We are flying to Tampa from Texas the day before embarkation (October20). Anyone have suggestions on where to stay?

There will be 5 adults in all--2 in 60s and three in late 20s. I would like to house us in one room to save $$$. A small suite with two doubles and a sleeper sofa would be idea.

Also, we need to either walk to the port or have a shuttle. I guess we could take a cab also.

Just wondered if anyone knew a place that was great, inexpensive, and might have a shuttle to the port.

Cruise port thread has lots of info on Tampa.

Flight times between our city & Tampa really stink (think a 2 1/2 hour direct flight that becomes an 8 or 9 hour epic:eek: ). Seriously considering flying into MCO, enjoying Univeral or WDW - then driving down & return rental in the am @ port/Westshore dropoff; then driving back up to MCO.

If we do decide to suffer thru the long flight, i have booked the doubletree westshore; just a basic room w/airport & port shuttle around $100 - added breakfast deal for another $20.

The Chase Suites offer a cruise pkg...for us it would be $169+; it gets good reviews. They offer larger multi-level suites & rooms even have a fireplace.

Another option w/cruise pkg & larger accommodations is the Sailport - it was around $130 as i recall.

TPA is always easier for us than MCO, but it's not that bad a drive to Tampa if you decide to do that. I just booked the Legend and am scouring the East Coast board for info on hotels in case the inlaws are out of town or otherwise occupied when we get there.

Thank you for starting this thread.

Do any of you have photos of the teen only area on Legend??? We are currently booked on Glory and the teen area looks amazing but I can't seem to find any photos of the new teen area on Legend. We just got off Miracle and there was no teen area at all and we don't want to cruise again without a dedicated teen area but DD would like to see it.

Thanks

Kim

I don't have a picture but we were on the Legend with DS's (22,15) & DD (16) on 4/29. The arcade was huge and at the very front of the ship above the theatre. The teen area is near the gym and it was set up nicely but there were only half a dozen teens including my own on this cruise. One ship we were on had the teen area attached to the arcade, this was better. My DD said they watched American Idol one night in the teen area, and there were always things planned even though there weren't very many teens. The woman in charge was friendly, DD only said good things about her. I think there were video games hooked up in there also. The teen area is seperate from the arcade. In Belize they could have went cave tubing on a ship excursion that was only for the teens, but we had this excursion privately for our whole family so our teens didn't participate.

They pretty much answered most of the questions but I was just going to add that we were in room 4136 which is right in the middle of the ship and had a good experience. The "obstructed" view from our room was the lifeboat right outside but we were still able to open the door and get a nice breeze at night. We also didn't really experince much movement in our room, which was nice. I'm thinking it's because we were in the middle of the ship and there's less movement than on the ends of the ship? I don't know much about engineeering and design but it sounds good anyway.

We have one of these cabins booked for August and I'm glad to hear that the feeling of movement was at a minimum. I was hoping that would be the case, so it's good to hear your experience. My DD has a small problem with motion sickness and felt a bit queasy at times last year on the Glory when we had an aft cabin. Nothing too bad, though, she was mostly able to take care of it with Bonine

GRAND CAYMAN- We took an island tour of Grand Cayman which was neat. I highly recommend visiting "Hell" in Grand Cayman and mail off a postcard to someone back home. The postcard will be postmarked from "Hell" and it's just apparently the thing to do. It was kind of fun! It's a very small part of the island but it was neat. The turtle farm was nice too.

We are wanting to do this tour in August. We're not really interesting in doing the Stingray thing, would just like to see a bit of the island. Did you do your tour through the ship or did you book it independently? If independent, could you share the name of the operator with us? Do you think there would be enough time to do the tour and have a bit of time at the beach? Also, what did you think of the tender process in Grand Cayman? Man, I'm just a bundle of questions! :D

snorkelplenty, here is a thread with an abundance of information about Tampa hotels. It's extremely long, so you might just want to go about 10 pages back from the end and read from there. Also, there are some other threads on the Gulf Coast Departures Board that might help you.

We leave out on the 27th. I am fairly new to CC but I have been keeping up with all the boards and I have enjoyed reading all of your reviews and posts. Thank you because you have hel me plan a lot of my trip. Granted I have left time for "surprise stuff" (like winning big in th Casino) but I have found a lot of useful info from you all. Thank YOU!!!

Like I said I am fairly new to CC, but I read where several of you get together on your cruises. And somewhere I read where there is a meeting time for everyone to get together. Can someone tell me about this and if there is something special you have to do to be a part of that group? I'm so excited about this vacation. I'll do a review when I get back.

