We will be going on the Legend in July and can't wait!! Any information you can give on the islands would be great. We are most concerned about Belize because of the tendering. We are thinking of taking an excurson straight from the ship.

Looking forward to hearing all about the Legend! Have a great time!

I was on the 5-6-7 Legend cruise with cleavis. Tendering in Belize was much faster than we anticipated when we saw how far out we were. I timed the trip. It took about 13-14 minutes. Someones once posted that it took 45 minutes. That is totally wrong.

Hi, has anyone stayed in Stateroom 6181 on the empress deck, or another Cat 11 in close proximity to this one? I have studied the deck plans and I have seen pics of a Cat 11 aft, but I cannot find pics of a Cat 11 midship. Just wondering if anyone had stayed in one and what their impressions were. Would love pics if you have them.

Thanks,

We were in 6203. You will LOVE all the room.. King bed, chair, sofa w/ 2 end tables and a coffee table. Double closet, 4 large drawers, other cabinets, safe, seperate dressing roomw/marble top counter and 4 small drawers. in the dressing room there is also another double closet. Double sink in bathroom and jacuzzi tub.

I am so hooked now on this big cabin. Theres no going back. I'll try to post some cabin pics.

Boozebabe: Thank you so much for the info. We are really looking forward to this vacation. If you can post pics that would be really great. So did your cabin also have the upper? Being that this is our first cruise, I am new to all this and trying to figure out exactly what an upper is and where it is usually located. I'm guessing it is some type of "top bunk bed"??

Temperature is all public places seemed pretty perfect to me. I did not need a sweater and I was never hot either.

The ONLY time it seemed cold was when we showed up early for an event, but by the time the place filled up, I was not cold anymore!

My cabin was also a perfect temperature!

Hi keishashadow, i will be in cabin 4230 on the legend june 3. I will take a picture so you can see up it looks like.

Here are a couple of pictures of 4230 - our son and his friend were in this cabin when we sailed on the Legend in March. The open door you see at the far end of the cabin is the connecting door to 4228.

yes, there are alot of tables for two

some good, some not

If I wanted to be alone, I would prefer the ones along the balcony railing on the second floor.

Here is a view from our two-topper - upper level (Table #415)

We booked one of these aft cabins; glad to see a pic:) of the interior.

Switched down to this deck based on info gleaned here as to more private/upright partitions between cabins & more of an overhang above.

Was the late show especially "blue" as to language? No prude but; know DS would be uncomfortable with ma & pa present lol.

Just booked the Legend for end of January. So many reasons- love the ports, price, Tampa, etc. So many good reviews, and she will be a week out of drydock according to my PVP. I will be following this thread for months!

Actually the Adult shows weren't too bad. It was funny enough not to notice the language.

I do see that the Legend isn't sailing between Jan. 7th and the 20th. Guess she is getting a big bath!

We had the Aft Cabin on the top Panorama deck. No one could see us and we couldn't see anyone below...all anyone can see is people heads at the railing....there are dividers and extensions side to side....it is pretty private.

Hi there! I was part of the CC group that hung out with Cleavis, KelliKevin, and Boozebabe!

They pretty much answered most of the questions but I was just going to add that we were in room 4136 which is right in the middle of the ship and had a good experience. The "obstructed" view from our room was the lifeboat right outside but we were still able to open the door and get a nice breeze at night. We also didn't really experince much movement in our room, which was nice. I'm thinking it's because we were in the middle of the ship and there's less movement than on the ends of the ship? I don't know much about engineeering and design but it sounds good anyway.

As for the ports of call...

GRAND CAYMAN- We took an island tour of Grand Cayman which was neat. I highly recommend visiting "Hell" in Grand Cayman and mail off a postcard to someone back home. The postcard will be postmarked from "Hell" and it's just apparently the thing to do. It was kind of fun! It's a very small part of the island but it was neat. The turtle farm was nice too. We didn't go to Stingray City but it is THE hottest excursion happening in that port.

