No actually you can get $850 - one EACH of 100, 250 and 500 certificates. But, if you have enough points you can still use the certificates if you want AND redeem cash for however much you can get

with the points you have left. It is, however, easier and wiser to not use the OBC and certificates and put it all your M/C to earn more points, then transfer cash and use it to pay off your account. Understand?

Sorry, I re-read your post and we are talking about two different things

If you want to cruise for free then you don't want OBC (on board credit - that pays for tips, drinks, excursions, etc) what you want is a cruise discount certificate.

Go to the rewards section and you will see the different offerings.

I had the same problem with a Continental card a while back (re: the offer in the mail, was not what the rep told me on the phone). I did not have a problem once it was kicked up the line. Keep your printed offer and if they give you any further hassel, you will have it for back up. However, you may want to read the small print - with some cards you can get UP TO say 10,000 points but it's not all at once - you get 5,000 now and then you can get another so many onnce you use the card and if you add another card member you get some more and if your purchases exceed a certain limit within some time frame (usually 6 mos.) you get another batch of points.

I am not saying that is how your NCL offer is, but read all the details carefully.

As for what a "qualifying purchase" is, it is any purchase, so go get a burger or some gas - doesn't matter. You cannot get points for cash advances or balance transfers.

You can get a $1,000 OBC... but I don't know why you would want that much OBC for a 7 day cruise. $500 off any cruise for 50,000 World Points, according to the chart, so if you are trying to get $ off your cruise instead of OBC, according to the chart you can get up to $500 off.

EXCURSIONS ... I spent almost $1300 on this past cruise and we only made 2 stops..though going to Bermuda I probably won't spend that much

Also to get 100,000 points would take a while

OK--here is my problem...went to BOA site..to redeem for OBC..they give me a phone number to call -(all that after being timed out 4 times!!--the site is really slow)

before I call...question...

I have 32000 points....from what I read here...I can only get 1 OBC for $250...OR can I get 1 OBC for $250 AND 1 OBC for $50 ?

thanks ....

Yes you can get both.... you're right the website is no good and it doesn't always take the promo codes, I just call the number and skip the online. (866)954-4077

If you are wanting to use them for onboard credit you can get 3 ($100 rewards)...OR... 1 ($250 reward) and 1 ($50 reward), then you can use the extra 2000 points for Triple Play Chips (1000 points) or Slots/Blackjack Tournament (2000 points)

:)

Or you can charge everything to your room, pay with your M/C (getting double points) then do a cash transfer to pay off your credit card. Using points for discount certificates or OBC cheats you out of the opportunity to make those double points.

Just a suggestion.

Have a great time!

I called today about the new NCL card I received to find that the APR of 1.9% only applies to balance transfers :( . I thought I could charge the cruise and then have a few extra months to pay it off with very little interest. I guess I won't be using the card as much as I had planned. I'm going to charge the cruise for the points, but pay it off in full to avoid the 20% interest charges.

BTW I asked about the 5x program and customer service told me there was another promotion going on that she could enroll me in. If I spend $2000 by Nov. 30, I will receive 2000 extra bonus points. FYI - to anyone interested, call and find out if they will make you the same offer.

We were undecided on what cruise to take. RC or NCL and opened an RC card first. Since they are both Bank of America, I am working if i can just use those points and redeem them for the NCL onboard credit. anyone have any ideas? Points didnt post yet and I am just wondering.

I have not looked at RCs program since they were acquired by BoA but you willhave to call BoA for an exact answer. If the program is equivalent to NCLs there MAY be a cash back option. If so, then redeem the points for cash and spend them whereever you wish. With NCL's there is no advantage to using your points for dicount certifictes, OBC, casino credit etc. The % is the same unless you are redeeming very low rewards in which case it is much less than 1%.

There was no minimum first purchase in fact when I left the ship with the cash I was going to use to pay for my onboard purchases put it back in my bank and as soon as it appeared on my online banking I paid it off.

I have been making purchases just to gain points ...probably 6 and paying it off asap ..and I have made at least 4 payments and I still haven't even received my first statement .

I am going to call today ...as you may be able to tell I am not a credit card person ,meaning I don't like them and don't use them. I do have another credit card but it has a zero balance If I do use it I pay it off immediately

It seems like I may be doing something wrong

Thanks

Ed

You can pay off the balance every month - no need to carry one, if that's a question. Sounds to me like a call to customer services is in order to straighten this out. You can also sign up to access your account online and get everything you need to know.

Good luck!

Yes I am going to call tehm ..I didn't have time yesterday but I am going to make time today

Not sure itf you read correctly or I mistyped something but I will try to clear this up .

September 23 - I signed up for the card on the ship

September 24 - I got off the ship my onboard purchases were put on card

September 27 - I went onlione to pay my morgage (BOA) and there was my credit card already online so I PAID IT OFF

Oct 2-10- Made Purchases

October 15th - Paid off credit Card

Balance ...$0

Not sure when I get a statement my guess is the closing date should be Oct 24th so my statement should be here soon

Having said that ..I am a CASH person meaning I hate credit cards .only use them when I have to and pay them off immediately

The only reason I even got this card was because I took my wife on a Boston to Bermuda cruise for a cheap 15yr anniversary trip . We live in teh area and drove to the port. Well the ship never made it to Bermuda tahnks to Hurricane Igor

Well we still want to go to Bermuda and with the 10,000 bonus points equaling $100 on board credit plus the fact that I purchased a future cruise on board.. I now have $350 towards next years cruise ...the cost of this crusie only cost me $475 per person ...my goal is to go for FREE next year :D

Thanks

Ed

You will need for a complete billing cycle to take place. If you signed up for the card on Sept 23, and were able to charge to the card on September 24, I would wait until Sunday or the end of the day Monday, and then check online to see that points are there. Once the billing cycle shows that it is completed, if the points are not there, then I would call, but I don't think you need to make that call yet. In the future, you can wait until you are billed and then pay the full balance off once each month. This is the best way to get the most out of the card - although the card is not nearly as good as it was a few years ago. We used to be able to earn 3X the amount we can now...
