davekathy Posted February 16, 2009 #27 Share Posted February 16, 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We’ll be on the Explorer Of the Seas 15 March 2009. We will be in Barbados Sunday 22 March 2009. We have nothing planned. Since this will be our fourth time to Barbados we were going to leisurely get off the EOS and walk around Bridgetown for a little shopping. Before returning to the ship we want to stop in one of the bars and have a Banks Beer or two. Is it true most if not all the shops are closed on Sunday? What about the bars (the Bridge House)? Shopping will be limited but yes there may be a few stores open to accommodate the cruise ship people particularly if there's more than just one ship in port, that day. Don't think you'll have much luck with the bar thing, but you never know..

Sorry no pigs...but I do regularly have Monkeys in my back garden(seriously!) Here's one skipping across Mrs. Connell's roof, next door And here's another one making his way along the top of the chain link fence at the bottom of my garden. Sometimes they come to the window right here by my computer desk and stare in the window...like ...any spare bananas? .

Aplmac Posted March 22, 2009 Author #49 Share Posted March 22, 2009 (edited) ".......across Mrs. Connell's roof, next door". Any relation to Neville Connell? Yes. Neville was Director/Curator of the Barbados Museum in the 1950s and 60s.His particular interest was fancy Victorian glassware, if I'm not mistaken. Mrs. Connell next door was marr. to Col. Connell of the (then-)Barbados Regiment Col. Connell's bro. was Sydney(married to Lorna, dau. Judith) -they lived at the top of 4th. Ave.,Belleville, in a large house with tennis courts. I used to roam their two-storey house as a young boy in the mid-1950's!! .................. Neville might be another bro. He is definitely related, I've heard her speak of him. ________________ Small world. :) . Edited March 22, 2009 by aplmac
ming Posted March 22, 2009 #50 Share Posted March 22, 2009 You’re fortunate to have such a famous neighbour, Mr. aplmac. I met Mr. Connell in the early ‘60’s, he was a good friend of my father. We lived in Edinburgh at the time and went on holiday to Barbados where I was introduced to Mr. Connell and his family. I distinctly remember him giving me an after-hours tour of the museum. I also seem to remember him having something to do with the flag of Barbados (?), but the details escape me now. A fine neighbour you have, Mr. aplmac. ...And a small world, indeed.