COZUMEL- We went shopping in Cozumel so we didn't really do any exciting excursions. I enjoyed shopping but I didn't enjoy being followed around each store by the shopkeepers. They would be about 1 foot behind you while you walked around the store. They are desperate to sell you their goods. Be sure that if you're going to buy something, always barter for a better price. They will usually give it to you. And most of the shops carry the same items so if you don't like the price at one shop, keep going, their neighbor will likely give it to you for much less. They all love to tell you "come in here, we are cheaper than our neighbor". Make them prove it.

BELIZE_ In Belize, we booked an excursion for Snorkeling with Stingrays, Sharks and the Coral Reef. It was awesome. This excursion was NOT booked through the ship. We booked it through Coral Breezes (http://www.coralbreezes.com) and they picked us up after we tendered from the ship to the city. The tender was only about 15 minutes, a very quick ride. The snorkeling excursion actually took us about 45 minutes to a small island Caye Caulker where we snorkeled about a mile from the island. Incredible! The stingrays and sharks were awesome, we even saw a Barracuda. After snorkeling we went back to the island and ate at a small outdoor cafe, very quaint. The food was very nice. We also spent $10 to rent a golf cart to drive around the island for an hour. There's only about 3 roads on the island, they are all sandy but it's a nice, small island and was very easy to get around in the golf cart. Some parts of the island are poor, but overall, the water is beautiful, the atmosphere is awesome, and the snorkeling was excellent.

COSTA MAYA- In Costa Maya, we went to the Cat's Meow and hung out with our CC group. Very nice time relaxing under the tent with tables, all hanging out, getting massages, laying out in the beach chairs. A very nice breeze and a great view of the ocean. If you want to just relax, this is the place to go. Much like Cozumel though, the shopping is the same. Most stores, or in this case, the street is lined with vendors selling the same things. They are bit more annoying in Costa Maya but it's all part of the charm I guess.

Beware of the little children selling bracelets and trinkets for a dollar. The owner of The Cat's Meow told us that the people in the town try to discourage tourists from buying anything from them. She said that most of these children aren't in school and their parents are "pimping" them out basically to sell goods on the street. She said what usually happens after they aren't cute and little anymore is that they usually end up selling drugs when they get to around the age of 12-13 so this is why they discourage the tourists from buying anything from them. Just passing that bit of info along.

I hope whatever excursions or activities you plan that you all have a great time like I did. This was my first cruise and it was an awesome experience. I'd like to think that my CC group that all communicated on the website before we cruised was a big part of my wonderful experience. I would highly recommend finding your roll call or generating one and seeing if you can get a fine group of people together like we did. Some had cruised before, some had not, and everyone had a lot of great tips and stories. We had a really great time getting to know one another in person. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything!

Happy sailing!

Diane:) :) :)

We LOVED Coral Breeze (take the "s" off the above link, and you will find the site) when we first went on their excursion in 2003. That was when the owner (fellow from Boston) was on the tour with you. FREE BELIKIN BEER, and a great lunch. When we went again in 2005 it had gone downhill.

For my review of the cruise (AND CORAL BREEZE) follow this link.

Needless to say, we will never book with Coral Breeze again... If we had NOT seen what it WAS a couple of years prior, perhaps we would not have been so let down with our 2nd trip with them :(

Man I'm confused. I am a Celebrity/Princess girl. I took a carnival cruise in 90 - it was good. Since then I have been pampered & spoiled by Celebrity.

I am tossed between RCCL Explorer out of NJ - so so itin St. thomas, San Juan & Haiti or Legend out of Fla - Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize

Costa Maya.

Opinions?

Thank you for starting this thread.

Do any of you have photos of the teen only area on Legend??? We are currently booked on Glory and the teen area looks amazing but I can't seem to find any photos of the new teen area on Legend. We just got off Miracle and there was no teen area at all and we don't want to cruise again without a dedicated teen area but DD would like to see it.

Thanks

Kim

Tom-

Thanks for the reminder on the web link...my bad. I'm sorry y'all had a bad 2nd experience. I really enjoyed my experience and I have to say that Belize was my favorite port. That's the joy of everyone having different experiences though. It gives others a chance to review all sides of it before making a decision for what they choose as their activities.

