j!m Posted January 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2009 we are frequent sailors and ccl shareholders (oh well we all have a few losers these days) but we have never tried cunard. we usually travel with X,Az and, have tried princess but mainly in tahiti. we are thinking about a transatlantic on QM2 just to do it but, have a few questions for OP experienced with cunard if we go we would probably book a queens grill suite. we like some space what does this mean? can we dine where we wish or only in the queens grill? are the dining rooms open seating or traditional? will i need a suit and tie every night? are there 8 tops in all dining rooms or will we be restricted to a table for 2? (we enjoy the company of others) is it possible to have a beer and sandwich (roast beef/turkey/club) for lunch? is there a craps table in the casino? any other info for a first timer would be appreciated thanks in advance

You can dine the the Queens Grill, Kings Court or Todd English (this costs extra) are the dining rooms open seating or traditional? Open for Breakfast and Lunch, Traditional for Dinner will i need a suit and tie every night? Not for the first and last night, but you will need one for the other nights are there 8 tops in all dining rooms or will we be restricted to a table for 2? (we enjoy the company of others) Can't speak for Queen's Grill but I am sure you can have a table for 8 is it possible to have a beer and sandwich (roast beef/turkey/club) for lunch? You should be able to get this in the Golden Lion Pub is there a craps table in the casino? Sorry don't know the answer to this one

Open for Breakfast and Lunch, Traditional for Dinner In Queens Grill you have the same table for breakfast lunch and dinner. There is no first or second sitting in the QG. You can come in any time during the posted meal hours. will i need a suit and tie every night? wripro Posted January 17, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2009 I know there are 6 tops in QG, not sure about 8. You can pretty much ask to dine in Britannia or PG for one meal if you like, though not sure why you would. I would only do Todd English for lunch as it is not worth missing a dinner in QG where the food quality and service is superior.
j!m Posted January 18, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted January 18, 2009 is there anything else we might like to know that sets cunard apart from say, X or Az we have read what we can from the website and it does sound like an interesting ( and new) experience to sail transatlantic hence our interest
sw18 Posted January 18, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2009 A table for 8 in the QG means you will have a long rectangular table with 4 down each side - if you want to be sociable best go for a 6 which is round. There is normally a sandwich option on the QG lunch menu - if not you ask for it. The QG dining experience is all about you - special requests are accomodated without any fuss & the staff will show you the menus for the next day and if nothing appeals they will arrage something else. If you are in QG you won't want to dine anywhere else - I tried Todd English once & found the decor a little over the top, the portions too large & the menu uninspiring. Caviar is also available daily from the A La Carte menu.

The experience is also influenced by tradition and by the excellent seakeeping abilities of QM2 (fast and stable).
imacruizer Posted January 18, 2009 #9 Share Posted January 18, 2009 This is an excellent and very detailed review of a transatlantic crossing. Even though Pepper was not traveling in Queen's Grill, I think you will really enjoy reading this. It will give you a feel for sailing on Cunard. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=514324

imacruizer Posted January 19, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2009 Here is another excellent review. Penny was not traveling in Queen's Grill not was she on a transatlantic. However, you will thoroughly enjoy her insights into the QM2. You don't find reviews like these on other forums. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=471053 Beth
