I will be in an AB Suite on the Dawn next June. Can anyone answer the following questions.

1. What does the butler do?

2. Does the queen bed in the mater bedroom separate into 2 twin beds?

3. Is there space to have a third chair put on the deck?

4. Any other comments about the suite perks?

Hi Lastingtouch,

I saw you are going on the gem with these rooms soon: Upcoming Cruises: December 2008 NCL Gem 7 day AA with connecting BB

I'll be on the Pearl with these two rooms as well. Let me know how you like it. Do you think you'll get upgraded to the Courtyard Villa? I see you've been on the Gem CV before.

I wonder if they'll offer me an upsell to the CV and how much it will be.

Thanks.

We have stayed in an AB (11020, "Jade") on the Dawn three times and have LOVE, LOVE, LOVED IT.....!!!nature-smiley-5399.gif

In case you have never seen these pictures, here is a link to Orcatek's Norwegian Star AB pictures. They are FABULOUS and an AB on the Star and an AB on the Dawn are EXACTLY THE SAME....!!! The only differences are the paintings on the walls.

To answer your questions:

1. A Butler is there to bring meals to your cabin, Whatever you would like and Whenever you would like that meal or snack. Your Butler will get DVD's that you request from the list, set your room up for a party if you have one. If you are having a problem with something in your cabin, just tell him or her. In your cabin you will also have a cordless phone that you can take with you anywhere in the ship, if you need to call him. Our girls used the cordless phone, we kept track of them that way. We could call then and they could call our cabin anytime too. I don't think we ever used it to call our Butler.

2. No, the Queen size bed does NOT seperate.

3. It is a pretty tight balcony, it fits two chaise lounges and I think one little snack table. But, maybe you could request to have the loungers removed and three regular chairs from the pool deck. That could work, I think.

4. Well, lets see....... You should have Priority Boarding, sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. When you get to the pier, you look for an NCL representative, show your boarding paperwork, say, "I am in an AB Penthouse". That SHOULD get you to the front of the line. If the rep is not keen on putting you to the front, ask to speak to the Concierge. Usually, on the Dawn we have no problems with priority boarding. But, we have had problems on the Crown and the Dream and we were in Owner Suites.....!!! (this past October on the Dream, in Boston, we were basically told, " Good for you having an Owners Suite, now get in line".....) I admit, the woman scared me, so we stood in line for almost two hour's waiting to board....:o

If YOU have ANY question's, just ask away......:)

Do you know if this is true for the Pearl also? I really hope so as I had heard that cell phones and or walkie talkies may or may not work on board. My DH likes to get up early and explore and it would be great if I could just call him when I get up. That way he wouldn't feel like he had to stick around until I got up and I could sleep in guilt free! :D

Does the couch in the sitting room open to be a bed? We are traveling with 3 women.

No it does not, it is just a little settee type of thing. The little bedroom has a sofa bed and a pull-down bunk bed, you can see it in Orcatek's pictures.

Three Women, it sounds like you will all have to take turns sleeping in the "Big" bed, fair's fair, right?......;)

I would think so.....!!!phone.gif

The Pearl is a newer ship, with a bit more "bells and whistles".... I think that on the Pearl, the Jade, the Jewel and the Gem, the AB's even have Cappuchino machines....!!!cup.gif

It works wonderfully on the Pearl. It is the same type of phone that the ships officers and butlers carry around and picks up just about anywhere. I did lose connection in the elevator once. Folks were looking at me and I heard some comments about their cell phones not working around the ship. I didn't have the heart to tell them different.

We just got off the Pearl on Sunday, and our suite had the cordless phone, in addition to the regular one by the bed. I actually got so much static on the cordless phone the two times I used it, I generally avoided it, and it never occurred to us to use it as a walkie talkie all over the ship. But the phone was definitely there (as was the Lavazza espresso/cappuccino machine that I *loved*).

We are going May 31st, the week before you. So we will be able to answer any of your last minute questions if we get computer minutes on board.

Do you or anyone know if they have internet connections in suites (AE) or is it only out in the internet cafe (not sure what they call it)?

We had the same boarding problems on Spirit last month. We had an owners suite and went to the suite checkin area and were handed a number. People were already boarding. I said, hello, we are supposed to have priority embarkation, not a number. VIP, you know.

Sent off on our way. I finally found someone that seemed a little more in charge and showed her our paperwork. OOPS. Quick stop at check in and then to VIP room for 2 minutes then escorted to room by Butler.

Keep in mind that the folks that work in the terminals are temps that don't always get detailed info on what to do. No use questioning what they do, just have them point out a supervisor and move along (after all you are blocking someone else waiting for a number ;)).

You have to keep in mind, that the people doing the check-in often aren't cruise line employees, even though they wear a NCL (or whatever cruiseline they are currently checking in) nametag. At many places they work for an outside contractor and just change into the uniforms of the cruiseline they work for that day.
