Minybear Posted April 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I have secured 2 separate reservations at the Pan Pacific (pre-cruise package) and one at the Renaissance Hotel (with dinner included)coming in the day prior to our cruise on 8/27. I cannot decide which one to keep. Please help me decide. I need your opinions, please. Jeano222 Posted April 27, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Pan pacific is an extremely nice hotel located right at the Vancouver cruise terminal [Canada Place] We stayed there in September 2001 and it was awesome. They offer entertainment rates there and I had called last month to see if our dates were out yet, they were not but they did tell me that when they are released it will be 270.00 plus tax CAD. Fairmont Waterfront is directly across the street and they are offering rates of 189.00 night plus tax USD. I can't answer for your other hotel choice as I have never stayed there. BEAV Posted April 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2004 We haven't stayed at the Renaissance, but enjoyed two WONDERFUL pre-cruise nights at the Pan Pacific. Can't go wrong with it! grouchy Posted April 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I would go for The Pan Pacific-ask for an ocean view and you can watch the cruise ships sail. Time for another Cruise!
Rare Coral Posted April 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2004 They are entirely 2 different types of hotels - the Pan Pacific is a 5 star hotel and the Renaissance is a 3 star hotel. Given a choice, I would stay at Pan Pacific. Though I have stayed at Renaissance (just a few blocks from Pan Pacific) and it was a very friendly and clean hotel. Italy52 Posted April 27, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Jeano222 with regard to the Pan Pacific, you mentioned entertainment rates. What are entertainment rates? Also, how far in advance did you make your reservations at the Pan Pacific for your August cruise? I am starting my research for our Alaska cruise next year. We will be celebrating our 25th and after seeing what Pan Pacific had to offer, we are thinking about booking the hotel for two nights pre-cruise. We thought it would be a wonderful way to kick-off our anniversary cruise.
Boo's Mom Posted April 27, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Italy52..... The Pan Pacific advertises in the Entertainment Book. www.entertainment.com However, they offer a few rooms discounted..for the purpose of being able to advertise. I called for the Pan 6-8 months out...for summer 04...and the "special rates" were already unavailable. The entertainment book is awesome, though. Boo's Mom Even the winds and the waves obey him! cfs Posted April 27, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 27, 2004 You may want to call Hello BC, the BC tourist organization. They offer very good discounted rates to a variety of hotels. Their # is 800-HELLOBC. Good luck.
Minybear Posted April 27, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Thanks everyone for helping me with this. Looks like I will keep the Pan Pacific and cancel the Renasissance. I didn't realize that the Renaissance was a 3 star. I booked both resevations one year in advance and the advertised rate on the web site is the same thing I am getting today. Thanks again for everyone's help. Cindy 08/28/04 HAL ZAANDAM Alaska 01/24/04 DCL MAGIC Eastern 01/26/03 DCL WONDER Eastern
windermere Posted April 27, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Hi there, You will not be sorry for going with the Pan Pacfic. It is so nice to stay there and watch the ships sail in & out. The bellmen will also take you bags for you to the ship so next time you see your luggage it will be in your stateroom We always stay at the P.P. when we depart from Vancouver. You will love it. Have fun. HarleyCT Posted April 28, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 28, 2004 Does anyone know a average range for the Pan Pacific if you don't get a discount? What would an average joe off the street pay???
Minybear Posted April 28, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted April 28, 2004 I wish we were getting a discount for this room. Where are discounts when you need them. Our room cost us $449 CAD (USA 338.83 w/o tax). 08/28/04 HAL ZAANDAM Alaska 01/24/04 DCL MAGIC Eastern 01/26/03 DCL WONDER Eastern
55HudsonMet Posted April 28, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 28, 2004 We booked our room at the Pan Pacific through hellobc.com. This is the website for Tourism British Columbia. We are staying the night of May 29th prior to getting on the Serenade of the Seas. Our cost for a harbour view room is $229CAD which converts to $166.45US before taxes. The city view rooms are $199CAD / $144.65US. These prices are about $100 less that the cheapest rate on the PanPacific website. It might be worth a look if you are interested in staying there. I checked and the rate is still available for the night we are staying. Good luck... CaribbeanCrazy Posted April 28, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 28, 2004 In the Princess/Alaska brochure on page 73, it shows that you can get the Pan Pacific hotel for 129.00 for 1 night or 239.00 for two nights. If anyone is going on Princess...this sounds like a pretty good deal. Italy52 Posted April 28, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 28, 2004 CaribbeanCrazy Are you packed yet? How I envy you. The prices quoted in the Princess brochure are per person. Page 72 of the brochure clarifies all the hotel arrangements. I wish the prices quotes were that cheap. I got burned once on the cruise package, didn't see the per person info. I've learned my lesson and now make my own arrangements. Much cheaper! DH decided that we needed to book our cruise now because he has to submit his next year vacation plans. RCCL and Carnival were the only cruise lines with information posted for 2005 cruises, we decided to go with RCCL's Radiance of the Sea August 20th sailing. We will definitely be staying at the Pan Pacific either pre-cruise or post-cruise. Doing research now in hopes of alleviating frustration further down the road. Although we are not going on Princess this year, looking forward to hearing all about your trip. Perhaps we will revisit Alaska again on Princess. Enjoy! Italy52 Posted April 28, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 28, 2004 55HudsonMet THANK YOU SO MUCH for the hyperlink on the hotels. I have been doing a lot of research on the Pan Pacific and found noting as cheap as your site. Is this organization reliable? Reason I ask, I have read where people have made hotel reservations with hotel discounters and when they arrived at the hotel, somehow the reservation was non existent. Love to hear your thoughts or anyone elses regarding the reliability of this site. Again, thank you so much for bringing it to our attention. 55HudsonMet Posted April 28, 2004 #20 Share Posted April 28, 2004 You scared me with your post, so I called the Pan Pacific directly and they do have my reservation. I would not consider Hello BC as a discounter. It the website for Tourism British Columbia which appears to be part of the provincial government there. Perhaps one of the Vancouver regulars can confirm this. Good luck, and I hope they have availibilty for your dates.
