I live in Copenhagen - can give advice

Recommended Posts

We disembark the Emerald on 5/23 am-staying @ Clarion Mayfair. I thought I would just figure it out when I got there....but someone asked me, so I said I would ask you:D . Can we walk to a train station & take that to the hotel? I'm thinking a taxi would cost a lot more. Sorry, I'm sure you've answered this before.... I can't believe people are asking about next yr already..!

Thank you for your help...I'm also going to assume someone can explain the transportation when we get there.

Can you come back and tell me about the Clarion Mayfair hotel either on this thread or a new one? I have been reading about the different hotels and it would be nice to heard from someone that has stayed at the hotel.

Luckily its very easy, take a S-train from track 9 and 10 from the nearby central station to either Nordhavn station with a short 10 minute walk to the freeport terminal or to Østerport and take bus number 26 to the freeport terminal.

I just needed the directions from the ship to the hotel...so do I reverse these directions?

Thanks!

yes just reverse it.

Just walk to Nordhavn station and take any southbound S-train towards Hundige, Solrød Strand, Køge (my town btw.) Høje Taastrup, Ballerup and/or Frederikssund.

Bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads can only be used from Mondays to Fridays, I posted a timetable from the cruise pier a few days ago maybe you can find it or I can post it again when I'm on my computer.

Danish viking: We will have one additional afternoon in Copenhagen before flying home. I had thought to do Kronborg Castle. I see that the train trip to Helsingor will take approx. 45 minutes. How much time should we leave to see the Castle? Will the whole visit with transportation take longer than 4 hours? thank you for your assistance!

I would say 1 hour including the walking time from Helsingør station so 2 hours of transportation and walking and 2 hours in the castle should do it.

The train runs every 20 minute so if you miss one train you should make a 20 minute buffer in your schedule.

Thanks for the info! Your dedication to this is amazing! Do you ever get to cruise? You could have a full time job being a tour guide:rolleyes:

No not really, If the cruise ferry between Copenhagen and Oslo or with the now discontinued service between Frederikshavn and Larvik counts then yes or a river cruise starting and ending in Amsterdam via Alkmaar. :D

I can add a alot of ferry crossings with both car, train and/or passenger only ferries but these crossings have been from 5 minutes to around 2 hours so they can't qualify as a cruise.

Maybe the best solution is to find a less expensive hotel in Copenhagen and use the savings to pay for a taxi from the airport (and to the cruiseport).

Carrying heavy luggage for the cruise on and off public transportation does not seem to be the best way to travel.

Thank you Danish viking - helpful as always. I see there are different tickets and prices - is it worth the extra cost to get the full ticket that includes everything including the Maritime Museum, The Telegraph and Tower?

@ dalgirl

If I was you I would take the combo ticket because I think that all the museums are wonderful.

@ Jimbo59

I can see the point in taking the taxa but I do consider myself a do it yourself kind of guy when it comes to travel and I do hate group tours so if I can do it myself or guide others in doing so then I'm happy.

I am currently on the MSC Opera (Internet is a bit slow...tried searching for the answers, but had difficulty, so I am just going to ask a question I am sure already has been...my apologies)

We arrive in Copenhagen tomorrow from 9-1. Can we walk from the pier to city center? Would love to get to Tivoli Park if possible.

We like walking European cities, so do not mind if it is awhile. The excursions desk said it was about a 30 min walk, but I wanted to check with folks here who probably know best!

Ideally we would like to just walk off the ship, walk to city center, and explore the city. Tivoli Park would be our top choice if its walkable.

I have cash in euros, pounds, and dollars (well, and rubles, but they are not worth much haha).

Thanks again for any advice!

