Posts

On my last cruise, we got a big welcome back when we boarded. There was also a special drink table (in Galveston) by the check-in for us. Our cabin steward was very aware of our status and made sure we got all our free stuff. I got the opinion that the staff cared about its frequent cruisers.

We just returned from the Grandeur.

Our stateroom steward seemed very excited that we were Platinum members and he treated us like Royalty, to the point that it was almost embarrassing. He would greet us in the hall and tell us that he had just put an invitation on our bed and that we were invited to a party! :D When we returned from the parties (our JS was conveniently located near the centrum, so we would return from the parties or shows before heading down to dinner...trying to stay away from the public bathroom's) our steward would ask us how it was and if we had a good time.

We were invited to two parties. One for repeat guest and another for D & P members. All the staff treated us like they really appreciated us sailing with RCCL again.

We have only felt that our C&A status mattered one time as far as service. We had a cabin steward who was thrilled to have Diamond members in one of her rooms. LOL I thought it was cute. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. I think she just really wanted the Commador's Card (I think that's what it is called?). Well, she got it ;) Mainly because she worked so hard for it.

Other than that, we have never seen a difference in service. Even when we call RCCL directly.

We stay with RCCL becuase of the benefits we get for our status, not special treatment. White luggage tags, conceriege lounge, $200 off a balcony for a 7nt, and priority boarding are what keep us coming back.

Usually on RCCL at least my cabin steward will note that I am diamond and seem excited. However just last month on the Sovereign not a thing was said about it. I was invited to everything and got all the perks - the pleather picture frames, etc. but I did miss having it acknowledged. That was my first ever 3-day cruise so I just assume it's because it was such a short cruise. Not only that but there were lots of diamond/diamond plus members on board. It seems like the shorter cruise attracts more of them than the longer ones do. Then again, being a short weekend cruise out of Florida if I lived there I would probably do it several times a year as many of these folks did - thus I would be diamond plus.

Where do we get such cards. It would bwe great to let the hotel manager know how much we appreciate the steward or whoever.

I think one of the things that makes RC great is they treat everyone the same as far as I can tell..........Gold, Platnium or Diamond.........everyone gets the same level of service. I can't ever recall anything special, other than the perks you earn, for just being a Diamond member.

They will be in your room. I can't remember if they are there the first night, or delivered with the envelopes on the second to last night.

I agree with Jim...........everyone on board is treated with equal respect and that's the way it should be. As Jim said, each level in C&A gets you different types of rewards.....things that one has earned for being loyal to one cruise line.

What will have more influence in keeping us with RCCL is if the staff acknowledges us as frequent guests or care less.

It never ceases to amaze me as to how many posters here think that the cruise line owes them something for being repeat customers...and that any channge or lessening of such perks will cause them to abandon the line...

I am a Diamond C&A member (also an "Elite" Captains Club member on Celebrity)...

But I do not choose cruises based on these very minor club perks...

What keeps us with a cruise line is the cruise itself...the ship, the itinerary, the service, the food, the activities, etc. REGARDLESS of our club status...

Everyone who books and pays for a cruise should be treated well...whether it's your first cruise with a particular cruise line, your fifth, or your fiftieth...

The service should ALWAYS be top notch...they should welcome you and be happy to serve you no matter who you are...just for the fact that you booked and paid for the cruise, are paying their salaries and/or giving them their tips...

I, personally, don't care if they "recognize" me as a Diamond C&A member...I only care that my cabin steward regularly makes up my room while respecting my needs and my privacy and being polite and pleasant and looking after my assorted needs...I only care that my waiter and assistant waiter learn my preferences, are helpful in their suggestions, are prompt in their service and are pleasant, but professional...I only care that the bartenders and bar servers look after my needs without being too obtrusive, promptly bring my drinks and get the orders right...I only care that the cruise director and activities staff are fun and entertaining and help make the cruise an enjoyable experience...I only care that the rest of the staff--the pursers and shorex desk, the shop people and the other crew are pleasant, helpful and concientious...

And ALL of that is something they should be doing for EVERY passenger...They all pay good money for the cruise and they should all be able to expect that same level of treatment...

...and THAT is what keeps ME coming back to Royal Caribbean, Celebrity or any other cruise line that gets my business...

The "perks" and "recognition" are nice, but certainly not material...

Here we go again!!

I just asked the question because we have been, so far, very pleased with the service on RCCL except for purser- & excursion desks. I can care less about picture frame, discount on drinks or whatever, but appreciate the discounts on staterooms.

I am very pleased with the replies that from time to time employees recognizes guests for being a frequent cruiser. That shows they really care about their guests.

Being in the Hospitality Business myself, I give every guest great service but I also acknowledge the frequent guests so they will come back to me again and again. Cost is to me not the only reason to frequent a business, but the sincerety of the staff.

