If you could change one thing about RCI...

No Smoking In Any Public Area

Amen. I'm sorry to the smokers. I'm not trying to be punitive to you, but the problem is that smoking is not just a simple personal choice; it affects everyone around you when you choose to smoke. Once you smoke, you pollute the environment around you. Since my DW is allergic to smoke, if I'm around someone smoking, I have to shower and change clothes as soon as I get back to my cabin or the smoke in my clothing and/or hair will cause her to have a reaction. Smoke from certain places on the ship prevents her from even being *IN* the area and makes it very cumbersome for me to be in the area. You can come and go, by choice, in any area of the ship, but once there is smoke, we cannot. There become certain services and locations which become medically off-limits to us.

We are fortunate to live in MD where now, there is no smoking in indoor public facilities and restaurants. There are fewer places that are off-limit to us. I just wish that cruise ships also limited smoking to outdoor decks.

Our vote would be for lower internet prices for sure as we are cruising more and need to keep in touch with less than healthy parents and children left behind

Also for a couple of ships in the fleet to be non smoking. I know it was tried by that other line and failed but I really think RCCI could make it work, especially if the right itineraries are chosen and changed relatively frequently. The problem with that other line was that they had only one itinerary and it's the one itinerary that any cruiser has already done.

What hurt the non smoking ship is that group sales were not good and also the bar and casino revenue was lower on the Paradise than any other ship in the Carnival fleet. Carnival actually had alternating eastern and western itineraries for the Paradise and even did some longer routes from time to time. It would be nice but I don't see it happening with RCI.

Did a cruise on HAL last month. There was decadent chocolate served with every meal. When we were on Serenade, it was mysteriously missing most of the time from the menu. MORE CHOCOLATE....lots of CHOCOLATE!!!

Anytime dining. I hate being told when to eat and with whom.

in my opinion, anytime dining DOES exist on RCCL fleet.. you have the option of 24/7 room service and windjammer anytime at your conveinence up to closing at 9 pm, then if you still need or want a late snack, the solarium or promonade cafe is always open 24/7 for burgers, hot dogs, fries and pizza. (as is room service with an extended menu)

you can also order off the dining room menu for a great tasty alternative in your cabin if you like to eat on the bed watching Tv or on the balcony. We use the wheelie transport cart they bring as our table since space is at a premium. Fits well between the beds and you can sit in the bed and have a nice table to use. You can also order drinks for room service, though it is so much faster to just get them and bring them back to the cabin. And if you are brave like me, pack a bottle of something in ChECKED luggage ONLY.. we have NEVER had a problem getting all our items to the cabin. we do use TSA locks as well. Keep in mind that each and every glass you are served in becomes your property.. you bought it with the drink.. I see tons of glasses all over the pooldeck and elsewhere because I am certain many do not know this. The sad part is they will rewash and resell same said glass:eek: The first time I kept a glass I fely guilty because I thought I would be stealing it :eek: cabin steward will bring you nice packing boxes and tissue paper upon request to pack them nice to get them home. And

exception is the glasses from the DR.. you cannot keep those. and room service you are not supposed to keep those either. I have so many now, I either give them away to our table mates or ask for the drink in a regular plastic cup (4.95) in reg cup

Next tip: If you are a rum drinker, or anything else for that matter whenit comes to a mixed drink.. DO NOT BE SHY TO ASK FOR A DOUBLE SHOT they will gladly accomodate teh rewuest and at no additional charge.. Now THAT is the way to get a buzz.. why buy 2 drinks when yu can get a double at no extra cost??

Hope these tips help someone outthere in cyberland :):D

I would love it if RCI would offer a 10-day cruise out of Florida to the southern caribbean. That's the only thing that's making me think of possibly doing a Princess cruise. Don't know why, but I'd rather do that than fly to San Juan and do a 7-day. Guess I just like the extra sea-days. Would also love to see more opportunities for full-transit (or whatever they're called) Panama Canal cruises.

Okay' date=' you lost me here . . . I guess I missed the drama somehow.

Anyway, my wish would be to help the dining room live up to its potential. Take some food tips from their sister line (Celebrity), and enforce the dress code.

