Anyone have a recommandation on a hotel close to the dock in San Pedro? We will be flying in the night prior to our departure and are looking for a decent hotel with reasonable rates.

We elected to spend our pre-cruise day in Long Beach, in the area called The Pike. Hotels, restaurants, shopping -- great place to see. The cab ride from the Hyatt to the ship was about $10 or $12, just a few minutes. San Pedro is more of an industrial area.

We just stayed last week at the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro. It was really nice and had great amenties. They had a really nice continental breakfast for us served right in a common room on our floor. They had a free shuttle that goes back and forth to the pier, and also they took us for free to DelAmo mall which is at least a 20 minute ride. We were within walking distance of some good restaurants, some of the people in our group went to an English pub and we walked down to Acapulco and the food and drinks were fantastic.

Keep in mind - there is nothing to do or see in San Pedro. We stayed in Best Western - cheap and clean. They have free shuttle to the pier. If you decided to stay there, walk across the street, take a right about half a mile is about 10 seafood restaurants. Food is simple, not fancy, but absolutely fantastic.

We have just stayed overnight in the Crowne Plaza, positionally perfect but the shuttle service was poorly organised. We arrived late and there were no facilities in reception for a drink - no coffee left and there is no bar in this hotel so we put our bags in our room and went in search of a nearby establishment - excellent - on the doorstep a restauarant / bar where we had drinks and snacks. When we entered our room - it was beautiful but no creamer for the coffee.

Before our recent Hawaii cruise we drove to L.A. the evening before and stayed at the Sunrise Best Western in San Pedro for $101 a night (that was the AAA rate). This included a decent continental breakfast on-site and we had dinner that evening at "The Grinder" right next door, an unpretentious but excellent little restaurant. Since we drove with friends, they left their car at the Best Western for the 15 days and paid, I believe, an extra $100 for that. The hotel shuttle took us to the pier free of charge (it's less than a mile) and also picked us up the minute we disembarked. Great way to go!:)

We haven't done it yet (sailing on July 2nd), but the Crowne Plaza has "Park and Sail" Packages. We got a rate of $179 for a room with double beds and 15 days parking...The pier parking works out to $1 more (excluding taxes)!

Cheers!

I stayed at the Doubletree and will stay there again in December. Wonderful "sweet dreams" beds and pillows, free computer use with internet service in the lobby, homemade warm, chocolate chip cookies at check-in, and free shuttle service to pier. Also nice hot and cold appetizers served in the lobby in the evening.

I agree, for something inexpensive and close, Best Western is it.

Ah, but Best Western isn't it - there isn't one any more - it's Sunrise (we drove right past it the first time as the Best Western sign was covered). They still have shuttles to the pier, and a good restaurant right next door. Nancy

We are staying at Crowne Plaza, San Pedro, night of Aug 30, pre cruise. It was a Sheraton hotel at one time and supposed to be good. Only need a clean bed, feed, beer and nice shower, not in that order.!! Thence the next day boarding Regal on her epic last trip to Sydney.!!

If you do decide to stay in San Pedro there is a place to go called Ports O Call. There is a great restaurant/fish market where you pick out your own fish and they cook it up for you and then you can eat out on a huge deck on the water where the ships come in. There are also some cool shops to visit. I was there not too long ago and it was something to do in San Pedro. As far as a place to stay, can't help you. we stayed at the Best Western in Long Beach and they had a free shuttle. They did however go to the wrong pier to pick us up so we had to call and wait and let them know, San Pedro, not Long Beach. But it all worked out and they let us leave our car for free and we had a great room and it was very reasonable.:) Kris

Try the Hyatt Long Beach and ask for a room overlooking the harbour. Beautiful! We are seniors and had a similar room for $140 US. Wonderful hotel in my view, 10 minutes from the Long Beach airport, and another 10 minutes to the ship. Check it out online.

For at least 6 cruises, we have stayed at the (now named) Crowne Plaza Hotel, 601 S Palos Verdes, San Pedro, 310-519-8200. The hotel was recently remodeled, is 5 minutes from the World Cruise Terminal in San Pedro. They have a free shuttle service that runs every 15 minutes approximately from the hotel to the terminal. They also recommended an excellent limo driver with his own car (name is Richard of Richard's Limousine) who picked us up at the airport (he goes to both LAX and Long Beach). His dark green Lincoln limo is super clean, he was extremely reliable and reasonable. The bell desk can give you his number. I have recommended him to other friends who have been equally pleased. He will pick you up at the terminal at the end of the cruise and take you to the airport if you want to avoid the cruise ship bus transportation. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the Crowne Plaza. Friends have also stayed at the Holiday Inn, but, although it is just a few blocks inland, the area is kind of questionable in my opinion. Crowne Plaza is very used to having cruise ship passengers.

We won this hotel on Priceline for $58 (coming up in December.) Glad to hear that you liked it. May do the same for Monarch cruise that I will be booking for next March too.
