DRAM Posted December 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Carnival Corp. has just announced that "A refund of the fuel supplement will be made in the form of a shipboard credit for all bookings within the final payment period for departures on or after December 17, 2008." http://www.worldsleadingcruiselines.com/AboutUs/FuelSupplementUpdate.aspx Looks like we don't have to track oil prices anymore ;)

CruisenOne Posted December 4, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Can't win em' all! You are correct -- We leave on Sunday, for Sydney, to Cruise on the Diamond Dec. 12th. $ 218.00 Fuel Surcharge will apply:mad:
DrivesLikeMario Posted December 4, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Since we're not quite at the final payment date, guess that means we have $154 less to pay on our final. YES!!! ;)
bigguy6 Posted December 4, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 4, 2008 As I understand the just (today) released announcement Princess, as well as the other Carneval lines, have dropped the fuel surcharge for all cruises leaving after Dec. 17th. The old policy of refunding the fuel charge if oil stayed below $70 for a certain period is recended. If you have already paid the final payment, with the fuel charge, you will get a ship board credit. If your final payment is yet to come the surcharge should be deducted from your final payment. One caveat however: The announcement said the cruise line reserves the right to reinstate the charge if oil goes back above $70. Could others confirm that I am reading this right? DrivesLikeMario Posted December 4, 2008 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2008 As of right now, the changes have not been made to bookings. I suppose it'll take them a couple weeks to get the fuel surcharges removed from all bookings.

YES!!! ;) Since we're not at final payment and we booked the Amazon 2 years ago, we never paid it and we don't get it. :D

DanJ Posted December 4, 2008 #14 Share Posted December 4, 2008 It looks like Carnival just said to RCI" We'll see your fuel surcharge refund plan and raise you our fuel surcharge refund plan". LOL
Pia1913 Posted December 4, 2008 #15 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Bookings are horrible that's why they're doing the right thing If bookings are so horrible, why aren't they lowering the prices for Pacific Princess - March/April? Half the ship is still unbooked.
paul929207 Posted December 4, 2008 #16 Share Posted December 4, 2008 I am glad to hear this news. It appeared that we had a good chance of getting the surcharges back, but this is easier.

NevadaHiRoller Posted December 4, 2008 #23 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Why are they still charging it to new bookings after that date in 2009?
kitkat9438 Posted December 4, 2008 #24 Share Posted December 4, 2008 That's great news. I just wish it was effectively immediately since we leave on the CB Sunday December 7th. With oil prices being so low, I don't know why they made it for after December 17th. Great news for everyone else!

I will guess it's because those cruises after that date would be the first that were eligable for the refund under the old plan. ;)
