Cancelling an Excursion

We'll be on the CB this Sunday. The excursion we chose for St. Marten had us listed as "waitlist". We did also reserve a second excursion as a backup, just in case the first one doesn't work out. My question is how far in advance do you need to cancel a Princess excursion without being charged? Thank you.

The Princess Patter will list the closing time for shore excursions for each port. This is the time by which you must book or cancel an excursion. If you don't cancel by this time you can't get your money back. Generally, this is 7pm two nights before you reach the port. That is, if you arrive in a port on Wednesday morning the cutoff time would be 7pm on Monday.

When you book a tour on Princess, you "reserve" it and it's not charged until you check in at embarkation. The amount will be charged to your onboard account and the tickets will be waiting for you in your cabin.

To cancel, just drop the tickets in the box in front of the Shore Desk by the time specified in the Patter. Generally, it's between 24 - 48 hours before the tour but the Patter will list exactly which port's tours "close" when and what time. Pay attention to that. The amount will be credited back to your onboard account. It's as easy as that.

If you are on a waitlist and the waitlist comes through, then the backup excursion will be automatically cancelled (with money refunded), even after the "no change" time. Just make sure that the excursion desk knows it is a backup.

When you get on board, ask about the waitlisted excursion. There was a problem on the Sun where every excursion at one port (Hobart) was waitlisted for a while and were never cleared. When we got on board, ours wasn't listed as sold out so we asked about it and got the runaround about people cancelling. But we heard other people saying the same thing. They were still waitlisted when there were openings.