Bon Voyage!

Visit the Roll Call for the exact date of your cruise. If that group hasn't already set-up a meeting place...suggest it. Our Roll Call Group could be nominated for one of the BEST EVER. We met outside on Lido deck...but after being on the ship there are better places...like the Firebird Lounge.

Have a great cruise!

Does the Legend have a Cigar Bar? My Dh likes to smoke cigars on occasion. We always say we should go and enjoy but never seem to make it. Maybe this time if there is one.

Hopefully someone who smokes can answer this better:

I don't remember seeing a specific "Cigar Bar" like on the Destiny....but there are bars that have smoking like the Sports, Piano, Satchmo's etc.

We stayed at Chase Suites when we cruised out of Tampa on Miracle. Great place, price included breakfast and also picked up up from the airport, took us to the port and at the end of the cruise picked us back up at the port and took us to the airport. Very nice staff and was very clean.

I've booked the Embassy Suites Convention center (near Channelside) for our upcomming Legend cruise (July 1) for the night prior. If you don't book something between now & then, I'll let you know how it was!

Thanks Kelli.

They have been on our other cruises as well.

Just never took the time to go.

No kids this time so thought if there was one we could work into our schedule.

It is our 25th and do not want it to be all about me:).

Belize - not much at the docking area...need to book sometype of excursion to really enjoy....booked the stingray snorkel and CayeCaulker beach for this trip, again thru Shore Trips.com

Cozumel...Lovet o rent scooters and explore the island....never had a problem, always had a great time!!!!!!!:o

Just booked the Legend for the same ports we had on Miracle 2 years ago.

We have been to Cayman twice, this time we are just going shopping.

At Cozumel, we have been to Paradise Beach twice, might try something different this time.

Costa Maya, I want to go to Mahajual again,

Belize, we did cave tubing, will do a snorkel trip off the ship this time.

I'm really excited, it's fun to be going back to familiar ports!:)

Yes, yes, and yes. Doubletree Westshore Airport is what we booked. I booked it through their website and prepaid, and it came to like $71. Since it's a Hilton brand, I'm thinking (haven't been there yet) that it will be a really nice hotel. The woman at the desk, when I called, said that they do transport from the airport and to the Port of Tampa --- she told me both are free. So ---. Everyone says that is a really good rate, so ---. But that's in September.

I have a question about the casino on the Legend, well actually my husband has a question. Do anyone know if there is a Texas Hold Em table and if so do you play against the dealer or other passengers?

Thanks!

Sorry it took me so long to get back on and reply...been super busy this past week.

We didn't book through Carnival. When we got to Grand Cayman, we didn't know what we wanted to do and figured we would just wing it. So, like all the other ports, people are milling around with their signs trying to sell whatever tours and there was a lady who was holding a sign advertising an island tour for $20 per person, about 2 hours long. And we followed her to her taxi and she drove us to all the places listed on her tour and stopped at the different locations. It was nice to just ride around and see everything. At each stop we were there about 15-20 minutes. We went to "Hell", the "Turtle Farm", the Tortuga Rum Factory, stopeed near a beach, took some beautiful photos, saw the Governor's house, and other various local attractions. It was pretty relaxing.

I'm not sure who the tour operator was, we just liked what she was offering us to see, and we paid her cash at the end of the tour, no receipt or anything like that. You would definitely have time to hit the beach after a tour. We skipped going to the beach and went back onboard the ship to eat lunch and we had at least 2-3 hours before the ship departed. Plus we got up late so I'm sure we would have had plenty of time to do more things if we had wanted to.

I thought the tender was fairly easy at Grand Cayman. It only took about 5 minutes. The ship isn't too far out from the dock in that port.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise when you go!!

Just an added note..

the previous reply I posted was supposed to be in reply to the post by CRUISEBIE on 05/18/07 but since I still have much to learn on how to quote text, it didn't really come out that way and isn't quite obvious that I am even replying to anyone. If anyone can share with me how to get the text to quote so that I can post normally like everyone else I would TOTALLY appreciate it!

Sorry about that...:)

I forgot about this thread and posted this question but did not get a reply. I hope someone here can help me.

Cabin 5270 on Legend. Is this a good cabin. I am booking for April of 2008. Should I just book balcony guarantee (as I have in the past on other cruises and been happy)? Is there a lot of motion or engine noise in the cabins on the back of the ship? Should I book a balcony cabin in the middle of the ship instead? If so what deck? Thanks for any info.
