Akkadian01 Posted August 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2007 1) Bingo 2) Art Auctions 3) Someone telling you how important and crucial it is to buy your tanzanites and other “stones” from NCL approved dealers. Going on and on about how rare these stones are………..
Hobbsey Posted August 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2007 And maybe even more often. I'd sure enjoy it more.
Akkadian01 Posted August 8, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Same here......... and I am firm believer in the if you dont like whats on tv change the channel. However it so annoying to listen to "Crazy Candy" talking about the bingo bunch setting up for another bingo bonanza on the Spinnakers.........or Flash Gordon the art dealer screaming..........."LETS GET READY TO AUCTION"
Cruise_More_Often Posted August 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Those are the very three things about cruising that I just don't get! They really must make the cruise lines a lot of money.
Don Haynes Posted August 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2007 None of the promotions involving the suggested hard sells bother me as much as the spa''s. I just wished Bingo was cheaper and the prizes higher.
Hobbsey Posted August 8, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2007 For sure, especially on a cloudy day. I believe that anyone that cares enough will find it in the daily paper - they just don't need to do so many annoying annoucements. Celebrity gets it right in this regard, IMHO. Akkadian01 Posted August 8, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I know I might sound like if I have no class...........but I really dont get what so special about Jewelry mostly the stones. I understand and I am cool with the Port Consultant talking about were I can shop. I just dont get the hour long siminars about how to polish my tanzanites and other rare stones

Going on and on about how rare these stones are……….. Ummm, let's see.... I've never attended an art auction. Never gone to Bingo. And never bought nor listened to someone selling jewelry, stones, gems, or silver/gold by the inch... So I guess my answer is a resounding, YES! Going on and on about how rare these stones are……….. If you've been on enough cruises, then you don't hear those announcements anymore. And the all important disembarkment talk by the CD, that one person from each party must attend. Happy Cruising, Monty
tunseeker1 Posted August 8, 2007 #11 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Hmm I have never gone to an art auction or played bingo. I talk to the Shopping consultant, the last one we had was a good gemologist. I have some background in gemstones so I am always trying to learn. I just hate the people at the seminars so I try and get private time with them. I don't watch tv so i don't get to see the annoying shows you mention so I would cruise the same amount.
okfarmerswife Posted August 8, 2007 #12 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Only been on 2 cruises but I didn't even look at the merchandise....am there for vacation and not to shop for those things. Just doesn't interest me. When I shop for things like that, I like to have choices for comparison shopping to get the best deal. I'm almost certain that's not going to be on a cruise ship! As far as Bingo, I've played on both cruises but after reading the reviews of the Spirit's bingo being a rip-off, I've decided not to play on upcoming cruise in Oct. and I know I won't miss it anyway. Rare kodos Posted August 8, 2007 #13 Share Posted August 8, 2007 None of those things interest me but cruises are also supposed to try and provide something for everyone. People play bingo, people buy art, and people certainly shop. I know these activities are fun to poke at but even if they don't post in this thread some people would complain if they weren't offered. pathubia Posted August 8, 2007 #14 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I confess I have played bingo, but in my opinion, it just doesnt pay off well.... Never done the art auction or the jewelry thing either....
bplazo Posted August 8, 2007 #15 Share Posted August 8, 2007 The only thing that I like to do on the ship is sit on deck with a good book and maybe breakfeast, lunch, dinner and a nice drink.
GottaLuvCruising Posted August 8, 2007 #16 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I love art auctions and enjoy bingo now and then. But it wouldn't affect my decision to cruise or not.
spirit rev Posted August 8, 2007 #17 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Like many others, not having bingo, art auctions (can't say I've ever seen any art I'd want to own at the auction) and announcements would not affect the number of cruises I take. I turn off most of the announcements after the first few seconds. I do not cruise or vacation for that matter to shop for high end goods. Now, if the shopping consultants, esp. on the Carib. routes, could also include some good places to purchase native made products, I might attend. denisegold Posted August 8, 2007 #20 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I'd sail either way. I might take in one Bingo game (if there was nothing else that interested me at the time) No art auctions or gemstone seminars for me, but I figure, some people like that stuff, so that leaves the things I do like less crowded. "something for everyone"!!!!
clhall Posted August 8, 2007 #21 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I'd be able to afford to cruise more if my husband didn't go to the art auctions. :o)
Barb Nahoumi Posted August 8, 2007 #22 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Been there---done that on my first cruise. Now, I'm just content to sit by the pool with a good book and watch the sea. This is what a cruise is all about.
newmexicoNita Posted August 8, 2007 #23 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Bingo: would never play at the prices they charge: Art Auction: they can be interesting but whether they are part of the cruise makes no difference to me: Jewelry: I don't happen to think the deals are all what they are cracked up to be. I never buy much, if so, most likely not from the places the cruise lines recommend. As for announcements, none of the lines have nearly as many as in the past. If we are in our cabin, we barely here them unless they are the important ones like life boat drill, etc. If in the public areas I just turn them off. I would miss the casino, I admit it.
