Soverign Room Question

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me about the oceanview rooms on deck 8 with the "obstructed view".. Are the life boats outside the windows? Have sailed on the Soverign before, but never paid attention to this. The price is not much more than the lowest priced inside room. Thanks for your help!

Deck 8 is the secret "best bargain" on the ship!

Yes, they are obstructed, but there's not much to see anyway. You have to go up to a JS to get a balcony, and once you compromise on that, you may as well get the best deal you can on a window.

Category I (Deck 8) is cheaper than H or G, which are Decks 2 & 3!

Some cabins are more obstructed than others.

Here is the famous schematic of the UNobstructed obstructed category I cabins: ;)

Thanks Marion.Mom. So I guess I just pick one of the room with the pink dot? It is such a short cruise, I would really just like to know when the sun is coming up and going down..........

Thanks again!!!

This is 8854. If you look closely you can see the shadow of the lifeboat through the window and you can also see the water. If you can't make it out, click on the link to my Sovereign photos below for a bigger image.

Sorta like getting a PR cabin on the Voyager/Freedom class.

Waaaaaay worse.

Think about it. If you are in a Promenade cabin, and you leave your curtains open, people see you from a greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat distance.

If they are walking RIGHT BY YOUR WINDOW on Deck 7 on a Sovereign class ship, they are RIGHT THERE.

Just return from our 3 day Sovereign cruise yesterday!!! I miss being aboard - where is my room steward and waiter at home?????

We stayed on Deck 8 - 8086 to be exact, and the pics above are a true representation of the view out the window. One thing I did notice was that towards the back of the ship as we were, the cabins are close to two of the night clubs on board-(Bolaro's on 7 below our cabin) and Voltage across the back of eight. We could hear some music from both until about midnight all nights on board. Didnt bother me too much but if your towards the aft of the ship, I just thought you might like to know. The ship is very easy to get around. We had a great time and great service from all. The crew is awesome, better than some of the bigger ships we have been on. And we found the Windjammer to be a bit better also. It was our sons first cruise and he is addicted too, wants to go back!!!

If you have any questions that I can answer - ask away - Ill be happy to help!!!

Snobunnie,

Thanks for the input. We have sailed on the Soverign twice before. Once on the bottom deck, outside room and then on deck 5 in what we called the "cul de sac". Love that location, but are looking for a room with a lower rate for just a short cruise. We are booked on the Constellation for a 2 week cruise to Canada/New England in the fall, but wanted an inexpensive weekend cruise to get us by until then..........

Thanks again!!!!!

Welcome home :). I'm leaving on the SOS on Monday. Cabin 6036. It was one of the only outside's left when I booked...believe it or not...way back in September!!! I don't know if it is good or not...but its on the ship...that is the most important thing.

I guess I've picked the brains of many already on the SOS. So, I'll just ask you if there is anything you'd wished you'd known before you went? Or something you'd done differently. Oh yeah...the shows...not the productions...comedian etc. How were they?

Thanks.

Another "secret" cabin selection tip is on deck 9,there is one balcony........cabin 9028...When they added balconies to the SS, they put one on deck 9 and one on deck 10 to see what looked and fit better...Deck 10 won out........they left that one on deck nine(9028).

It is priced as a SO,BUT since it is a balcony, you get the platinum/diamond discount on it..

For my next SS cruise it is only costing me $30 more than the the cabin I usually get on deck 8.

We're sailing on the 14th and I can't wait!! We're on deck 7 and I know, I know it's the promenade deck. :( We pretty much just plan to be in our room to sleep, so the curtains will be closed anyway. Oh well. We'll deal with it. It's a completely free cruise (including air) - we'll just be paying our bar tab and for the excursion we're doing (it was an incentive trip I earned through my business) - so I can't complain! :D I'm just psyched to have a "kid-free" vacation from our 3 and 6 year old for a few days. I know there will be kids there, but they won't be ours.:D

I love hearing everybody's experiences. Thanks to all for sharing!

We always stay in Cabin 8540. Right next to the elevators so a great location. Can look out the window with little to no obstruction. Last time could not get 8540 so stayed in 8514 and that was fine also.

How cool! My sister will be staying in 8540 when we cruise in August. I will be in 8538. Have I said I can't wait?? :D

I have a couple more questions... Do the windows open at all on deck 8? They don't look like they do but I figured I'd ask. Are there ATMs on the ship and/or in Nassau & CocoCay? My mother actually came up with that question but seeing as I haven't been on a cruise in my life, I couldn't tell her. :p lol

As I mentioned I really really miss being onboard especially tonight as I was trying to figure out what to make for dinner....

As far as shows we went to see the comedy guy on the first night and wasnt too impressed so we left and went to the Schooner Bar. The next night we watched the jugglers act and he was very good a bit offbeat in his humor, but I enjoyed it. We also did the name that tune in the Schooner bar and that was alot of fun. We got the girl who was hosting it to use Classic rock songs and we all had a riot. She also told us that they are changing the entertainers every week because of the frequency of return passengers.

Getting money is pretty easy. If you need cash go to the casino and they will put it on our card and there is no ATM fee...If they ask if your gambling jsut say yes!! Your not lying because Im betting you are gonna spend it!!! Somewhere, some place, Im betting its not gonna sit in your pocket. No ne of the windows open. One thing that our Waiter Santana and Asst waiter, Walter mentioned is hat dinner packed on every night except for the formal night, they thinks its because its called "formal night" They both said that they have never ever seen anyone removed from the dinning room because of attire and they wish that people would come to dinner. They said it made there time pass quicker. They were both great with us and with the kids too!!! So I guess the whole idea is go and enjoy and dont sweat anything!!! Its all good!!!

The funniest thing I was ever told about taking a cruise was to pack, and then to take out half of what you packed and replace it with money!! LOL!!!! 'cuse you'll use half of the clothes you think you will and spend twice as much as you think you should!!
