NRL and the Pacific Sun

Last cruise DH was not a happy bunny when he missed out on his NRL. They were showing AFL but no NRL fix for him. It's not something I personally think about when on a cruise, but he sure does.

So this next cruise he is not too happy and wants to know why they don't show NRL on the ship.

Can some of you wonderfully knowledgeable ccers fill him in on why there is no NRL on the ships. Or perhaps there is an he is missing it??

Because these shows are being broadcast to an audience, they need to secure the right to screen. AFAIK, Tel$tra has the electronic rights to the broadcast. Maybe they are asking too much for permission.

Other possibility is they are trying to shed their old "Fun Ship" image, and the behaviour of NRL players after games reminds them too much of the past.

Hi Glenda,

I assume he follows the Broncos, who will hopefully lose to Storm so it might just save him the pain of watching it happen :D AFL is much more civilised i suppose :D

I know my Bulldogs in the AFL will struggle, but you just never know.

Hi Don,

Oh I am laughing! You could get in trouble here! My son Shane loves the Storm and last week when they lost Bob was so happy, Shane was so not happy.

The AFL and NRL, well, I wouldn't like to say which is the better option to follow. Being a Mexican living in NRL country my lips are sealed!

I was thinking of contacting Kylie, but then decided that perhaps she may not be able to advise. Besides I think she will be traveling with us on her waterslide fact finding tour.

But a very nice friend who is on CC is making some NRLP&O enquiries and it could all pan out fine. So fingers crossed and will let you all know after the cruise.

I don't really think that DH actually thought about football until this week when he realised oh oh, no NRL on board. Although DD swears she watched it on the PD in August in the casino? I know it wasn't showing on the PS in May as DH was an unhappy bunny then and suffering NRL withdrawals.

Hi Glenda.

Chelsea is right, it was on in the Casino. Steve watched both the AFL (avid Hawthorn supporter) and NRL while on board. He actually went down one afternoon just to watch the football only to discover when he came back to the cabin halfway through the game that it was also on the tv in the cabin, so your hubby should be fine:)

Cheryl

Was the NRL that was showing of the current round (at that time) or were they showing the previous weeks games.

Just trying to work out if the NRL grand final will be shown sometime over the course of the cruise w828 which sails on the Friday 3rd OCtober. I'm presuming it will not be a live telecast but sometime after the game would be good. Mad Sharks supporter hoping they make the GF.

Forgot to mention that we're sailing on the PD so hoping that will the telecast will still be shown

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for that, I remember Steve was really into his footy. DH is now feeling pretty pumped that it could be a possibility. Although, he said it's on the Saturday night when he should be in party mode up on deck. So we shall see, football or party :) I think somehow the football might win if it's broadcast!

The good thing is he will only have to listen to the first half, then head to the bar:D :D

Every night is party night on a cruise:) . In fact, if it wasn't for the Pacific Daily you probably wouldn't even know what day it was:p

a question for the warriors supporters - whats with all the facial hair? the whole team have either a beard or a moustache. We are thinking it is some charitable thing?

You think that's bad - you should see their backs!! :p

Have not heard of any charity event.

When asked a month or two back, one of the players was quoted that the beards were an anti-grapple tackle device, geared to work like steel wool on anyone that tackled like that.

Certainly worked against the Storm!

Hi Don,

Yes he got to watch it and really enjoyed the first 79 minutes and 20 seconds, then it was all down hill from there!

There was also another game on Friday night and he chose to socialise rather than watch and that is saying something! But this cruise certainly had a great bunch of people on board and lots of fun socialising moments were had by all!

We played sports trivia with Jenny and Karen and another person Bob knew and we came in first with another 6 groups! Then it was a tie breaker and we were not quite quick enough with the answer. Lots of fun. Karen was pretty good at those sports questions!

Hi I am new to this forum and also cruising.

Can anyone say for sure if the NRL grand final will be able to be viewed on the Pacific Dawn next weekend 5th Oct

Can't be positive but pretty sure they will show it. If it is not broadcast on TV then they will show it in the show lounge as it is the grand final.