We appreciate all the nice extras that RCL gives to C & A members.

To some degree, the discounts and OBCs factor in to continuing to cruise with RCL because our final price is within our budget. Also, we have become very familiar with the entire RCL cruise process from start to finish by being frequent cruisers, and that knowledge seems to enhance our overall experience.

Just off Vision OS, and a memorable part for us onboard was being able to speak with Captain Stein and the CD John Blair. With RCL, we feel like a part of the RCL family and always receive outstanding service.

Adding it all up, cruising is a great value.

I just asked the question because...

Viking,

Sorry if you found my post somehow offensive...

But, realistically, I was reacting to YOUR phrasing which included the wording "What will have more influence in keeping us with RCCL..."

This certainly implies that your reason for asking this question related to your recognition as a repeat customer being tied into your willingness to cruise with RCCL again...

Although you state such in your response to me, it really doesn't appear that your initial post had anything to do with having "just asked the question because we have been, so far, very pleased with the service"...

Your response intimates that I am somehow at fault for having ignored or misinterpreted your original premise...but, perhaps you should re-read your own post before attacking ME...

I believe my response was clearly appropriate based on your initial premise to your question...

This kind of sums up my feeling about being Diamond. We like the perks -- I really used the Concierge Lounge on my past 2 cruises but DH would rather go to Windjammer for breakfast while I enjoyed my lox, bagel, cream cheese and Cappuccino in theCL. The extra discounts, higher priced coupons etc. really factor in when we price cruises. RCCL always comes out as the least expensive in part because of these discounts. DH gets really hyper about getting off the ship so priority disembarkation helps too. We also like sailing with the same staff a few times and getting to know them.

I agree that it makes you feel like you want to honor RCCI when they make you feel grateful that your coming back to them...with any perks, discounts and notice your a returning customer...so I would go back to a place that would notice that your honor them.

Because many times I have thought about going back to Carnival for my younger daughter wants waterslides....but it's RCCI's perks and feeling welcome back! that we still stick with them.

Bingo...That is one of the things that I noticed right away by RCI on my first cruise. I have always been treated the same since day one and that is how it should be. A persons Crown and Anchor status should not be a factor. I know some think that a person should wear their Diamond pin so that they get the respect that they deserve but that's not me.;) :)

Two questions:

How many cruise credits does it take to be a Diamond member?

What is a Commander card? This is the first I have ever heard of it.

10 to become Diamond................24 to become Diamond Plus.

Have never heard of a Commander card.

We became Platinum Members after our cruise in December and enjoyed receiving the pins and the special coupon book on our cruise in January. Our Room Steward did make mention of it which we thought was nice; plus there were robes in our D1 cabin! Quite honestly we like the perks and are looking forward to becoming Diamond level next January (or sooner if I can convince my DH to take a short cruise in the early winter).

Loyalty programs are designed to keep you coming back and as long as it is good value for money then we will be there.

Cheers

Kathy

two months ago my BF, his brother and wife, and my BF parents went on 3 nighter to Ensinada, MX. We and his brother and wife had inside cabins next to each other. Accross from us was the parents in outside one step up from our insides. We were treated exactly the same with courtesy and respect from everyone especially the dining room.

We had toyed with taken QEII across the pond to England but when I went on their web site apparently it is the old cast system where depending where your stateroom is determines the quality of dining room. I refuse to play that game. At least with RCCL our inside closet got the same treatment as the Owners Suite.

Oh I love the special recognition of being a diamond member...let's see:

-towels turned into animals in my cabin using my expensive sunglasses...cute.

-being given not one, but two pool towels to be used at the pool or on shore excursions.

-having a daily "compass" hand delivered to my cabin nightly that explains the next day's activities.

-having my cabin cleaned not once, but twice daily.

-having ice delivered twice daily to my cabin and having a fully stock refrigerator that I can purchase from...convienient.

-and the best, being given individually addressed envelopes for my steward and waiters at the end of the cruise.

And I'm sure I've missed others. Diamond.....it has it's advantages. ;)

Am I missing something from the above two post? We just only turned Platinum before our last cruise and received all the above. In fact we received all of the above before turning Platinum. Are you being facetious? :D

OK, we now have 7 credits after this past cruise. If we book one more cruise in a JS or higher and make it a 12 day, then we will be Diamond members for our next cruise. ;)

My interpretation of Mike's post is that, it doesn't matter what level you are in C&A.........we all are equal and are entitled to the same little perks as he mentioned.

He didn't mention the coupon booklets that are found on the bed when you first board.........those are different depending on your level in C&A.

Congratulations..........soon you will be a shiny Diamond on all future RCI cruises!!:D

A Commadore card is a card distributed to D/D+ where you can designate the employee who was most helpful. i.e. the staffer who should get the most recognition. Our waiter on Mariner got this as did Maritza, the Concierge on Serenade.
