Shareholder Benefit - Disappointed

We had sent ours in a couple of weeks ago and just got an e-mail today saying our stock certificate was not current...It has to be no more than 90 days old is what they told us.....faxing it back in tomorrow for our B2B.......Dennis

I am disappointed with the handling of my request for shareholder benefit. I faxed in my request and documentation 30 days ago. I called today to check that all was okay - only to find out that they want more information. I have no problem sending in more information - and I already have. My problem is that my letter requested confirmation that the benefit had been applied...not only did they not give confirmation but they let my request sit for 30 days - would it have still been sitting there come sail date? Good thing I did the follow up!

 

Boy thats frustrating. I hope to be able to report soon that it has been resolved, and that my faith in their customer service has been restored.

Strange very strange. I sent in my confirmation of ownership, Called to confirm they had it and BINGO. DONE> the next day it was on my paperless documents.

No problems.

We were told the same 90 day guideline. That is why we may need to send another brokerage statement prior to our March cruise.

 

I'm happy to hear that they e-mailed you to let you know more information is required.

LOL -- I'd be careful, no doubt bored IRS workers peruse message boards for such information. It wouldn't be "tax free" (I'm guessing) if they knew about it. ;)

With regard to the issue of confirmation by Carnival that they processed your request for the Shareholder's Credit --- In the past I have always faxed the information in. I ALWAYS ask for confirmation - I have never heard a word from them (I provide them with a FAX #, a home phone #, a mailing address, and an e-mail address). After a few days I do call and request an updated "Guest Confirmation" to verify that it went through... so far it always has.

 

WAIT A SECOND, by posting this I TOO am indicating that I received $$$... :eek:

I think you are over thinking this. They would 1099 you if it were considered income.

Approximately 3 weeks ago I mailed a copy of my brokerage statement to Carnival. I checked my Carnival account last night and there was no credit showing. Today I emailed the statement to Kim and within two hours I had an email back showing the credit to my account. I am very impressed at how quickly they responded. :)

Not too sure about that 90 day thing - we bought the stock on Tuesday, faxed in the information yesterday, and the OBC is showing on our documents today for our cruise that leaves on Sunday. I guess it's just one onf those things - it depends on who you get on the phone.

I've always mailed/faxed a copy of the brokerage statement around the 45 days out point. Never a problem. I also always carry a copy of the statement with my other travel documents to take to the pursers desk just in case. My PVP is aware of my habits, and even asked me about it once. "I notice you are not showing the shareholder OBC - have you forgotten to send it in?"

I always just mail it in and it has always appeared on our documents when they arrived.

 

We have already gotten $100.00 in 2009 and will get another $50.00 next month. woo hoo!!!!!!!

I just wonder.... if you paid all of your onboard purchases (tips included) in cash on the last night - your account would still technically show the credit ---- would a check appear under your door the morning of debarkation???

No it wouldn't! I asked on my last cruises and was told the Shareholder is a use or loss. I had two OBC and the one could be taken as cash the last nigh but, not the shareholder

 

Other wise it is income and taxable I would guess.

I had to send in a current brokerage statement, and was told they may require an updated statement prior to our March cruise.....

 

To those that said you have never gotten confirmation, well maybe things have changed. I received my confirmation via e-mail (two seperate e-mails, one for each cruise). I also called to say thank you to the rep. that helped me out yesterday....

I had to do the same with my Princess Cruise. I waited a long while too, just because I didn't need it until I get on the ship:D

 

I just cruised in November and they never sent a confirmation even though I asked twice. Must be a hit and miss thing.

Then I would simply hit the casino on the last evening (like I'm not there already :rolleyes:) right before I went to bed... buy some chips... then cash 'em in!!! :D

I would like to know how many shares of Carnival stock do you need to have to get the credit. Also, do you have to buy the shares directly from Carnival.

 

100 shares is the magic number - anything more brings no additional credit to you.

 

You can't buy direct... you would need to set up an account (deposit some $) with a broker. There are several good online options at this point. I use Scottrade.com
