DUTRAVEL Posted May 26, 2016 #17001 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Hi all we just recently got back from our 1st cruise with our service dog Naini on board the Celebrity Solstice to Alaska. All went well. The crew treated her like a princess. Naini is a cutie pie! We will be taking my service dog on her first cruise in October to Panama and then we will be on the Solstice to Alaska in May. Good to know about the relief box issues ahead of time. Dianne
wizard-of-roz Posted May 26, 2016 Author #17002 Share Posted May 26, 2016 Naini has a great smile! She must have had fun - spent a lot of time in the bar and casino, I noticed! She's a beauty. So glad Celebrity treated you both well. We'll be back on board Eclipse in December. Their relief box seems to be like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates - never know what you're going to get. The box on our December cruise on Reflection was filled with sawdust and shavings intended for rabbit or hamster cages, and it blew all over the crew area. Our room steward had mulch brought aboard half-way through. Since they have the green grass up top on Solstice-class ships, I always wonder why they don't just grow some extra for sod. Or provide mulch, as their info says they will. Seems like their crew has to improvise to come up with filler. Where is Naini's next adventure? A kazillion pages back on this thread is yet another story from "Roz"......how onboard one of our cruises the bedding for the box was so bad that while in San Diego two crew members went off the ship [with a bucket and shovel] and dug up some dirt under a tree across from the dock [i only know this because I saw it first hand, as did about a thousand other passengers.] It was the talk of the cruise. They brought back the bucket of dirt and spread it into the box. Immediately passengers started using it for an ash tray! Brenda stepped on a lit cigarette, burnt her paw and we were given a free cruise [in the future!] So many stories to tell and not enough time to tell them all! Dianne Because there's just so much inconsistency with the filler in the box. I will be bringing a roll of artificial turf to cover whatever they choose to put in the box and I'll possibly just leave it behind, on my next cruise which is 19 days. Horton loves the fake stuff and it stays nice for a very long time, even when it's exposed to the elements!
rnjmiller Posted May 27, 2016 #17004 Share Posted May 27, 2016 Thank you everyone Naini really did seem to enjoy her cruise. It was exhausting for her since she usually doesn't have to work as much during the day. But she loved the attention from the passengers and crew. We did bring a piece of artificial turf and left it when we left. Our problem was we trained her with mulch and then the turf on top. She was missing the smell of the mulch. We took her down the wind tunnel several times the first day trying to convince her it was ok to go. She finally gave in after about 9 hours. It took her until the second evening before bed to finally go number 2. After that she figured she would wait til we went into port on real grass. So she only did that twice on the ship the whole trip. I am sure she will be more prepared next time. Currently Naini is in Yellowstone, tomorrow we head to the Grand Tetons and then off to Mt Rushmore.

Krypti Posted May 27, 2016 #17006 Share Posted May 27, 2016 I just got done with a day trip around Northern Arizona with a friend of mine, my senior service dog, and my service puppy in training. We had a blast! Lots of photos here: https://www.facebook.com/kara.braden.9/posts/467337100144237?pnref=story Today, Bucky the service puppy was so exhausted, he just crashed while we were getting breakfast! So far, his training is going slowly, but he's the CALMEST puppy I've ever seen. He gets a little scared of new things (which is why we're focusing on socializing) but he's otherwise rock-steady and beautifully well-behaved anywhere we go in public. Restaurants, grocery stores, you name it!
Macfreckles Posted May 29, 2016 #17007 Share Posted May 29, 2016 I tried to add my dog with my and my fiancé's cruise with Carnival last Dec but the agent I booked it with was relunctant to do so. We've been asked on another Carnival cruise for Nov 2017 & this time I want to bring her along. Is there a number or email contact at Carnival so I can make this process smoother? We've been asked on another Carnival cruise for Nov 2017 & this time I want to bring her along. Is there a number or email contact at Carnival so I can make this process smoother? Sure, just Google Carnival Cruises Service Dog and you'll find a page on their website with both phone and email contact info for the Special Needs department and guests traveling with disabilities. What reason did the agent give for his or her reluctance to add your service dog to your booking record? Even when he or she has done so, you still must contact the cruiseline yourself well in advance of sailing. Also you'll need to obtain the permits to export the animal from the US to foreign countries on your itinerary, so talk to your vet about those requirements. fairbourne Posted May 30, 2016 #17013 Share Posted May 30, 2016 Rangeley - oh my dawg, the poor bride, what a mess that car is in and she's so lucky to come out of that. But my goodness what beautiful photos of the wedding with all of you, looks like you had a fabulous time (and deservedly so after all the dramas pre-wedding!) ... You all look lovely but can I say Wexler just steals the show for me! Thanks for sharing your family and their special day with us.

This marriage is meant to be, because nothing life threw at them could get in the way of it happening. The substitute venue looks gorgeous, so maybe that was meant to be, too. Wexler looks bigger than the cute little ring bearer, and quite dapper in his tux. Looking forward to more photos!

I was interested in her name, too. A close friend who competes with and trains her poodles has one named Nani, which I think means "pretty girl" in Hawaiian (the husband grew up there.) She was originally named Nina by the breeder, but they switched the vowels. Your girl is certainly pretty! wizard-of-roz Posted May 31, 2016 Author #17020 Share Posted May 31, 2016 Holly I am so sorry to hear about Bear, its never easy losing a beloved member of your family. Congrats on getting Jagger full-time! Cindy I am glad that you were able to find an alternate venue so quickly. I am sure that it will be a beautiful wedding. The best thing that I ever did was rip up all of the carpeting in my house. Luckily we had hardwood floors underneath. It was a thing in the late 1960's to cover up the hardwood with carpet. So much easier to take care of especially when you have animals. Henri celebrated her 3rd birthday on Saturday. We took her to Muir Woods for a hike. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all of my life and have never been to Muir Woods or Alcatraz. I guess Alcatraz is next on the list. Henri at Lake Tahoe this past week. Such a beautiful girl!!!!! I'm so glad to see that you're totally enjoying her!

thephantomsgirl Posted May 31, 2016 #17023 Share Posted May 31, 2016 Wow, they sure faced way too much drama before the wedding - but oh, what wonderful photos! Wexler looks like a rock star. Love all the other photos of the dogs - Henri, Naini, and Bucky! Jagger and I are doing well. We did a St. John's River boat cruise on Saturday. He did very well, except we have to work a little harder on steps. He's done well so far, but the distance from the boat to the step was more than he was used to and he didn't do a wait. Oh well, something to work on harder. Then yesterday we went out to the Ranch for a cook out and he got to play with all his friends. Came back one very tired dog. :) Holly
