"Goodie Bag" Given at Eurodam Brunch

I have an odd question. Anyone who went to the Mariner's Brunch on 9/1 on the Eurodam - In the hardcover book given in the "goodie bag," did anyone notice on page 112 there is a picture of people sitting in the steamer chairs? There are 2 women who appear to have a live seal sitting on their laps. It is the strangest picture. Is the seal super-imposed? Could they do that back then? Anyone else notice this?

Do you have it electronically? If so, save it to your desktop. Then go to tinypic.com. Click on browse and find the photo then click on upload. Then copy and past the url and put it here. ta da!

No, I don't have them electronically. I only have the actual book and no digital camera with which to photo it.

I only have the book, also. I looked at the picture with a magnifier - very strange! Certainly looks like live seals.

I vaguely remember flipping through the book and seeing something strange and I think it was that photo. :)

Must have been a real go-getter of a Naturalist onboard that cruise! The closest seal doesn't appear to be phased by the lady's cigarette!

If one looks at the "flippers" they are obviously stuffed seals. It's probably real seal skin stuffed and used for, Oh, I don't know maybe lap warmers?

Yes, I do believe that is what they are. Still rather strange looking, though.

Another possible use, from the way they're placed, is to keep the ladies' skirts from blowing up in the wind ... or the chilly breeze getting in.

Perhaps that is what the line used to give in a goodie bag in those cruises. Hard to find a goodie bag big enough for the seal though. :D

 

That is a funny picture. Even if it is stuffed I wouldn't want my picture taken with it. A heavy live seal would crush me. Looking at old pictures like that is always a treat isn't it. I love the old pictures of people in the formal areas too. Anything that captures the romantic periods of time grab me.
