Sea days

What is there to do on sea days? Other then the obvious sitting by the pool. Do they have different activities?

We just had 6 days straight of sea days. We don't sit by or even use the pool. We watched the shows, played trivia, went to the dance classes, learned to fold towel animals, went to coffee talk every morning with the entertainment staff, you name it, we did it. We were never bored and would do it again in a second. We loved it!

I've only been on one cruise (sky) and we had port days everyday. This cruise I'm looking at next has 2 sea days and I was hoping there would be activities during the day. I know on port days there wasn't much going on as far as activities so I wondered how sea days worked.

Are these activities free?

Thanks. :)

Activities are free of charge except for the likes of the Martini tastings which has a small cover charge. The casino will also be open if that appeals to you but unfortunately that often involves losing money :D

There's as much or as little to do on sea days as you want. DH and I spend most of our time on our balcony reading, napping and eating:D. Depending upon the ship you can enjoy bowling, rock wall climbing (both available on newer ships). The casino will be open on sea days also (in case you're in the mood to loose money).....

Don't worry you won't be bored.......

Well I don't drink or gamble.... So most of the choices mentioned are out. I'm content reading by the pool but probably not the whole time. We are thinking of the Spirit so the bells and whistles aren't there as far as rock wall or bowling... I'm sure we'll find some stuff though!

I don't drink alcohol neither and I'm also not so much a pool or sunbathing person. But I love sea days as well. It is nice to relax after a couple of port days and even on our transatlantic crossing with 6 sea days straight I always had plenty to do. I also love to just walk around the ship, maybe discovering places I haven't been before.

Or sitting on the outside promenade, watching and listening to the sea!

Or I just get a book from the library and sit in a calm corner and enjoy the book.

There are so many things to do.

There are lots of activities, depending on the ship and destinations. Sometimes they'll have lectures about the next days ports (usually these are shopping-based, but you can also learn a bit about the city). Sometimes (like on Alaska cruises I've been on) there will be a naturalist talking about the flora and fauna of the area. On our recent cruise to Canada, there were lectures about Anne of Green Gables stories. These are all free. Then, like the others said, some "silly stuff" that can be fun -- napkin and towel folding, "tastings" of various things (for a small fee), on the Jewel there was a Wii and you could go "bowling", some folks get together and play cards or other board games (there was a room next to the library with all sorts of games you could "borrow" for free).

I spend a lot of time on the ship as I use a wheelchair and many ports are not accessible to me. I never am bored.

Sleep in, grab a selection of tasty items off the buffet and return to cabin to eat on the balcony.

Get a really good long work out in the gym. Get a massage, relax in the sauna.

Stroll the ship.

One of my favorite things to do is leisurely walk up/down each complete section of stairs and really take the time to admire the art work on each landing. Usually we are in such a hurry or don't get to certain sections that a lot of the art work is missed.

Go to the gift shops (last sea day) scope out the bargains. Usually pick up some cheap cute sunglasses and maybe some of that jewlery on a card that has the necklace/earrings. Try to find a good deal on premium perfume.

Order a snack from room service.

Take a long hot bubble bath (with cold glass of champagne!) and then take the time to really do hair/makeup etc and get all decked out for dinner out and a night of dancing with DH.

I LOVE sea days! ;)

Watch a movie in your cabin or in the theatre, take the tour of the galley or bridge, attend the romance package cake party, play Wii tennis, sit on the promenade deck and watch the ocean, have a leisurely breakfast on your balcony, take an afternoon nap out on deck, read a great book while listening to the sounds of the ocean, enjoy the mid day band playing by the pool.

:)My best sea day on Jade last summer was on a Sunday when the crew put on their own Gospel choir performance in the atrium. Next best thing was the Captain's Q&A, when he showed slides of the ship being built-he was SO proud of his ship that he even raved on about his very special anchor chains! The audience was fascinated.-jocap.

You may find that they will have Wii bowling (or boxing or baseball, etc.). They had it on my Dawn cruise and it was incredible fun! :D

I love going to ports, but sea days are my favorite because we do not have to get up at any particular time, we can eat when we want, gamble when we want, take naps when we want (you know how exhausting it is pushing that max bet button on a slot machine), etc. Sea days are really the days to relax to me. I would never want to pick a cruise where there wasn't a sea day as the last day of the cruise. To me the only exception to that is when the last day of the cruise is to GSC and to me that day also feels like a sea day.

I usually just lay around the pool area with a book and then go to the gym. Very relaxing.

That being said, to me, it seems like a waste of a vacation day to spend a full day (or multiple full days) doing that since frankly, I don't particularly like the pools on cruise ships, so I try to pick itineraries with as few sea days as possible.
