Bermuda has absolutely gorgeous beaches. Ocean swimming is my thing and would have preferred if they started the run in June rather than in August, which is towards the end of the high season. Bermuda's hot weather window is quite short for swimming opportunities. By August, ocean temperature does start to cool off a bit. Once stayed there in September and found the ocean too cold to swim in. May was also too cool for the ocean swimming. Great for golf though.

In 2011 they start the sailings in May; we just have to wait another year!

 

We stopped in Bermuda in late April last year were in the water at Horsehoe Bay. It was chilly, but no more so than the ocean here on Long Island in July. I guess it is what you're used to! I have heard that the water in September is still very warm. I just hesitate to plan a cruise to Bermuda in hurrican season.

The Bermudian Islands are one of the Best places on Earth!

 

Coming from the Greater NYC area it is wonderful. This run for a Ship (NYC) R/T to Bermuda is the most profitable of any run for passenger cruise ships.

 

Bermuda now as well is in deep discussion on having Gambling allowed aboared the Ships whilst in Port.

 

The beaches and Golf in Bermuda are some of the finest times spent by anyone. :cool:

 

 

Wishing many more ships and days spent were to and in Bermuda on Cruise Ships..for all...

I doubt that X would have pulled out of this market if it had been there most profitable run :rolleyes:

There is no docking space for an X ship in Bermuda.

 

The smallest of the X ships is the Century @ 70,000 GRT.

 

Even with that, with the current schedule NCL holds docking the Spirit and Dawn, and RCI alternating there Explorer and Grangeur at the Dockyard, there is simply no room for a ship for more than a day call.

 

Plenty of space in Hamilton and St. George though.

X did loose the Zenith a smaller ship .. which we have cruised on from here many times...;) Bermuda does need a smaller ship to dock in Hamilton and St Georges.. have you seen the CUT there? I can almost touch the edges when the Town Crier Announces the coming in...

 

 

*NOTE* Be glad your not on NCL ship they charge separate docking fees, when Bermuda only charges ONE FEE for any/all done, ...hhmm..

MOTBY an ex US Navy Base, now Port Liberty in the City of Bayonne, Hudson County, New Jersey is also going to have TWO Mega-Berths for Cruise Ships soon not just one... but no Smaller X Ships...

 

Having in Port Days too staff can be at a min. stores/shop, casino, culinary places...etc... aboard are closed..

 

The small nautical mileage from NYC to Bermuda helps keep fuel usages to a min too.

 

Here in the greater NYC are we have the most densely populated State and the only one of 50 which is now know as fully developed.. (New Jersey).

 

 

1/8th of the US population resides within a 20 mile circle of the Passenger Cruise Terminal on the North River (Most know this as the Hudson) in Mid-Town (Manhattan Island Borough Island).

 

One 1/3 of the countries wealth as well.

 

So supply of passengers with proper advertisements helps fill ships quickly... as it is also the most competitive in the World!

 

So Cruise Ship Lines have to give great services , great value and provide quality products too otherwise they loose ... ahhh competition in a Free Market System..is wonderful for us consumers/cruisers...:eek:

 

 

They do have to advertise on TV/Radio and Print ads..Bill Boards as well as so many want the eyeballs of everyone..

I think Mercury is too big for Hamilton or St George. It would probably have to dock at Kings Wharf which is busy with large NCL and Royal Caribbean Ships.

I read the release but find myself confused.

According to the Bermuda government cruise ships will no longer dock in Hamilton.

The reason is environmental, ships were churning up the bay floor and causing other concerns making the turn in the bay.

 

They just completed the expansion of the cruise pier at Kings Wharf to accept more ships.

Bermuda is a prime destination all in itself, and X has missed by not including it. I'd go back in a heartbeat if it was all about Bermuda from the Mid-Atlantic states, and I'll bet others would too.

This is where my wife and I cut our teeth - so to speak - on crusing back in the late 70's and early 80's.

Holland America had the Volendam, Veendam and Statendam all sailing to Bermuda in the summer months.

These ships were their smaller name sakes.

Each has since been retired and replaced in the HAL list of ships.

If you are asking me, at the moment I am sitting at my desk at Park 80 in Saddle Brook....you must know it....the black glass building with the big red band?

 

No home towns though....can say it's less than miles from you due east traveling on Route 4. :)
