I STILL say, if you want a REALLY formal dinner, then spend the extra money and have dinner in the dinner club... its the ONLY way to insure you'll keep out the riff raff. Nick and Nora's on the Miracle is a wonderful dinner club...

And to those who say they spent a bundle on their cruise... come on, give me a break. A CRUISE is a cheap vacation... believe me, I have been on expensive vacations and the reason I cruise with Carnival is cus its a cheap vacation!!!!! If you want an expensive vacation, try Monte Carlo and Nice France... or maybe Baden Baden, Germany... then those will cost you a bundle. And when going to the casino in Monte Carlo, YES, you must dress to impress there.

I guess that would depend on how many people you are paying for....

Heading out in 17 days and taking the family... there are 5 of us and YES, I payed for 2 cabins.... now of course, they get to pay for their own trinkets.. But still... it was less the $5,000 for the 5 of us to sail... so I see that as cheap family vacation.

I wish I could say I paid that much for 2 balcony cabins with airfare for 4 :D :p

Some people on here save all year to spend that kind of money on vacation for their family.....so yeah it would be alot to them.

You nor I are prevy to others income on here.....so I would never question the amount one pays for is cheap or expensive......

Dang Dude, then I got a good deal :) Ohhh... and I am not paying for airfare on this trip... leaving from the home port.

I agree with you on that... and yes, some people do save all year for a vacation... but I don't think that should give them the right to dictate how others should dress. This why I am all for using the dinner clubs if thats what people want... if they really want to feel pampered then spend the extra $25-$30 and do it up right.

Huh? I've NEVER seen it enforced.

Please explain!

On every cruise we have been on everyone is dressed in formal attire according to the cruiselines dress code.......

Oh I take that back....last December on the Valor there was a couple not dressed on formal night. We did meet that couple earlier and thier luggge was lost. Never received it at all....

Now how do I notice the formal attire you ask.....during photo shoots. Once in the dining room I focus on family and friends....

I am for formal nights.. YES, and we do dress up.. however, on the other nights, I really dont feel like wearing PANTS.. shorts are more my style... kinda like Charlie Sheen on the show 2-1/2 men... I think thats perfectly fine for dinner attire the rest of the times.. I want to be able to eat the same food, without having to dress in bizz casual.

I want SHORTS in the dinning room!!!!! :D:D

Agreed. Nothing gives them that right:) It's totally up to the cruiseline....

What cracks me up is you hear them bitching and moaning about what others are wearing over and over...yet they still keep sailing with the same cruise line LOL! God if it bothered me that much I sure would not stay with the same line.....

That is the absolute truth... why stay with the cruise line if its NOT what you want?? To Me, Carnival fits exactly what I am looking for... a more relaxed easy vacation, where someone else does all the stuff... and all I have to do is sit by the pool and watch the kids play... mine are now in there late teens, so they don't even do that.

I voted no, but could have used an alternative answer. I think people should dress up a little (like nice shirt/top and slacks/skirt or something). I don't think people should go to the dining room with swimming suits or that type of attire. But I don't think a person should have to dress up in formal attire to eat the nicer food in the dining room at night. I think resort casual is all that should be required. If you want to dress up in gowns, tuxes and the like, nobody would or should stop you. It's everyone's vacation and eventhough we may not all agree on the dress code, everyone should be allowed to experience the fancier dining room food that we paid for.:)

I must preface this by saying that Dh and I and all of our family who have cruised with us in the past have always followed the suggested dress codes for each cruise line.

However I voted no.

I agree with all who have said that no one else's attire can possibly influence my enjoyment of a cruise unless they are naked and sitting on me.

Additionally it is absolutely none of my business why the Yokums or the Rockafellers decided to dress the way they did.

And finally there may be an unseen reason why someone cannot/will not dress in "formal attire".

For instance misplaced luggage, or in the case of my upcoming cruise a very ill person whose comfort is much more important to me than anyone else's misbegotten idea of "their" perfect cruise.

DH will most likely NOT dress formally on his last cruise but I am sure he will enjoy spending formal night in the dining room with his loved ones, and if that offends anyone then too bad. Believe me I never say that but in that circumstance I could think of nothing else appropriate.

Agreed. Unless everyone had a magic mirror, or were mind readers....no one else can possibly know why others wear what they wear.....

Another cc member stated she wore her little rubber flip flops that she would not normally wear because of a back injury and could not wear shoes with a heel. Now how could we possibly know this? But some would judge....

Happy cruising Mamaskittles! And prayers for hubby.....

If it was our so called current Govt. I would say don't tell me what to do as I abide by OUR Constitution and so should you(By the People For the People) but since this is about a rule that is layed down (by Carnival)that everyone that pay's attention should know about. I say the rule is the rule come dressed as requested or dine in your cabin or on the Lido deck.

Yes! Everyone of us paid for a cruise that includes at least two formal nights on a 7 day or longer cruise. My expectation is that those nights will be formal, not come as you please.

I voted yes, but only because if it is a rule then it should be followed. However, some people's circumstances may prevent them from following the rules therefore those situations should be on a case by case basis. For example, I broke a small bone in my foot into 3 pieces. I was attending a wedding so I had my foot in a cast, crutches, but I still wore a dress and one heel. Then when my good foot started to hurt, I placed a lower, more flat shoe on it. I had a pedicure so my toes looked very cute too. So all I am saying is if you have some sort of problem that precludes you from dressing accordingly then fine, but the rest of the people should follow the rules.

BTW Kurban I now see my twins, both pictures of the beagle. Too tired to fix it though. Not sure why I am seeing it now, whatever. ;)

A possible solution for those that refuse or don't want to dress but still want the same dinner as served in the dining room. Like some other mainstream lines, maybe Carnival should allow ordering from the dining room dinner menue through room service. I've done it when not feeling well.

Problem solved.

I wish....That's one of the things we will doing on our Princess cruise. Ordering hot food from room service to eat out on our balcony:)

That's really great when you have a port intensive cruise.....
