Majesty of the Sea

Recommended Posts

I have my first RCCL cruise booked for Oct. 06 on the MOS and have been an avid reader and contributor to CC since my first Carnival cruise 2 years ago. I scan the boards several times a day when I have a cruise booked and at least a couple or more times a week when I dont have one booked. My question on the RC boards there is very little discussion about the MOS. Is it that unpopular of a ship among CC that you dont book it. I booked it strictly for its port of calls on the week I could go. Ive been on 2 carnival ships their smallest the Celebration and the Elation. From what I gather it is closer to the Elation in size so size doesnt matter to me. I am just curious do CC cruise on this ship and if not is there a real reason. I cant imagine this being anything but a great ship and a great cruise. Some of you CC please respond.

I'm scheduled for another Majesty cruise in January. It was also our first cruise. It's plenty big. Has a great itinerary. You're not spending days "at sea" so you don't need all the extras. However, that said, it's got plenty to keep everyone busy. The crew on the Majesty is AMAZING ... never seen better. Casino, Rock Wall .... enjoy yourself!!! And you'll have a ball in Cococay!!

I love the Majesty!!! My first cruise was last October on it and I have another booked on it next May. I'll be sooo sad to see it go...

Being an older ship it's not as new and exciting as some of the newer ships and therefore not as conversation worthy I guess. I love it none the less! Enjoy!! :D

Majesty is an old girl. I travelled her once when she first came out on a 7 day western and it was fantastic. Went on her 4 years later on a 3 day cruise and boy was she showing wear and tear (that was about 5 years ago). I'm sure they've painted and changed carpets, but remember she is old! There is a reason the newer ships are popular - they are better and they are NEW.

We were on Majesty exactly a year ago. Majesty is, by today's standards, a smaller ship at RCI and doesn't have a lot of the amenities the newer/larger shps have. That doesn't make her a bad ship. She runs shorter routes, and you'll have a fine time. We did.

RCI has recently done a pretty extensive refurb on Majesty, to hear most people say. You'll find those on here who don't like Majesty at all. I believe I have heard that Majesty is coming out of the fleet at some point fairly soon. I'll trust someone to correct quickly that if it's not true, please! The cabins are notably smaller by today's standards, but there are some features we wish were fleet-wide (Compass Deli, 2 larger performance lounges in addition to the theatre, etc.)

I would encourage you to look forward to enjoying a great trip! I agree--CoCo Cay is a spectacular stop!

Thanks for all the responses. I never doubted having nothing but a good time on the ship. A cruise is a state of mind not a ship. Most true cruise lovers will tell you that the celebration was their favorite Carnival ship. And it had very few bells and whistles. I am one who could have a great time cruising on a barge with a few amenities. Anyone else on this cruise sign my meet and mingle thread, would love to meet some CC even though there arent any organized m & ms on 4 night cruises.

Someone posted they thought MJ was leaving the fleet in 2010 or 2011, after Monarch leaves. Now that she does 3/4 night runs, she's basically a party boat like Sovereign. She has a good pool band, great crew, and we loved the Seaview Cafe (its upstairs of WJ). In October you'll have Capt Bjorn Johansen as master. He's funny and friendly and crew love him because he shows them he cares about them. If the crew loves the master, you'll have a wonderful cruise!

Great ship! They spent a ton of money on a refurb last year and it shows. We did a B2B in May and loved every minute. Check my signature and you'll see that we've cruised on a wide range of vessels. Majesty is a good choice. Bon Voyage!

When we were on Her in March and she does not look old since they redid her. I am a big fan of larger ships, but found Majesty to be just fine for short trips.

This is a great ship for the size. It has a wonderful itinerary. Sometimes those newer ships are just too big. Not everyone likes BIG There is nothing wrong with the Majesty. I will be sailing on her again in Sept, and looking forward to it. OP have a great cruise and enjoy!!

DH and I are sailing on Majesty in December for the first time (4 night Bahamas). We got married on Mariner last December, and I previously sailed on Navigator. I'm not entirely sure what to expect, since my previous two cruises were both on Voyager ships, but we're really excited!

Majesty has the nicest atmosphere of all the RCCL ships I've been on- a festive feel all the time. Also you don't have to walk half a mile between places. The crew are the best, particularly the CD staff. I would sail her again tomorrow if I could only find a flight that wasn't $$$.

Nice itinerary too- only complaint is it's not long enough....

The first time I boarded the Explorer of the Seas we were sold for life to stay true to Royal Caribbean...I had not been since 1986.

After many trips around the Caribbean I was going to vomit if I had to go back to the same old ports ... and was really excited about Key West...a place we had never been.

We booked the Majesty right after its 40 MILLION dollar renovation and I was so glad to hear about it, as we usually go on ships when they are new with RCL...I knew that otherwise it would have been hard to witness.

We stayed on for three in a row...4/3/4 days...and it was so much fun. The staff all knew us by name and thought it was so funny we stayed on. Its wonderful and an unusual experience to be sitting there in Miami with the ship to yourself.

I live in Cancun so all the Caribbean ports are the same to me.

We cruise for the ships. And Majesty was fantastic.

When we went back 6 months later three different crew members remembered me by NAME! Mirko, in the gift shop even remembered which watch he sold me and a dress I was wearing...incredible people!!!

Jimmy is the best cruise director...so much fun. We had drinks with him at night. There is something so personalized about this ship that you don't get on other ships...the personalities come right out...and because its close to home and we love the ports (I was taking pictures of the BEACH at Cococay like crazy and I LIVE on a like beach!) it is so beautiful.

AND...the ship can only come in to Coco Cay half the time...so you have to stay on a few times to get it right...:)

We have booked the Majesty for 9 times in 2009. It is so much fun to not know which party is happening that night, is it the welcome back, or the have a good trip home??? Coupons and gifts and benefits galore...will keep us there in 2009 after a long complex European cruise.

Simplicity is sometimes fantastic.

We absolutely love her!

We did a B2B on her in January and will do another B2B in about 10 days. She's in great shape after a 41 million dollar refurb. Remember the room are not very big but we found the crew was fantastic. We also thought that the food was as good or better than RCL ship we have been on. There's not all the bells and whistles of the newer larger ships but that is just fine with us. ENJOY! :D

We also love the Majesty! We recently sailed on her on a B2B and had a wonderful time. I am looking at dates / prices for another cruise on the Majesty real soon. We especially loved Carol and all the staff at the Schooner Bar.

One more quick question, does MOS have a big screen tv at the pool like the newer ships
The cruise industry has a habit of eventually catching on to each others' best ideas. That's one I'm ready to have catch on with RCI ships. But to this point, I'm not aware of any RCI ship--new or old--having large screen poolside movies yet. It would be fun though!

My partner and I sailed on the Majesty back in October for an anniversary. She looks beautiful! RCI is really taking care of their older ships and it's nice to go on a ship for the second time and see a whole new interior. Hope you enjoy it!
