Did I pick the right ship??

Recommended Posts

We leave for The Enchantment of the Seas in two days and I worried-

Did I pick the right ship??? My hubby asked if it had a basketball court and I told him no. My 8yr old asked if it had a movie theatre and I said no. Now I'm nervous ...is Enchantment the right cruise for a family of four???

Hubby did'nt want to commit to any longer cruises because of the fact that this is our first cruise. I did want to book voyager class but they were all 7 or 8 days which was far to long. Enchantment had 6 day, 5 nites which sounded good-

But now I feel that maybe Enchantment might be to small. Am I just having cruise day jitters or did we pick the wrong ship. We are first time cruisers so maybe it wont be so bad.....

Your opinions please????

You'll LOVE the Enchantment!!! And...with it being your first cruise, it will seem HUGE...not small at all. Unless you've been on one of the "biggies", the smaller ones seem huge!! If your 8-year-old goes to the Adventure Ocean activities, they'll keep him so busy, he won't miss a movie theater. If not, I'm sure he'll be spending time in the pools, doing the bungee jump, and climbing the rock wall. And...your husband can do all of those things as well, if he chooses! We've done several of the "big" ships and although they are our favorites as far as "ships" go, the Enchantment was our favorite, as far as the crew goes! Everybody was FANTASTIC!!!

If you ask me.....you picked the perfect ship for your first cruise. The movie theater probably wouldn't show anything that your son would like anyway......and who wants to sit in a movie theater on a cruise!? He'll love the bungee thing....there will be plenty of things for him to do. We love the Vision and Radiance class ships the best! But 5 days?......Way too short for me!!!!

Our first cruise was on the "Enchantment" (12/2005... I posted a review that's here somewhere). We've already done a second (Princess, Alaska) and are doing a third (RCCL, Italy) and have already booked our fourth: a return to the "Enchantment" in February. :D

She's a great ship. They stretched her so, IMO, she's a perfect ship for a first cruise: she's as long as the megaships, but not as tall or as crowded, so you get both the "big ship" AND the "little ship" feel. You won't lack for things to do. For our first cruise we brought books, iPod, deck of cards... and didn't use any of them, LOL. You'll spend a lot of time walking around the ship, looking at the Centrum and the shops, walking the top deck, lounging at the pool (I preferred to sit at the inside pool and chill out), wandering up to the buffet for a cup of coffee or some soft-serve, poking around in the casino, etc.,. Not to mention the nightly shows (magician, dancing, comedian). (I can't recall but, while they don't have an actual movie theater, they might even use the theater to show movies during the day.) The stretching added an additional pool topside and the "Boleros" lounge (mojitos!). I'm glad we did her first; our first "big ship" will be the Voyager for Italy.

I_Josiah-Just got the EOS this past Monday (23rd)..you can read my review under "Big Al's Enchantment Of The Seas Review"..the EOS is nice, and since you haven't been on the new big ships, you won't know the difference.Boleros is THEE hottest spot on board, plus the Karaoke,Love & Marriage show, and the production shows should keep you busy...you cannot compare the Enchantment to say..the Freedom of the Seas or even the Mariner, they are simply much bigger have ALOT more options,activities,amenities,etc...and I will urge you to try one of the big ships..I was a bit bored at night after my last 2 cruises (Freedom,Mariner),but like most posters said-you won't know the difference and neither will your Husband or kid.On the big ships, you will never see your kid except at dinner and bedtime, there's so much to do.AND don't forget the mini-golf,ice-skating rink & show,Royal Promenade parades, video arcade room for kids, and yes-full-court basketball, sports bar,and on the FOS,a karaoke recording booth where you can record your own song..and no one can hear you because it's sound proof....but you should enjoy the EOS,she's a beauty-don't miss Chops(no kids under 16)..food & atmosphere 100% better than dining room...have a great cruise!

I wanted to thank you all for the great feedback on my upcoming cruise:o) We're so excited and I guess you guys are right...we're not

seasoned cruisers and will probably be astonished by how big the ship is.

I'm such a worrier!!

Not a worrier you have the Pre-cruise anticipation bug. This affliction is worst for first time cruisers and is alliviated by great adventures and future cruise's. You are going to have a great time. We had the same feelings in 2006 before we went on Millennium and again this March for Mariner of the Seas. And it is already building for Next March's Sovereign of the Seas. Go enjoy and have a great time.

EOS is perfect for the OP. If you went on a larger ship, you might not like it due to the constant crowds. It's like living in a congested mall for a week on those monsters.

We prefer the smaller ships. We're going on the Empress in July and think it'll be a big break from the Explorer cruise we went on last year.

The enchantment is a wonderful ship. Plenty to do for a 4-5 night cruise. I leave in a week and can't wait. they have excellent service and friendly crew. I am sure your son being 8 will have a ball with the other kids and activities. I think this was a great choice for first time cruisers. It will get you ready to try a bigger ship and longer cruise.

Have a great time:)

Boy are you gonna be sorry you DIDN"T book a longer cruise. You'll be hanging your heads as you disembark saying, "Why didn't we do a 7 day?"

No kidding. Enjoy:D

I heartily agree with all those above!

Enchantment is an excellent ship. We took our first cruise, an anniversary cruise, on her two years ago [pre-stretch] and we found her, well, enchanting! A year later we went back with our son in tow and found the new features added to the experience.

The staff on both trips was top notch, friendly and efficient. The activities available are much more fun than any second run movie. We did line-dancing, juggling lessons and won a trivia contest among other things. Finally, IMO, the five day itinerary is perfect for a first cruise. It is long enough to get the full experience but not too much of a commitment in case it turns out not to be your cup of tea. [i have heard that can happen, but never actually seen it!]

Have a great time! We did...twice!
