Cash from the Casino

Recommended Posts

A while ago there was a thread regarding a change in RC policy regarding getting cash in the casino. Anyone that has sailed lately....is there a 3% charge for getting cash from the casino? I normally don't take much cash from home and usually get a little out of the casino for a few things.

I just sailed on the Mariner of the Seas on August 3 and was able to get cash from the casino a few times with no surcharge. It was free (no extra charge that is) $ you take out is put on your sea pass account. Again, no charge for the cash in casino on Mariner.:)

Sailed on Voyager in April on a b2b and there was no fee.

However.........they really frown on this more and more. I have seen people turned away. If you must use the casino as a bank.....it helps to go in there every day and let them think you are a casino regular. I don't care one way or the other.........but just be advised it isn't necessarily as easy to get cash as it once was.........like everything else......they eventually wise up.

We were on the Radiance of the Seas on July 25th and a surcharge of 3% was added to your bill no matter how your sea pass account was set up. It is now our understanding that RCCL must pay the credit card companies a processing fee for each transaction. This makes sense, but RCCL should at least publish this charge on their website. Have fun on your cruise and don't let the surcharge deter your vacation.

We sailed the Granduer on July 24th and there was no surcharge when taking money out on my seapass. There was a sign saying the management could refuse your request for cash at their discretion, but I never had a problem taking about $200 per day. I think they limit you to $2000 a day.

I think right now it depends on the ship. There should be a sign posted at the cashier's cage if there is a charge. I was on the Explorer a week ago and the only limitation was that you had to at least take $20.

Good info......I'll be on the Explorer in less than 2 months.......but it does strike me funny about the sign..........I just can't imagine anyone going to the casino cage and taking less than $20:p .......but the sign must be there for a reason!

From what I have read on these boards it appears that the charge is confined to Radiance of the Seas and few, if any other, ships in the fleet have imposed it. I know that if there are others, someone will let us know, but so far I believe you will not have to pay this fee unless your are on the Radiance:)

And unfortunately, someone just back from Liberty reported it there, too. :(

Dear Mr. X

Thank you for your e-mail and enquiries, indeed RCCL charge 3% to withdraw

cash from the casino and 5% from the ATM machine this is fleet wide.

Have a great week-end.

Best Regards

On the Jewel 10 July 2008. While at the blackjack tables I did see a 3% surcharge posted on cash advances. And comparing apples to oranges, I cashed a lot of traveler's checks for (cash only) private excursions without problems or charges. (Obviously no credit card perks included.)

They did still have the $12 for $10 C&A Diamond slot coupons (version 11 or earlier).

I am very happy for one that they are doing this. There are people on these boards that say they take $2000 per day out for the miles and credit card perks. The rest of us pay for that because it costs the cruise lines money which in turn they have to charge us more. If you need cash, take it with you with travelers checks. I always bring whatever I plan to spend in the casinos/ports/gratuities/etc. in cash with me and put the rest on my credit card. Bravo RCCL!!!
