Is There a Way To Determine If a Group Is Booked On Your Cruise

Hi Folks!

After reading 12 very informative pages here, I decided to consolidate all of the websites onto 1 page and added 1 or 2 other options.

I put it on our personal travel journal website for our future reference and of course anyone else that wants to see it.

If you would like to view it there...

go to the link below and then into Karen's Cruise Corner!

I see from the list of events of HAL cruiseships that we have "Cardiology Update" on our Rotterdam cruise on 31st May. Has anyone come across this group. I am assuming (hopefully correctly) that they will be a small group and no impinge too much on the cruise.

Most (all?) of the groups with names similar to this are seminars for doctors. The group will generally be small, around 100 or so, and you most likely would not have noticed them without seeing the list.

Rich, I just discovered that Elderhostel has group space on several HAL South America itineraries on the Amsterdam (March/09) and the Veendam (Nov/Dec 09). They have a full program of activities for port & sea days.

Any idea of the size of a typical Elderhostel group? Would they have any tangible impact on regular guests on these sailings?

From their website

The ship can carry 1200 passengers, of whom approxiately 48 are Elderhostel particpants. All cabins have air-conditioning and private bathrooms with shower.

I just found out that the Philadelphia Eagles Fan Club and some players are booked on the same cruise as we are. Does anyone have experience with this type of group?? I have heard they can be a rowdy group at the games. I guess I should leave my Carolina Panthers gear at home. ;)

My best guess is Mike owns a travel agency and is escorting a small group cruise of prior clients.

It's very common for groups of any size to arrange their own shore excursions. Where did you see this?

Hammy - that group is listed on shoretrips, so it was listed on my list. Shoretrips lists the private excursions, and nothing else. I would also guess that it is a TA group, but I have no way of knowing.

On our recent Eurodam cruise, I asked the future cruise consultants how to find out whether there was a large group on a future cruise. I had been disturbed by the posts about the National Review group on an earlier cruise and had personal experience with being surprised by a religious organization on a cruise several years ago (taking up more then 50% of the cabins). The consultant said we could call the group services desk at HAL and they are required to tell us if any large groups will be aboard.

The consultant is not correct. The Group Administration department at HAL is not required to advise you if a group a large group is booked on that departure.

Cruise lines do not disclose the identity /size of onboard groups.

Most large groups have an internet presence which is the source of most of the groups being tracked by Richwm.

No doubt they will be a rowdy group...I've never been to a football game where the crowd didn't get rowdy. :p

Regarding your Panthers gear...you'd be much safer wearing that than I would wearing my Cowboys gear. :D

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 21 (Reuters) - Canadian police have struck a C$76 million ($61 million) deal with two units of cruise line operator Carnival Corp (CCL.N) to house security personnel during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Carnival's Holland America and Carnival Cruise Lines units will supply a total of three ships to serve as floating hotels in Vancouver harbor during the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, according to police officials.

Late last month as I was "cruising" for cruises I found the best itinerary yet. :D The Statendam 14 day Southern Caribbean. Ports included Half Moon Cay, Tortola, St Barts, Martinique, Grenada, Barbados, Aruba, Bonaire, & Curacao. The dates offered were 1/29/10 & 2/26/10. I wrote down the itinerary, the dates, the fares, as well as available cabins.

After discussing this for a day or two with my DH, we decided on the February date and went back on line to book.

I couldn't find these cruises anywhere??? I called Holland America and told the agent that I felt I was in the Twilight Zone. I knew these cruises exsisted, but couldn't find them again.

After she sung the Twilight Zone theme song to me, she told me the January, 29th cruise was charted, and the February 26th cruise was rerouted elsewhere.

I don't see any cruises listed for the Statendam for January and February. December 21st, she is doing a repositioning, Ft. Lauderdale to San Diego.

I wonder where she'll be in Jan & Feb? I'm guessing, Vancouver?

I am bringing this back up to the top to mention a couple of thing, prompted by this thread - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=995081

Every now and then, not on a regular schedule, I take a couple of hours and search for possible groups and charters. When I find them, I add them to the database. At this time I really don't do any checking for inconsistencies - hoping that will be pointed out by people on that cruise.

For those that find charters or groups - it is easier for me if I get the information via email. I visit Cruise Critics regularly, and generally see any thread with group or charter in the title, but could easily miss one.

BTW - any comments on the changes I made several weeks ago?

Forget my other post -- RSVP booked the Feb 21 Eurodam -- person gave me the wrong date.

See that it is on your list.

I don't believe RSVP belongs on this list...it is not a "group cruise", as they book the whole ship for their trips.

Roz,

thanks I thought since this is a charter whole ship, it probably does not belong on the list since the purpose of the thread is

"The issue really pertains to large groups where there is a possibility that the group might intrude on the enjoyment of the cruise by individual passengers, not to non-intrusive smaller groups."

There are no other groups but RSVP on these trips.
