I live in Copenhagen - can give advice

Recommended Posts

We will be staying in the Marriott and are not excited about the high cost of the breakfast there. Are there any good breakfast restaurants nearby. On our last trip to Copenhagen, we tried the train station and were disappointed.

Trains depart every 10 minutes at 01-13-21-33-41-53 minutes past the hour. Tickets cost 36 DKK per person (it's 3 zones) and are available at ticket machines with coins or at the ticket office. Travel time is 12 minutes. Using a 10 trip klippekort is almost half price, but if this is your only trip with public transportation there is no point of buying one, except if you are 4 people or more.

I´m guessing that you have to be at the airport 2 hours early so the departures at 06:13, 06:21 and 06:25 would be the best option.

The trip takes 12 minutes and the the price is 36 DKK or free if you have the Copenhagen Card or the Citypass.

The walk from the hotel takes around 10 minutes.

As already posted the best way is to use the metro (Line M2) from the airport to Kongens Nytorv metro station.

But if you are planning on taking your luggage with you then it would be best to take the train to the central station (København H) and use the luggage storage there.

From København H you can either walk along strøget (the pedestrian street) to Nyhavn or take S-train to Nørreport and then take the metro to Kongens Nytorv.

I´m sorry to hear that, things get ugly when its getting political.

Yes, they certainly do! Here is an editorial from our Florida congressman who is trying to convince our state Governor. This letter appeared in our paper today: http://www.theledger.com/article/20110320/EDIT02/103195070/1037/edit02?Title=Rejecting-High-Speed-Rail-Was-Short-Sighted-Cost-Florida-Jobs

I enjoyed looking at the SJ rail photos, particularly the ones of Øresund bridge (wondering what Øresund translates to in English). I looked for Falkenberg Station but didn't find it. Somewhere I saw that it is a bus station so assume it may not be an SJ facility.

Øresund translates directly to "ear sound" but the commonly english tranlation is simply The Sound.

The word øre also means in old danish something like beach with gravel so it would be The Strait With The Gravel Beach.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%98resund

Falkenberg both has a bus station and a train station but according to Google maps they are located next to each other.

I will try again, there should be a list with cafés that serves Brunch.

The list is sorted by location (downtown Copenhagen ) and its the editors pick,

It will show the name and adresses of the places.

Danish viking - I think you are doing a wonderful job, patiently answering all the varied questions! :)

As food seems to be the latest subject, do you know of any places that for lunch offer a buffet (smorgasbord/smørrebrødsbord) - preferably with lots of herring and other local items?

There are no smørrebrøds buffet in Copenhagen (or what i have heard of)

but here is a list with smørrebrøds restaurants.

you can see how many stars they got, but to understand the small text you need to translate with google or something like that.

Hi Danish Viking! Are we going to have a problem with ATM machines with a Capital One credit card? There have been discussions about a chip in the card for some ATM machines which Capital One doesn't have.

Thanks

Dave

We will be on the Emerald Princess on August 31 round trip from Copenhagen, but are spending a few days in Copenhagen before the cruise. Can you recommend some tours that we might do on our first day to get an overview of the city? We read about bus/canal tours. Are there any in particular that stand out? Thanks much.

Trying to determine how many days we need in Copenhagen pre-cruise.

Would one day be enough to take in the major attractions?

Originally, I was thinking three days but we are coming in from Iceland and wondering if we should spend more time there instead of Copenhagen.

We are on the NCL Sun leaving June 4 so I am thinking we could get to Copenhagen around noon, check into the hotel, go explore that afternoon and night and then check out of the hotel the next day, go to check to the ship, drop off our things and still meander around Copenhagen until sailing time at 5 p.m.

Thoughts?

I saw that to but forgot to told you, but you was ahead of me.

You can use the way cheaoer City Circle Line instead.

The bus is also called 11A and is a small electrical bus that can navigate the small streets in central Copenhagen.

It starts from The Tivoli Congress Center and Hotel (also Wake Up) it the reaches Glyptoteket, The Central Station, Tivoli, Town Hall Square, Strøget (Pedestrian Street) The Round Tower, Nørreport Station, Water bus terminal, Kongens Nytorv, Strøget (again), The National Museum, Central Station (and Tivoli) and back to the Tivoli Hotel.

The price for a single 2 zone ticket is 24 DKK, a 10 trip 2 zone card cost 140 DKK (14 DKK for each Trip).

Each ticket is valid for 1 hour.

It is free with the 24 and 72 hour Copenhagen Card, price is 239 and 469 DKK and the 24 hour Citypass (70 DKK).

@ jdvmd

That is a hard question, i would say 3 days in Copenhagen but Iceland is wonderful to.

But Iceland is very nature oriented so a few days there would not do it justice so i would save Iceland for another vacation and just visit the Blue Lagoon and other sights around Reykjavik on this trip and focus on Copenhagen instead.

Hello Danish Viking,

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer everyone's questions. Now I've got a few for you!

We cruise out of Copenhagen on May 8 (Sunday), and we would like to visit a castle/museum before we embark. We were thinking of either the Danish Resistance museum, Rosenborg castle or the National museum. Do you know if we would be able to store our luggage at any of these while we visit? We would probably take public transportation there and then a cab afterwards to the pier.

Also, I know a Copenhagen card becomes activated when you first use it. If we get a 3 day card, activating it at around noon on Thursday, would they ask us to leave at 12:01 if we happened to be in Rosenborg castle?

Just wondering how that works.

Thank you so much for your help!

Ingrid

I have a Capital One ATM card with pin and a Capital One Visa Charge Card with no pin. Capital One said I would not need a pin to use the charge card. True???

Janet

You don't need a pin for a credit card, just for a debit card (ATM card). We use the Capital One Visa card all the time - you don't need a pin because you can't use it at an ATM

Your help is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO appreciated !!!! Do most hotels offer transport to the hotel from the airport and to the pier in the morning ? Any suggestions on hotels that are as "budget friendly" as you can get in Copenhagen ? Thanks uin advance ! ;)
