Whats Up With The Toilet Paper Shortage on Cruiselines?
Johnny Carson's writers decided to include a joke based on this quote in Carson's monologue. He said "You know what's disappearing from the supermarket shelves? Toilet paper. There's an acute shortage of toilet paper in the United States."
Actually ....these guys did clog their toilet and still had the gall to post the video with titles describing what was happening (including the ship they were on). Wonder why they didn't post their cabin number too.

Wonder whose coffee cup they used "bailing out" their toilet.
Was that a plastic hanger?
The culprit is Julie Barr. 10,000 TP rolls were re-allocated to be used for her toilet-paper animal craft classes.

There were two of them. First, the second day out in the Windstar Cafe for a small fee. US$15, I believe.
Dam! I wish Julie Barr would be onboard for my next cruise. I really like that lady! Haven't seen her since the Zuiderdam in 2004. :(

Blue skies!

I only hope the cruise line charged them for the damage. Idiots!

People have the gall to post lots of things. I saw photos in a gallery where people were throwing fruit overboard and thought that was just fine and dandy.

Blue skies ...
Funny I just found this thread. Yesterday we visited with several passengers on the world cruise while the Amsterdam was in New York. A couple who were our neighbors on the 2005 wc were complaining that on this world cruise the cabin steward never left a back up roll of toilet paper in the bathroom only the roll that was on the dispenser. After asking for weeks he finally left them one extra roll. Pretty amazing when you consider their balcony cabin on the world cruise goes for $800-$900 a day.
We just returned from Ryndam's Sea of Cortez cruise where we also had a shortage of toilet paper and for those commenting on the issue possibly not happening in the suites, we were in an "S" suite.

We also noted a definite shortage of dining room staff and a real change in the dinner menu. In my many, many cruises with HAL I have never before seen Mac and Cheese or Chef's salad as an entre at night and no lobster at all except for the last formal evening when one small lobster tail was served with a baby filet.( with no seconds offered). The shrimp cocktail went from 4 shrimp the first night it was served to only 3 shrimp the second and last time it was offered. Others at our table commented on the poor menu and most chose the "available any evening selections" of French soup, Caesar's salad, and New York steak each evening. Also, for us we had a dismal meal in the Pinnacle Grill which never appeared to be booked to capacity any night.

I only hope that these problems were limited to our particular sailing. HAL is my favorite line and we have at least one more future cruise booked (Maasdam's Canada-New England). Hopefully someone will respond with many glowing reports and even "flame" me if they must. I only want to know that HAL is not "skimping" on food, materials and staff. It was the best line with the absolutley most wonderful staff on the high seas!

I didn't have a shortage of toilet paper on the Maasdam in Apr.08 but I agree with the other things you say about the dining room. Didn't see the mac and cheese on this one but it was on the Ryndam in Oct.07. The lobster and steak was tiny but has been for a while now. The dining room staff wasn't the best either. I have to say that our assistant waiter was better then the head waiter.

Oh dear! I was hoping that our Ryndam experience was a fluke. We usually alternate our yearly cruise with Celebrity but took Celebrity cruises in both 2006 and 2007 and thus have been away from HAL for 3 years.

Our last HAL cruise before this recent Ryndam one was on Maasdam Canada - New England in June 2005 and was so enjoyable in every aspect that we hoped to duplicate the experience. Now, however we may decide to forego HAL and try Princess or go back to Celebrity.

Does anyone else have anything else to say that might help us decide? We have sailed with HAL for over 20 years and hate to make such a drastic decision; but honestly, the negative changes were so apparent. Even meals in the Lido seemed affected by cut backs and the desserts ( other than the famous bread pudding) were tasteless and always the same day after day.

Yes, I have something to say: Go book your trip on HAL, you won't be sorry! We just spent ten days on Maasdam and had a great time even without mandatory toilet paper scavenger hunts .

On our Prinsendam Amazon Cruise, we were anchored off "Boca da Valeria"...The Capt. Turner, made an announcement & specifically requested that we not throw anything overboard to the people in the boats..He went on to say that people in the boats could be injured by anything thrown at them...

We did not observe Psgrs throwing anything overboard but did observe a Crew member throwing fruit into the water to a very pretty young lady with three little ones in her small boat..We were amazed to see a Crew member do this.....

Can't figure out how to upload the pic but here is the URL:

As you can see, she had a beautiful smile!

Betty, that is interesting that a crew member would do that. But you are right she is pretty with a very nice smile. I am sure she was also appreciative.
I loved your pictures of Brazil, Betty. Those are quite the lily pads.
Oh Thanks Lisa for uploading the pic...Dh has all of them in his PC & I don't know much about uploading them...All the children on Boca are so appreciative of the little gifts given to them,..We so enjoyed that trip, that we went back again this past Dec on Oceania & took a flight bag full of little gifts..We had a wonderful time with the Children..

Our crew took up a collection & Santa, (played by the Casino Mgr.), delivered gifts to the kids...One very moving experience was when we observed a tiny little boy (4-5) open up his gift bag to discover a soccer ball..His dark eyes were as big as saucers & he screeched in delight!..Brought tears to our eyes..

Thanks Hammy for your kind words..Actually DH is the photographer.. Yes we were amazed at the size of the Lily Pads...Had a wonderful time there..Itching for another cruise but have not decided where & when yet..:) :)

Sorry, to have hijacked your TP thread but have had a lot of laughs over it..

Cheers..:) Betty

Oh my gosh!! Too funny! Those Children and their "missing parents" with the camera need to get a life and find other things to do! I missed a couple of pages as we were out of town. Copper John, we went to the LA Times book festival and met Tomi Krugel K-9. We bought his (the dog) book and met his people. Made me think of you and your great dog. Tomi and Serpico are great dogs and Alan Krugel is really nice. Maybe one of these days the great service dogs can cruise too. More well behaved than those parents that think the children can do no wrong! The YouTube videos are really alarming. It's become a Can U Top This to all the kids, too scary and dangerous. Also those talking TP rolls look they might have multiple uses! LOL! Sorry. And they talk too, Yikes! We don't want to alarm the precious room stewards, who see way too much anyway!