He's saying that he doesn't buy my sob story about DW's allergies to smoke. That's his problem. Fortunately for us, the state of MD is moving in the right direction in limiting the number of public venues where smoking indoors is allowed. It makes our lives easier. I would love it if the cruise industry also moved that direction.

I just wish RC Customer Service was consistent with the answers they provide customers...........everything else makes RC the product they are which is why we sail them..........:) but it would be nice if you could call three service reps and get the same answer...........at least one time.:D

We had read about the 1AM curfew prior to our cruise last week on the Mariner but were never able to find it printed on the daily compasses or the 15-17 year old compasses. We did impose the 1AM curfew on our som but I wish Fuel would have closed at 1AM instead of going much later everynight. A little consistency from RCL would help.

I never saw it anywhere either. It doesn't make sense that Fuel would be open PAST curfew!!

Hey, the rate I paid for Internet service on the JOS was significantly better than what was offered on the Carnival Destiny this past week. The Carnival Destiny was so bad for in-cabin service that I didn't bother...I just walked down to the Internet cafe for service. That was really nasty since the Internet Cafe was right next to the Onyx bar and the bartenders and waiters use the end of the bar that was adjacent to the Internet cafe as their little smoking patio and the smoke constantly wafted into the Internet Cafe. But the alternative would have cost me about $100 more than what I did pay. Nasty!

I can relate to the slow internet. I was trying desperately to get on one day (we found out that two of my son's friends were killed in a car wreck), and never got connected to our local paper's site - though I certainly was billed for it!

If they did this, they would lose me (and many others, I'm sure) as a customer.

What is the big deal? Princess has BOTH anytime dining and traditional. Why couldn't RCI do the same, that way everybody is happy. I can't believe your knee-jerk reaction is to say you would change lines if they offered something that might suit others.

I was reading on the Princess boards that there is a HUGE waitlist for traditional dining. From what I’ve read, and I have not read all, it seems they are not happy cruisers. Princess gives out those little pagers you get in restaurants because there are long waits for tables.

Why in heaven's name would I want to do laundry and ironing?? I am ON VACATION! Same as I do not want to cook or do dishes!! I am ON VACATION!!!!

Self service laundry facilities may not be important to you but why not give those of us who find them convenient the option to use them if we choose. As someone who prefers longer cruises such as transatlantic's self service laundry facilities would be invaluable for us. Not only would it cut down on the amount of clothing we would have to bring but it would also save us a lot of money as well. Which is the exact reason why Royal will never add them to their ships. Money. We used the laundry facilities on NCL late at night (before going to bed) so it didn't take any time away from our other ship board activities. Plus no one is in there at that hour, so no waiting. This would be the one thing I would change about Royal Caribbean.

Keep kids out of the adults only Solarium and hot tubs and allow us to bring a couple bottles of wine onboard.

I forgot about the Solarium. I agree 100%. Rules should be enforced otherwise they're meaningless.

No need to be nasty. My reaction happens to be very well-thought-out.

In theory, this sounds wonderful, but it doesn't always work so smoothly. We tried to book a Princess cruise and traditional dining was all booked up, so we would have been stuck with anytime - they allocate only a certain number of "spots" for traditional and the number of people who want traditional often exceeds the number that can be accomodated.

And as the other poster pointed out, when cruising during busy weeks, there is often a LONG wait for anytime restaurants.

Not all Princess customers are happy with this duel arrangement, and I wouldn't be happy if RCI switched to it. I happen to like the more elegant atmosphere aboard a ship that has traditional dining. I also feel that traditional dining begets more attentive service overall. That's why I'd switch cruiselines - RCI would lose something that's important to me if it went they way of Princess, and that is a very big deal.

For those that want anytime dining, there's always the Windjammer or specialty restaurants. Or choose NCL and Princess, but leave RCI's dining arrangement alone.

RCI has anytime dining...it's called the Windjammer.

And I know many people who actually prefer eating dinner in the Windjammer verses the main dining room. Royal offers quite a varied selection of food in the Windjammer in the evening. Also on the Radiance Class ships you have the Seaview Cafe which is another dining option.
