joelnlisa Posted September 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2007 I hear there is a rumor that you can order dinner to be delivered to your cabin and you can eat on your balcony. We are in a Grand Suite on the Explorer 9/9. Does anyone know how to order this or who to speak with to get it ordered? Also we are traveling with my Aunt and Uncle, is the Balcony on the Grand Suite big enough for the four of us to dine outdoors?
Sue L Posted September 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2007 Just call room service. the balcony will be big enough for the four of you but be aware that all the balconies we have had the table on the balcony is small and very low, a little hard to eat one. I don't know if it is different for a suite but I don't think so.

cb at sea Posted September 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2007 If you have a "dining" table, eating on the balcony would be lovely! However, most of the balconies have a small "patio" table (about 1 ft. sq.) that would NOT be suitable for a full meal. Very difficult and messy. Your suite may have a larger table, and that would be great for a meal! Good luck!
LAKaye Posted September 1, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 1, 2007 It is possible to order off of the dining room menu during the dinner hours through room service. However, I don't think that most staterooms, including the Grand Suite, are dinner-dining friendly. The room and the balcony have cocktail-height tables. It is not until you go into an Owner's Suite that you have a proper-height table suitable for dining on. Celebrity and Princess are two of the major cruise lines that have 30" high tables on some of their balconies. Perhaps you and your family can enjoy cocktails on the balcony before dinner, and then make yourself comfortable in the dining room or in the specialty restaurant. Bon Voyage~~ Leslie

PhoenixCruiser Posted September 1, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2007 It all comes together so by the time you get to the main course it might be cold or just warm. In any case, enjoy your suite :D ###
Langley Cruisers Posted September 1, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 1, 2007 Honestly, I would not eat dinner on my balcony. As stated above, it's just not very "dinner friendly". There isn't much room and it's tough enough to manage breakfast, let alone dinner. What about coffees and dessert? Or, in the morning, coffee and pastries would be nice on the balcony. I find it's a personal decision, and having done meals on the balcony, I found it just wasn't everything it was cracked up to be. Sorry, don't mean to be a wet blanket, but it's just not great. I think you'd have a much nicer meal in the Dining Room, one of the specialty restaurants, or even the Windjammer.
Creeks Posted September 1, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 1, 2007 DH was not feeling well so I ordered from the dinner menu cabin attendant brought, we had to full dinner, in our robes on formal night. However, I would have prefered having it in the dining room. We made the best of a not perfect situation. ~ :o
joelnlisa Posted September 1, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted September 1, 2007 Thanks for the input and the great pics. I really thought the balcony was bigger. I see what you are talking about with the lack of space. We were on Princess and had a full size table with 4 chairs on the Balcony I was hoping for the same set-up. Oh well no biggie still will be cruising a week from tomorrow:)
Rancher Dave Posted September 1, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 1, 2007 Are the balconies on the aft of a Voyage Class any bigger in terms of space for eating? My guess is no, but if anyone can yield information that would be great. We are in one in March and would love to grab a meal out there at least in the morning, but side tables are a bit hard to use for eating especially with child in cabin also. AFT_LOVER Posted September 1, 2007 #12 Share Posted September 1, 2007 is a dining table set the way they do the dining room. We ate breakfast, lunch & dinner there daily so the steward who is our waiter got double tip! Great to have a couple we met during the day over for dinner & they bought cocktails. Too bad RCCL doesn't do that for D1 AFT & UP. With the big balcony, we have plenty of room for a table for 4 at least. We haven't even had breakfast on RCCL in our stateroom since only the coffeetable or the desk is big enough for the tray with dishes & carafe. Forget the mini-table on the balcony. It is possible to order off of the dining room menu during the dinner hours through room service. However, I don't think that most staterooms, including the Grand Suite, are dinner-dining friendly. Below is a picture from 1694. It was huge, including a full size table with 4 chairs. A great place for breakfast, but doubt we would enjoy dinner there. At least not DR type food. We'd rather have the quality and temp that comes elsewhere.
LadyRose Posted September 2, 2007 #14 Share Posted September 2, 2007 What are the balconies on the FOS (GS) like? Anyone have a pic, by any chance? Thanks!

Only two chairs (and two loungers and the small table), but I am sure that we could have rustled up one or two more if we had wanted to have dinner out there! (and the corner aft is protected from wind)

Rancher Dave Posted September 2, 2007 #17 Share Posted September 2, 2007 Thanks CLQ Think we are 9518 on Navigator in March. I have two cabin #s written down from chat with TA...and know we ended up in an aft cabin. Ultimatley I think dinner will be in the chow hall...as you or someone else said temp of the food is better there than on the balcony.
iukbsn Posted September 2, 2007 #18 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I've seen photos of the JS w/ very good sized tables on the balconies that would be fine to eat on. I remember our breakfast on the balcony in our aft cabin w/ the little 1 ft square table. It was quite comical trying to put dishes on that little table - we ended up w/ more of a picnic style breakfast but it was still nice..... la_croisiere_s'amuse Posted September 2, 2007 #19 Share Posted September 2, 2007 Celebrity and Princess are two of the major cruise lines that have 30" high tables on some of their balconies. Also Holland America. Strictly in terms of balcony furniture, we had better stuff on our HAL Deluxe (JS equivalent) than our Celebrity Royal Suite (OS equivalent). Incidentally, they also serve the hot dishes on little heating plates. Very nice touch!
CRUZNRN2 Posted September 2, 2007 #20 Share Posted September 2, 2007 We Had An Aft J/s On The Eos And Had A Very Large Table With 2 Chairs/2 Lounges..it Was In The Middle Of The Ship So We Didn't Have Wind Issues As There Was A Large Section Of The Ship In Front Of Us, Not The Ocean Right There.