Anyway, signing off for now. Happy sailing to those who may be leaving out this weekend.

Diane:)

This was my first cruise, and I will definitely cruise again. The Carnival Legend is a beautiful ship. I was a little concerned about the past posts saying the décor it was over the top. The only thing I found I didn’t like was the paintings on the landings of the stairwells. I felt they should have been more Art Deco like the rest of the ship; they were too modern and loud.

Embarkation was quick and easy. I would definitely suggest getting to the port before 11 am very short lines and you are on the ship with in 45 minutes. J

Our room was really nice. We booked an inside stateroom but got upgraded to an obstructed balcony, in the future I will only book a balcony room. I was afraid the room was going to be cramped, but it wasn’t bad at all. We (my best friend and I) had two large suitcases a piece and still had room in the closest to hang more clothing. Our room was on the fourth floor mid ship behind a life boat. We still got a great sea breeze every night when it was cool enough to sleep with the balcony door open. Beware the crew works on the boat all the time, our first morning we were woken up by a bunch of crew members working on the lifeboats in front of our balcony. Hint: keep the curtains closed so you don’t give them a free show. Our room steward was awesome, any weird request he seem to handle with ease.

Food: As my husband would say I am a bit of a food snob, I found the food in the Truffles Dining Room to be okay. Our first night I order a strip medium rare and received one well done, my head waiter should have picked this up but he didn’t, that was only night he was our waiter also. The rest of the time our head waiter Jose and assistant waiter Hernon were excellent. After the first night of them being our waiter they know that I like to ice tea with a lot of lemon right that it was always waiting for me at the table btw we had a table of twelve no small feat there. I found the chocolate melting cake too sweet for my tastes and I am a chocolate freak. I had a really good chicken dish I think it was charred chicken? Since I can’t eat shellfish because a severe allergy and prefer not to eat fish, I can’t comment on any of the fish dishes, but my table mates seemed to like them. All in all, not much stood out as to "die for" in the dining room. As for the Golden Fleece Supper Club don’t miss the chance!! The food was superb! I think the Porterhouse steak I had, was on a higher level than a Ruth Chris, Morton’s or a NY Prime. The desserts (Chocolate Pate and the Citrus Cheesecake) were a delight, by far the best desserts on board. The service was very good. If I could do it again I would eat twice at the supper club. The coffee bar that you pay for was not as good as a Starbuck’s or Pete’s but was much better than the coffee/ espresso served in the dining room for free.

On board on sea days… supposedly the ship was sold out, however you would never know. I never had a hard time finding a chair right in front of the pool, yes there were “chair hogs” but it really wasn’t a problem. The pool area was clean and very nice. I think it was because school was still in session, and there weren’t a lot of children on board. And the children on board were mostly well behaved, and if they started rough housing in the pool area the security guards quickly put them in their place. The “Vegas” type shows were a bit corny for me. I won’t even start on the dancers….. being in step is what dancing is all about. And the male dancers made me giggle, some of the outfits, wow! The comedy show that I saw was very funny, definitely R rated not because the comic, but because a guest telling two very tasteless jokes, can’t fault the comic for that though. The casino was smoky and a little crowded, but I was happy….. I won $94.50 on the penny slots.

Ports:

Grand Cayman was beautiful, post card perfect. We took a tour of the island for $20pp it stopped at the Turtle Farm, Rum Factory, Hell, and a couple of other places. Our driver Pansy was really informative about the island and how they are still rebuilding from the last hurricane. We did some shopping but found the prices a bit higher than we could find in the states. I wish we had done some snorkeling, after hearing how beautiful the water was. Maybe next time…

Cozumel was a bit dirty; the sales people were pushy, either in your face or following you around like you were going to steal something. Hint: because all the vendors have the exact same thing, you can really get some good deals. You just had to be willing to do some haggling for the price you are willing to pay.

