superdxa Posted August 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Well I'll start off by saying the ship is in incredible shape, you can hardly tell that it is a cppl years old. I have no complaints at all with the ship, not one single complaint. (complaints about passengers is another story) One thing that annoyed me was passengers with ridiculous complaints and issues for ex. a woman asked to take the photo's for free without paying because she is a single mother...(wth) Another ex. 5 min after embarkation, a couple demanded they be served in the dining room while a worker in the elevator told them the buffet is only opened at the moment. UNBELIEVEABLE Sushi buffet, people need to speed it up Its Sushi PEOPLE!!!! JUST TAKE SOME AND GO DONT STARE AT IT FOR 3 HOURS! and here is my favorite, We were on the Emerald Deck, E120,E202 to be exact, and the 2nd to last night of the cruise the couple in E220 left a candle inside their bathroom causing a small fire, The Assesment team was quick enough to put it out (no major damage to any part of the ship besides that room) Our cabin steward (Ignacio) quickly checked all the rooms for anyone near the danger and helped a little girl out of the room next to the fire. Immediately after that all the furniture inside that cabin was replaced and the rugs and walls and doors were all repainted and reinstalled. Like I said I have no complaints about the ship and staff, they were all very good and deserve better from what I have been reading on these boards. Weather was amazing, it rained for a total of 5min throughout the entire trip. Ports were great, got to Puerto Rico and Grand Turk earlier than expected thanks to Commodore Romano. During the Captains Circle Party, it was announced a woman has been on 78 cruises with a total of 1,000+ days at sea. Food was great, being from NY I even admit the pizza was addictive. Not a production show person so I didn't see any of those but went to see Sarge, Jason (the Impressionist), and James Michaels THESE ARE SHOWS YOU SHOULD NOT EVER MISS. Rockstar with Wavelength was fun to watch especially when Tate (a passenger who deserves to be signed to a record deal) came on. I guess I'm done here, Just gotta start the countdown until next summer's Caribbean Princess cruise.

SFParrtHd Posted August 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Thank you for the review. I can't believe that about the candle, are some people that stupid. Well, since it happened, I guess they are:D If you want the effect of candles, just bring some flameless candles. Glad no one was hurt and your room steward acted quickly. Rare JustinPlusLauren Posted August 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Great to hear your review, thanks for posting it! You wouldn't be chance happen to remember if they had any vegetarian sushi at the sushi bar, would you - or if anyone else knows, I'd love to know! I'm a vegetarian, I love sushi but I don't eat fish, so if they have any vegetable rolls, cucumber rolls, or anything like that, I would love to know :) thanks! babba Posted August 24, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2008 I was alos on this cruise in near proximity to the fire. To top this story off, the couple was not in the cabin during the fire but left the "Do Not disturb" sign in the door. I also enjoyed the cruise but found many unbelievable people problems too. This was our twenty-second cruise but our first with Princess. We had bad first day impressions but by the second day all was forgotton and we had a great time. When embarking we asked if any of the sit down dining rooms were opened and two employees said yes while others said no due to the hour delay. The odd thing .. the buffet was not opened either causing much confusion among the travelers. The workers were running around like chickens' without heads. Communication was strange almost as if it was everyone's first day on board. Was this the first time the ship was ever delayed? We also watched MUTS the first evening and the chair coverings, blankets and pop corn were not available the first day. the reason given ... It was the first day of the cruise. OK. I enjoyed Bert the first day. After that his material was repititious ... same songs, same jokes ... but the man had endless energy which was enjoyable to watch. Someone wanted their room changed because there were no doors on the closet. Cut-throat trivia games ... what people will do for a luggage tag ... while exchanging papers, one group took off points on a competitor's sheet for a spelling error. The pursur's line with complaints these last two days was sooooo long. No offense, but people should really keep their receipts for comparison. It is hard to believe that there are that many computer errors. I really think that many people spend more money than they care to admit. The internet service was horrendous. It was closed several times due to "problems" and when it finally opened up, it took about ten minutes just to log on. Food was great ... Sarge