Question on dining room breakfast seating.

Recommended Posts

We are sailing the Majesty on Monday and I've been reading all the reviews and information that I can.

It sounds like the dining room breakfast is very nice. I am wondering if you are seated with the people you walk in with or if they sit people at larger tables as you come into the dining room. (Does this make sense?)

Thanks.

As you enter, they escort you to an available table. If you insist, they will put you at a table that is just big enough for your party. Otherwise, you are seated at a large table where others are already sitting or where others can be added.

I had to read this a couple of times. Maybe you worded it wrong but anyway when you walk in you are led to a table to be seated. The people coming in with you will be seated with you if you are together.

That's why I had to ask if I made sense. :p

Thank you. That is what I was trying to get at. We will be seated with others and not just at a table for the two of us. We like talking to people so it will be nice to meet others at breakfast and not just dinner.

DH and I always request a table for two for breakfast and lunch. We have not had to "insist" on a table for two and have always been accommodated with a smile.

Yes - we love meeting other folks over breakfast and lunch. It's fun because you just never know who will be at your table. I also find the food to be fresher and I eat less of it than when I go through the buffet.

We, too, like meeting others! Everyone on the ship is there to have fun--if you continually meet folks who annoy you, perhaps it's YOU and not them!

At all meals, they do try to fill a table. If you MUST have a table for just your, then they will try and accomodate.

We, too, have had to INSIST on a table for our party size at breakfast and lunch. They do it, but they make it clear they aren't happy about it. We INSIST due to too many indigestion inducing meals. Once, Mom and I were seated for breakfast at a table for 12. The other 10 people were all from one family group and all spoke Spanish to each other and ignored us. Another time, Mom and I were seated at a table for 4 for breakfast. There was a couple already at the table. It became obvious very quickly that the couple had been arguing and were now giving each other the silent treatment (and of course we got the silent treatment, too!).

So, enough. We request a table for our party size only -- and then we make sure to INSIST. Otherwise, they pretend they didn't hear and lead us to a group table anyway.

We've insisted on sitting alone (family of 4) during breakfast/lunch, and have actually had that request denied more often than not. No matter how firmly we stated that we did not want to sit at a large table, we were told that the smaller tables were not open and there were no waiters working them. On AOS, they even allowed us to walk out of the dining room rather than seat us by ourselves.

Most of the time, we prefer the larger table, especially for dinner! But at breakfast time, pre-coffee, sometimes we aren't up to socializing!

I thought the Majesty dining staff - and staff overall really - were some of the nicest and most accomodating of any ship I have been on. So I would hope and think that you will have less trouble getting a smaller table to yourselves if you want it.

You know in the "old days" people used to put on their game faces and force themselves to be social and gracious. We've lost a lot of that today, along with much of the art of conversation. Personally, I think there's something to be said for not always being so "real" :)

Not all of us enjoy the "small talk" that is required when eating with strangers, and the ONE time DH and I did try to have breakfast in the dining room (on our first Disney Magic cruise) we were given the "eye roll" when we requested a table for two so we just left. I still wish I would have gotten the name of the dining room attendant who rolled his eyes at me, so I could have noted it on the comment card. People are paying for the cruise, they should be able to have their breakfast at a small table, just for their own party, if they choose to.

DH and I always have our first breakfast of the day on our balcony, about 7:00 a.m. Pot of coffee, croissants, fresh fruit, smoked salmon. Then around 10:00 we have a second breakfast at the buffet. :)
