Puffinater Posted April 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Go to the Fun Stuff area of the boards and click on the Photo Gallery topic. There is a thread there specifically about formal attire. Quite a few pictures.
wraithe Posted April 11, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Cruise Critic Fashion Thread is the main thread to talk about fashion, and here's a recent picture thread in that forum. Not just RCL, but information on all lines, some of the same old blue jeans in the DR crap, but really good info as well. Hope that helps some. cb at sea Posted April 11, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Go to any department store--they have TONS of "formal wear". Or, watch the Oscars--that's what those folks are wearing!
Merion_Mom Posted April 11, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Or, watch the Oscars--that's what those folks are wearing! Good Lord, NO! No, no, no, a thousand times NO! ;)
cb at sea Posted April 12, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2007 Oh, yes! Not the ones trying to make a "fashion statement", but most of the women are in long gowns and the men in tuxes! (of a sort!) That is "formal". The object is to look as good as possible, in a dress that fits you well and hides your flaws!
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted April 12, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2007 I've just checked my cruise documents for both Radiance of the Seas--Nov 2006 and Majesty of the Seas--Feb 2007. Here is how Royal Caribbean defines "formal." FORMAL: cocktail dresses for women; suits and ties or tuxedos for men. Note that it does not require gowns, which may be a new policy because I think it did formerly require gowns for the ladies. The true definition of formal is a gown. Think of the red carpet at the Oscar awards. The way most men and women are dressed for Oscar ceremonies is formal. You might also consider prom attire. Cocktail dresses are usually shorter than full-length gowns, but the fabric is still very dressy. On a typical Royal Caribbean cruise you will see many, maybe even most, women in gowns on formal nights.
ndsumfun Posted April 12, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2007 Pictures of formal wear? I have no idea!?!? I've only been on two Royal Caribbean cruises and I felt no need to wear an actual "formal" dress. People dress in all different things! I would just pick out something pretty & wear it......as for hubby just add a jacket w/tie to pants & shirt. It's your vacation after all!!! :D
aqhacruiser Posted April 12, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2007 The majority of women I have seen wore cocktail dresses and men wore suits but I have seen everything and all were welcome into the dining room on formal night. :)
