Shows on board?

They're different. One night, you may have a comedian, the next, a big "production" show, a magic show...and it depends on the ship! Some have the ice show---that's always fun. There's usually 1 late night "adult" show (racy language, etc...) but the regular shows are fine for kids. There will usually be 2 shows--1 for each dinner seating, and both of them will be the same.

We are sailing on the same ship that we sailed on 3 years ago. I heard the shows do rotate from ship to ship. Is it possible that we will end up seeing the same shows again?

Yes..... it is VERY possible and likely. The comedians and guest entertainment may change, but the production shows will be the same.

On Mariner last May we did the behind the scenes tour of the stage area. We asked the stage manager how often they change the production shows. He said it's very rare, maybe every 5 years or so. The production shows are very complicated, with elaborate computer controlled sets, and it is expensive to change a show. The singers and dancers change every few months, but the show itself stays the same for a long time.

It is likely that you will see the same productions shows as the cost of mounting each show pretty much requires that they run for four or five years before they are changed. I believe that the shows on Jewel of the Seas were due to change sometime after we last sailed on her in November, but we had seen the same shows onboard her for at least four years. Headliners will change (sometimes from cruise to cruise) and the teams of singers and dancers will change periodically but the production shows continue for quite a while.:)

Shows are different each night. If you're traveling on a ship with an ice rink, the ice show will be repeated, but that is merely to accommodate all passengers. The entire passenger list can't fit into the arena at once. Also, one of the comedians is likely to do a "family hour" performance and also an "R-Rated" late night performance. You'd have a couple of big production number shows, performed by the ship's cast, but they won't be the same show each time.