That is a very short time in port but anyway here we go, you can walk to Tivoli in around 50 minutes with a detour around Nyhavn, Kongens Nyhavn and Strøget shopping street.

http://maps.google.dk/maps?saddr=Langelinie,+K%C3%B8benhavn&daddr=55.6868219,12.5983996+to:55.6794566,12.5835562+to:55.67803,12.57283+to:tivoli,+vesterbrogade,+k%C3%B8benhavn&hl=da&ie=UTF8&sll=55.68433,12.584255&sspn=0.033532,0.076818&geocode=FTXZUQMddkLAACHZey-4AUdZ9ikxdoMq3FJSRjEPysqOWp7a1Q%3BFaW2UQMdfzzAAClxDVY_IVNSRjH0m3JFSturcg%3BFeCZUQMdhALAAClxnceeF1NSRjGY_euq5IyZFg%3BFU6UUQMdnti_ACmR16i6EVNSRjEShrzyBtCFdg%3BFfOAUQMd-Mi_ACGwJwu1DQu12Q&oq=tivoli&dirflg=w&mra=dpe&mrsp=3&sz=14&via=1,2,3&t=m&z=14

Tivoli opens at 11:00 so you have plenty of time to get in but you will as you say be back at 13:00 in order to be at the ship that departs at 13:30 (according to port authority).

Here are bus and train schedules from Tivoli to your ship at langelinie pier.

hello! We are american "ex-pats" who are currently living in copenhagen.

Lots of great ships come through here - and i'm more than happy to give advice on "what to see and do".

We have two children, ages 4 and 6 (currently) - so are very well versed in "what do to with kids".

The great thing about cph is that it is a very (and i mean very) clean, safe, and easy city to explore.

This is a "not to miss" city on your plans --

enjoy!

I can't give you more detailed info with maps and so on but the hotel is located the island of Amager so its located closer to the airport but it's located in a no mans land but with a metro station called Islands Brygge a few 100 meters behind the hotel and there are busses at the doorstep.

I'm guessing that the walking time to downtown Copenhagen is around 20 minutes so its not good for walking to and from town.

But the rooms is newly renovated or are about to, so the hotel is good and Copenhagen Casino is located on the ground floor.

Hi there,

Hope I am postinf this correctly..........:)

Been reading this thread. Danish Viking is so amazing and so patient with his answers.

Just need to clarify, two of us arr CPH on 29 May, leaving for cruise on the 31, returning on 9 June for another 3 nights. Would it be sensible first to get a 2 zone 10 clip to get to hotel from airport, do some traveling following day, then to cruise ship, then we intend to buy 3 day CPH card to use on our return from cruise. Finally to get to Vesterbro, Estslandge, do we take the train or the metro. Thank you in advance

If you use the klippekort to get from the pier to the hotel on Estlandsgade I presume then you will have 3 punches left to use on the second day and if you have the CPH card already from the ship you will have 5 punches left on the klippekort.

But Estlandsgade is a little bit out of the way so you can either take a S-train to Dybbølsbro station or bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads and get of at Vesterbro Torv.

I realize that Bornholm is a bit different from Copenhagen, but I was hoping someone could answer my question about the bus system (BAT.dk) in Bornholm. We will be visiting in August on a week day and would like to use the bus system to see Hammerhus castle and Gudjem. If I pull up the schedule for bus 2, it's confusing, and I don't know how to interpret it. This schedule does not cover August, so I'm hoping the buses will run more often then. However, for now, it looks like there is a bus 2 from Ronne ferry area to Hammershus from (I believe) 8 in the morning and then not again until 17:00, at least on week days. It that correct, or is there something in between? Also, do any of the other bus lines (maybe 7 or 8) go to Hammershus? Thanks.

Actually, I just looked at this again, and the 7 bus does go to Hammershus, so I guess there are a few more choices than I thought. I'm going to have to really study the bus schedules and routes to see what works for us. However, if someone is willing and able to just check the schedule and answer my question about bus 2, I'd be very grateful! Thanks.

If you go to Rejseplanen.dk you can search on all bus and train schedules in Denmark.

At the top of the page just choose the English menu, departure from Rønne is probably from the ferry terminal but tell me what ship you are on and I will try to point you to the nearest bus stop/terminal.

how embarrassing, I was trying to look up the timetables on rejseplanen on my mobile but somehow I could not find any connections but when I looked at the arrival board for Hammershus there was several busses on route 2, 7 and 10 arriving from Rønne Havn (port of Rønne) during the day.