was a blast ... ports were fun but somewhat shortened ... Enjoyed the cruise very much. P.S. The ice cream in the dining room is to die for. Approximately five different flavors each day during both lunch and dinner. It amazed me how the line for Scoops was aways incredibly long. Not sure about the sushi ... but the vegetarian menu is excellent. Try the pumpkin rollatini. Also ask for the special vegetrian menu on the "chef's night." superdxa Posted August 24, 2008 Author #10 Share Posted August 24, 2008 There was alot of vegeterian sushi, though I do not remember exactly what specifically. I usually just throw everything on my plate and eat it all not caring what it really is. The dining room sorbet is something I will miss everyday. The pasta buffet in Cafe Caribe was amazing. Something not to miss. Casino did have some smoke free nights, which IMO should be every night. The stateroom tv's sucked just because of the poor signals but who cares, who's on a cruise to watch tv anyway? Never had a problem getting chairs on the decks, It seemed kinda empty most of the time. (Deck below entrance to Skywalkers) Basically if you want a good seat for a show, you kinda should get there about 15-20min before. They will pack out fast. Rare JustinPlusLauren Posted August 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 24, 2008 babba - thanks for responding! There is a special vegetarian menu on the chef's night? this is in the dining room, right? that's awesome! :) We have really enjoyed the food on our last cruise and always found plenty of vegetarian options, but if there is a whole special menu on one night, that's even better! Absolutely and yes in the dining room ... actually the menu is combined with the dessert menu ... the left side is the veggie menu ... the right side features the desserts. Ask for it when you are seated. There is also a vegetarian pasta dish offered each night ... they are quite good!!!
superdxa Posted August 24, 2008 Author #14 Share Posted August 24, 2008 It's amazing how some people sit at the Sarge show without cracking a smile or laughing once. Then while he's signing CD's and DVD's people are complaining to him that he was offending his workers and other people. Listen, its COMEDY...TOO MANY PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TAKE IN SOME JOKES, if you don't like it then just leave you are not forced to stay and watch him or anyone else for 9 days. BTW, I almost cried when I heard an woman say "I have no intention of going back to the buffet" on the 2nd day. The buffet is everything you will ever want and need. There is no reason to avoid it. On my 8\5 cruise not once did we encounter a problem. I found all the people to be kind, considerate, and fun to be around. No fighting, no pushing, no yelling, nothing. Everyone was really enjoying the cruise. Even the children onboard acted appropriate.
coiran Posted August 25, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 25, 2008 To the OP - Very good review - I have found the same thing on 20 plus Princess cruises - the biggest problem is not the staff or the food or the service, etc - it is the small minority if NUTSO passengers. BTW - You can get lunch in the dining room on embarkation day - it is a Princess published policy - they will try to divert you to the buffet, but you have to persist and you will get a table. babba Posted August 25, 2008 #19 Share Posted August 25, 2008 During this sailing, lunch was not availabl in the dining room on the first day. Due to the late nature of the ship coming in, only the buffet was available and not immediately. Rare Vacation Nut Posted August 25, 2008 #22 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Wow! I can't believe there was a fire on the cruise I was on. We heard the announcement while we were at a show, that an "assessment team should go to Emerald deck." Do you think the errant couple will be charged by Princess for the damage? I just cannnot believe how some people put everyone at risk.
superdxa Posted August 25, 2008 Author #23 Share Posted August 25, 2008 The crew ran up to the cabin in about 2minutes. We were trying to get to our room but they put up fire safety doors around the area of the incident. I wish I took a picture of the door before they replaced it, it was like smudged charcoal all over the front of it. I honestly believe if we were not on our way home, they would have kicked them off the ship in the next port. *Can't really comment on the shows, didn't go to production ones. NeurosurgeryNP Posted August 25, 2008 #24 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks for the review. Can't wait to sail on her again on 2 months. I can't believe that not only did someone light a candle, but leave it unattended. Thank God it did not spread or cause any injuries. I hope they charge the couple for repairs they had to do becasue of the fire.

That didn't happen to involve the women with 78 cruises, was it? Reminds me of somebody on the same cruise itinerary last year on the Crown.
