Just remember, Early Saver deposits are non-refundable. I don’t get it!

I have read so many threads about cruisers wanting no part of the non-refundable charge. The other night a poster said once they put a deposit down, come hell or high water they are cruising and I have to agree with them. Even if you had to cancel and move your date, what is the big deal? You know this is not your last cruise so why sweat it? Maybe I just don’t get it, but my PVP has told me she would waive any fees, so lock in that great price. Please tell me what I’m overlooking.

There are times when I may book 18 months ahead. Circumstances change in that time. I do not want to be in the position of possibly losing $500 if things prevent us from going on a cruise. Right now I have one booked for August. I got a fare during a 1 day sale that is $100pp less than the SuperSaver rate for the same cat cabin.

Well, if this works for some people, then that's just great! I'm happy for them!

I've never changed or cancelled a cruise, either. But you never know.

Too late to get any discount on my Victory cruise.

Not too late for my Miracle cruise in December, but at this point, I'm not sure my DD will even be around. She graduates in May and I have no idea what her plans are. She doesn't know what her plans are. So, since I CANNOT do a name change, why would I want Early Saver?

Oh, wait! My price is already less than the Early Saver! I originally booked an aft cabin when they were still 8C. Then, they became 8I and the price went up. THEN, the P1S sale came along, and I got the 8I for an 8A price - a savings of $200 per person. So I booked the Victory then, too, getting a 4G for a 4A price.

So, if my prices are already lower, why would I want to switch to the Early Saver and not be able to do a name change on the only cruise that I don't know my cruising mate's name?

So, you see, you aren't missing a thing. And I'm not missing a thing, either, since it doesn't work for me at this time.

But, by all means, let's have another thread about it! With the same "but I thought..." comments as have been in the others! :p

How is it you are able to get around the rules of this kind of booking and others cannot. I would like to know how I can find a PVP who will waive the rules for me too.

.....no wonder you dont get it why others are hesitant.

Keep in mind that the $50 charge is only if you stay in the same category or lower. If you upgrade, even one category, the $50 charge is waived. Obviously, in some cases, upgrading would cost you less than $50 anyway.

We booked using Early Saver, and I'm glad we did, even though we may have to change later. We saved a few hundred dollars, so we figured if we can't go, we'll take another cruise later, and even if we have to pay $100 in fees, it was worth the amount we saved.

Perhaps those of us who aren't quite so "fanatical" about cruising don't feel the same. To each their own.

If I make a choice to take a specific cruise, it is for a variety of reasons. For me, it's not just that I want to cruise and any old cruise is almost as good as any other cruise. Therefore, I want to reserve the right to cancel if I choose with not entanglements.

There are a few of us around for which Non-Refundable is an issue. And to many, it is not an issue.

I'm new at this so sorry if my question is dumb. This cruise I'm looking at is in May. If I book the early saver, can I buy travel insurance to cover any cancellations? If I don't do the early saver, is the travel insurance not necessary?

You still cant cancel after final payment. A cruse in May, you are already close to final payment, so you would still need insurance if you cancel after final paymet. (final payment date depends on how long your cruise is).

I remember you now; you are the person that has a problem with over weight people and how much they eat at the buffet! Why don't you go to this thread and explain yourself instead of being concerned when someone starts a thread.

Its an issue for me too. I cruise many lines. I have booked Cunard, RCL and Celebrity currently besides Carnival (Im booked out 6 cruises). So, it wouldnt be that easy to rebook another cruise within a year if I had to cancel.

Iv also had to cancel one of my Carnival cruises last year because my parents needed me to be home at the time my cruise was. couldnt be helped. Im not sure I want to risk $100 ($50 pp to change dates) that this wouldnt be another of those times.

Not necessary "any" cancellations. Usually reasons are sickness of yourself, traveling companion, someone in your immediate family, etc.

You can't just change your mind.

As far as travel insurance, I always buy it.

Search out the threads, there are dozens of them with hundreds of different opinions.

Never mind--I just figured it out. Non-transferable refers to transferring the credit to other people (or changing traveling companions). But we could switch to a different cruise for the $50 fee. As I'm not planning on changing husbands or children in the next 11 months, I think we'll be okay. :D

Yep...you've got it!! That is exactly how it was explained to us as well!!

Basically if you have to move your cruise date you lose 50.00 bucks a person and you must reschedule your new cruise within 12 months of your original cruise date or you lose your whole deposit. I think it’s a great deal and my Carnival PVP says he has been bombarded with calls.

If not for the early saver rate my upcoming cruise would have been a 5 day cruise instead of a 7 day cruise :D

Yeah..I've heard the same thing from our CVS. She says they have been "crazy busy"....she has even picked up several OT shifts because of the increased call volume.

It kind of suprised me....everyone is screaming about the economy and cutbacks :o. But I guess someone forgot to mention the "bad" economy to the cruise world ;)!!

I'm not sure I believe that. Sounds like typical sales lines. Or it could be true, but what are the actual booking numbers as opposed to the call volume?

Carnival has been bothering me every time I dare go to the website. It's uncanny - the exact day I visit the website I get both an email and a telephone call in which they let it ring 10+ times. I'm going to start staying logged out of the website because it is annoying.

No reason to be surprised. Iv posted copies of cruising news emails that said cruising is expected to hit record numbers and people are probably booking cruises to save money on vacation. Who would benefit from this more than Carival. Yes, they will hit record bookings this year, even without raising prices it sounds like. I know Iv looked at the land vacations to Mexico, and they still cost more than Carnival by the time I add in local shows. Carnival has shows included.

Well...I have no reason to doubt it. There would be no benefit for her using a "typical sales line" during our conversation - it was not a sales call.

I hear that all the time from sales people regardless of whether the discussion involves an attempt to make a sale to me. It is in their interest to create the impression that sales are strong regardless of whether you are interested or not.

I was going to book the Early Saver but when I called Carnival and spoke with a vacation specialist I got a better rate and a better room booking as a Past Guest! So I didn't use the early saver but I may in the future depending on the other prices I get!

My PVP had already lowered the rate on our summer cruise based on a Past Guest special. He called and offered to apply the Early Savers rate when it became available...which dropped the cost of our rooms AGAIN. That's why I LOVE that guy!:D

The truth hurts, don't it? :p

So, you like the Early Savers program and it works for you. Again, that's great.

It may work for me in the future. I know it would have in the past, but I'm about to lose my cruising buddy, so my plans are no longer going to be set in stone once I decide which cruise to book.

You're the one who started the thread. You received responses. Just because one doesn't book using the Early Saver doesn't mean that they don't "get it."
