Crazy question

Hi. We are cruising this summer and will have with us our nephew who is a celebrity in the football world. I was just wondering, can you get the room numbers of people on the cruise just by asking? We are a little concerned about keeping him safe. It would be great if that info. is kept quiet. What is policy on board about giving out room numbers? We have never cruised before?

They are keeping it confidential. I wouldn't worry about it. Plus, as a football player he may not be recognized as much as a regular visible celebrity. Remember, football players wear helmets and unless you have real dedicated football fans he will be fine. You peeked my curiosity though.

Since you didn't mention a sail date or ship there is no harm telling us who your nephew is.

;)

I agree. They don't give out room numbers, but have offered (at least in our case) to connect you to a room. I've had it happen in a case where we were traveling with friends and had given them our room number which had accidentially been lost. Guest relations would contact us but not give them a room number.

I wanted to post that question about 3 hours ago. But CC acted up and it took for ever to submit. So I clicked on stop and went shopping for a few hours and when I came back I just clicked the submit button. :D

Little did I know what was discussed in the mean time. lmao

:p;)

So what is Walkman worried about? After all; you opened this can of worms:rolleyes: Who is the nephew? If he is not in the NFL yet, we probably wouldn't know who he is anyway. Like the previous posters said, they were helmets so you really don't what the look like....hum, me thinks we have a trouble making troll:rolleyes:

The ball is in your court.

Well, ( I posted in an earlier post that we are going July 08, if had not posted that thread before I would feel better about telling you :( ) I know that it is no big deal, but in a worst case scenario some stalker (he's had a few) finds out what cruise he is going on and that person goes on the cruise! ouch. He would kill me and his parents would kill me and my parents would kill me...and on and on. I am sure that would not happen but stranger things have happened before.

This cruise we are going on is for my parents 50th Anniversary and if we can keep it quiet about my nephew it is supposed to be about them, and that is the way he wants it too. Anyway, I am sure it will all be wonderful and we can't wait!!!! It has been fun talking... have a blessed day!

We were on a cruise with Sebastian Janokowski once. (Kicker for the raiders) My son recognized him in the casino and talked to him casually in one of the bars, but it was all very low key. He was not mobbed or bothered. Of course, contrary to most kickers, this guy is huge and I don't think anyone would pick a fight with him. LOL

I think by and large, most people will respect your privacy.

Have fun

Karen

You know, it would have been much more prudent had you either called rccl or your travel agent to ask this particular question rather than post it on a message board on the internet since you say you are so concerned about his safety.

If he is a college boy football player, he will be lucky if 1 out of 3,000 people on the ship actually recognize him.

Hey, I had no idea this thread would go this way. So...goodbye all. Sorry to upset you few. Honestly I thought this was a friendly forum. I say thank you to the people who were kind and helpful. I will not be posting again and you meaner people can attack someone else I guess. God Bless all of you! And from now on it would be super if people would just believe the best in people and not think the worst. Believe it or not we are just a family wanting to cruise and I say again wanting an answer to a question. I am sure we are all tired of this thread. I know I am. Thanks.

Tell the ship not to give out his room number (or allow anybody to ask the ship to call his room). I was with a group this past week on Radiance and the leader of the group tells the ship not to give out her room number (due to a past problem she had). Otherwise, a person can call down to the desk and ask to be put through to somebody's room by their name (which shows up, along with the room number I think, on the caller ID readout).

I wouldn't go that far. In this media age, I'd certainly recognize anyone who might be up for the Heisman, Universities market these guys to death and they have tons of out of uniform photo ops. Of course I live where college football is King.

AS someone who collects autographs of famous people I can tell you that unless you are looking specially for someone you might not recognize them. Football player are tougher to recognize because you don't often see them without their helment and for the most part they all look the same. Large, muscular bodies!!!! Just tell him if someone recognizes him to say that he is not that person and he has been told many times that he resembles him. You know everyone is told that they have a double someplace. He can avoid the problems if he doesn't admit who he is.

This question reminded me of my first night on my very first cruise in 2001.

My family of four (2 daughters that were 10 and 7 at the time) were seated at a table for four right next to an isolated table for two. I immediately recognized Keith Jackson, the football announcer for college football for so many years. I was intrigued and thought that cruising was going to be all about sitting next to famous people....never happened again in over 8 subsequent cruises.

Nobody seemed to notice Mr. Jackson besides me and I saw him on the ship several times after that, acting just like everybody else. I doubt that your nephew will have too many intrusive cruisers.

The only football player I would recognize is O.J.

Now if the nephew walks around the ship in a ______team jersey – that might be a dead giveaway.

If he is that famous I would imagine he is in a suite. It is easy to direct dial the suites, starting with the Royal and working your way down.

I’ve seen many “famous” peoples in restaurants. Most of the time, they’re left alone to enjoy their meal. I was in Emeril’s last December and Billy Joel was just 2 tables away. NO ONE dining in the restaurant approached his table.

I follow NFL football and I don't think I would recognize anyone other than a Manning. As for college football I watched the Heismann and still wouldn't recognize anyone from that. I think you will be fine and he will be able to enjoy the cruise without to much notariety.

Chill and have fun.

Hey Walkman4-

Please don't give up on these boards. I'm new here, but overall the people have been very helpful and nice.

In the South college football is KING! Even I (a football hater) would recognize top players helmet or not. Hope your family has a great cruise.

If your last name happens to be McNabb or Brady, please let me know and I would be happy to personally escort your nephew around for his protection....

Otherwise, unless he is majorly big time in a bad, controversial OJ way, I wouldn't worry. Lots of celebrities of various status take cruises, I don't think it's much a of an issue.

Have fun!!

  • 5 months later...

Hey you guys. We are back from our cruise. Just in case you were wondering, people were very kind and did not bother Colt on the cruise. He had a great time and was able to relax for a much needed vacation. Lots of people would stare and smile and get excited about seeing him but most did not make a big deal out of it. Anyway, we loved the cruise and hope to go again some day. :)