Belize was my favorite port of all. I have to say Belize has some of the most beautiful unspoiled beaches I have ever seen in my life. My parents have been there 3 times in the last four or more years and my dad gave a really good description of the area. He said it is like what the Florida Keys must have been back in the forties when Hemingway first started going down there. Small cottages, quaint restaurants and just the nicest people. We did an independent tour with Coral Breeze/ Hammerhead. Henni, Mark, and Jamal (?) were our guides for the Sting Ray and Shark snorkel tour booked on line for $77 per person with no lunch. Our guides were a very personable and knowledgeable, gave us a lot of interesting facts and information on their country and Cayes (keys). The boat ride to the first drop was breath taking. The colors of the sea ranged from sea glass green to turquoise to indigo an every shade in between. The first dive was in water very clear. We got to see finger, and fan coral in all colors. So many fish, I even got up, close and personal with a barracuda, 5 plus ft Nurse Shark and lots of Sting Rays. Mark even pulled a few of Lobsters up from the floor so cool! After snorkeling for a couple of hours, we went to Caye Caulker for lunch at this great little oceanside “pub”, the food was so good and fresh. This place was not to be missed. We had enough time to rent a golf cart and took a self tour of Caye Caulker. You can tell the people on the island don’t have much but what they have they take pride in. Being two women alone, I felt very safe; I didn’t feel that in any other port except maybe Grand Caymans a little. I actually let my “New Yorker” background guard down and really relaxed. I loved Belize in fact I spoke with my husband about maybe buying some property down there on one of the Cayes.

Costa Maya was an interesting port. The port area it self was kind of gross. A ton of people in a dirty little swim up bar pool needless to say sun, water and alcohol don’t always mix well. The other BIG thing was all the armed police or army men; they were every where with machine guns!!! On roof tops and driving around the fishing village, it didn’t make me feel safe at all. There is not a lot to do right there and the people who “sell” tours try to mislead the tourists into thinking that you can’t do anything outside the port with out them. They charge about 5 times as much for the same thing we did for $5 in cab fare. After reading all the posts about Cat’s Meow and nice it was we decided to do that. If you get off the boat in Costa Maya please do this. It was so relaxing and a great way to spend the last day in a port. I just sat under a tent had a coke or two and some chips and salsa. I snorkeled out really far from the beach and was only up to my waist in water. The water isn’t as pretty as Belize but it was still very nice. The $20 massages were very nice.

Disembarkation was quick and easy also. We found our bags no problem and had the Hertz people hold them for a couple of hours so we could walk around and shop.

Sorry this was so long but I wanted to gave as much detail as possible. If you have any questions please post them on the Legend 05/06/07 board to Melissa.

We had different waiters the first night?? I didn't even notice! I wonder why... I miss Jose and Hernon!!!

Great reviews Melissa and Diane. I'm going to agree with Diane that having a great roll call group really added to our experience. We had a lot of fun with you guys!!

As far as the temperature on the boat is concerned I'm going to have to disagree with the others. I was freezing half the time! Especially in the casino. Fortunately I was having way too much fun to care! I envy all of you that are going on the Legend soon. You will have a wonderful time.

I was also a part of the CC group with Cleavis, KelliKevin, Boozebabe,Biza et al; I found that a light summer sweater at a department store the day before we left it was a crochet type and it came in handy on a couple of evenings. I also, had a light scraf that doubled as a wrap with my formal night so that helped too! I go back and forth with temps though, our cabin seemed too warm. If I adjusted the thermostat it was freezing, no in between there.

I had a Lime and Ginger Scrub and basic massage in the Spa which was really nice and relaxing. Price was as to be expected, but I have also had a massage at a resort that cost more.

I also had a nail emergency that the Spa helped me with, the nail tech was off duty and eating her dinner but came back to help. A very expensive manicure at $50 but ,my acrylic nails were melting and had turned in to goo and it was the second formal night. She repaired them and I can say my photos did not look too bad.

All in all I totally agree with the others from our group it was a wonderful cruise and I am ready to go back. The Legend was a beautiful ship to me.

Cindy
